Just finished a rewatch of s1, then watched s2 and rogue one. It really is an amazing series. There are quibbles i have here and there but they aren't worth belabouring. I love the endings for pretty much every character. Dedra, Cyril were my favorite characters and the writers refrained from giving a nauseating heroic turn, Dedra especially got the perfect ending, being mercilessly trapped by the uncaring system she helped enable. I love that even to the end they didn't start tying in too much classic star wars tropes or characters. There were no cameos, no Jedi, no classic theme music. Even the force was kept as a backstory. This distinction kept the interest on these characters and the realistic world building without losing it in the shadow of Vader et all

I remember thinking rogue one was a decent movie but watching it after andor everything is so rushed, flat and silly in comparison. Some of the acting scenes felt like a first time script reading in comparison to the performances in Andor.

The budget for Andor is incredible, i wonder what they spent their money on. Some of the sets are truly beautiful and appear to be done with practical effects, which can't have been cheap.
I had watched it for the first time not long ago because I fired up D+ for the stupid alien show.

I was pleasantly surprised. Watched both seasons and then rewatched Rogue one. I didn't care for rogue one that much, but it was at least better on a second viewing after having seen the show. I agree with your nitpick about the movie, but at least I got some backstory from the show for what the hell was going on with the characters in the film.

I really thought rogue one was mid. If it came out after the series I’d probably rank it a lot higher. Andor is fucking amazing. It’s a shame so much Disney slop spoiled the water going into the series.

Andor's showrunner is Tony Gilroy: he wrote, directed and produced "Michael Clayon" movie with George "Nespresso" Clooney. "Michael Clayton" is a movie you wouldn't skip: it's eery, gritty, brutal, machiavellian, hardboiled, some themes you'd see in Andor.

Only thing that can revive the canon star wars timeline is Tony Gilroy and the rest of the Andor team picking up the Mandoverse while decanonizing episode 7, 8, 9.

I still standby the fact they could use Ezra saving Ahsoka as a get out of jail free card and claim that changed the timeline. She stayed out of history's way until Episode 6 concluded and everything after is now undefined. Wipes the sequel trilogy out without a fuss.

I know it won't happen and even if it did Disney would fuck it up immensely, but supposing they actually did go that route they'd have a REALLY solid trio of Jedi in Ezra, Ahsoka, and Cal Kestis to build a new timeline on. Cameron Monaghan deserves some live action time.

TBH I don't really get how Andor fans (people who post in this thread) didn't like Rogue One originally or that it was just mid or meh?

To me Rogue one was the best star wars film since Empire strikes back.

In fact, upon viewing Andor and seeing what could have been, my opinion of Rogue One goes down, not up. I understand the limitations of TV vs film and all the other ways in which creative control, acting, casting etc impact the film vs the show.

My brain gets stuck in a time paradox where Rogue One would have been so much better had it been made after Andor yet of course Andor never would of existed had they not made Rogue One and forced things in there he didn't like so he made a TV show prequel to better tell the lead up to Rogue One.

The reshoot teams working on both ends of Rogue One helped keep the characters and timeline consistent but it was stuck with the pacing throughout the initial planet hopping and lack of decent spy/saboteur narrative. They were plugging in to a completed middle section by having to rotate, cut and trim.. sort of like droids accessing a dataport and spinning the three rings so everything lines up.

Quite different from Andor if it did a 2 hour episode and they had to plan what went into it. They made their theater date but overall it still needed some time to cook, everyone will rewatch the final act but the beginning and middle is not that memorable.

I thought andor was pretty mid, but this is subjectively true. Returns of the Jedi imo is a better movie, but I wouldn’t say a lot better. It’d have been good if the Ewok bs was axed. The Luke emperor Vader redemption is great though.

This edit that puts the Andor theme into the ending of Rogue One improves it, IMO

There was one reply that kind of nailed how the song changed the moment. It suddenly went from watching from Jyn's point of view, to watching it from Cassian's point of view.

Nicely edited.

Rogue one is like if they mashed the star wars movies with Andor. It has elements of both and the characters are almost intelligent.

It'd be fun if they made a season 3 of Andor that just redoes rogue one and keeps basically nothing except death star plans and Galen Urso.

the 5 minutes of Return of the Jedi that isn't fucking terrible is the opening scene where they save Han from Jabba the Hutt.

And then theres about 30 seconds where Luke returns to Yoda, Yoda is at this point less present than sleepy joe biden, is done dealing with his shit, so he just straight up dies rather than answering any more questions. Luke just assumes that means he's a Jedi Master now and goes off and remakes a New Hope with a bigger and better death star, but this time, with fucking ewoks.

the whole of Return of the Jedi is pretty shit, luke convincing Vader to turn from the dark side is some of the cringiest dialogue (worse than even the prequels "I hate sand") ever and that whole sequence with palpatine's death is completely unearned and lame as shit.

The Rogue One we got was not what was advertised on the box. 2 main issues stick out for me

1.) In the lead up, Disney and Kennedy told us to expect something different with these new anthology film projects compared to the main episodes. One of many articles at the time -
How The Star Wars Standalone Movies Will Be Different And Is Boba Fett Still Alive? - SlashFilm
Speaking with /Film the head of the House of Star Wars first explained that the anthology films “can be a wide variety of genres inside the Star Wars universe,”
Given the variation in filmmakers and their respective casts, the anthology films have “a different sensibility” than the trilogy.

2.) We had examples from the MCU as recent reminders of how it could be done. Earlier in 2016 we got Captain America Civil War, and comparisons with Winter Soldier are talked about.
Part of the reason Winter Soldier is so great, is that it was made as a Spy Genre movie first and set in the MCU second. Quote from the directors included -
SPOILERS! Captain America Directors Talk 9-11, Costume Changes and THAT Ending. |
"It was very-you know, this movie, we’ve joked that you could call this movie 3 Days of Captain America, because it owes a huge debt, creatively, to 3 Days of the Condor, structurally."

Rogue One had the unfortunate timing of being the first anthology film, weighed down with decison by committee and unable to go as far as Andor eventually would. 0 force, 0 lightsabers but still Star Wars in setting and enjoyable in ways the other movies aren't. A shame it came out when no one cares anymore. Imagine if they had lead with this style.

It figures you'd like the woke girl powah part. Oh look, You thought I was a powerful bounty hunter, but really I'm a mary sue in disguise come to save my boyfriend. Oh noes I am captured and being sexualized. Watch while I kill a giant space slug that is immune even to blaster fire with my mighty girl strength. Why don't you go back to the wicked thread before you put a woman in charge of the entire fucking rebellion.

This is the perfect community to mistake George Lucas bondage choking kink for wokism.

Meanwhile Luke Skywalker is farming aura telling to Jabba to surrender as he stands at the precipice of the Sarlacc pit.

Luke skywalker was born a girl. Always was. It's been right there in front of your face the whole time ... he and leia are twins. One of them has to be trans and only one way fits the girl power motif. Watch how he acts and you'll know what I say is true.
