I like Rogue One but I totally understand why some people don't like it, Jinn Erso is a pretty boring character and the actress severely underplayed her and she is the center of the movie. Her moments are just ludicrous, "fuck the rebellion fuck the empire I just wanna be left alone" to "rebellions are built on hope!!" 5 mins later lol
but everything around her is pretty cool and interesting as it builds out Star Wars lore, and there are neat lore nods like seeing Vader's home on mustafar for the first time I think (outside of animated stuff), the whole beach planet was cool with new AT-ATs, Jedda and the Star Destroyer was awesome, the temple of the Whills was a deep cut fan service, seeing live action Saw Gerrera was A-W-E-S-O-M-E, on and on.
CGI Tarkin and Leia are rough though.
sure that's all well and good now with hindsight and all except no.
When it came out it was the best star wars movie since The Empire Strikes Back. Hell I think I gave it a 7.5 or 8 out of 10, would have to check the thread back then.
And since it came out? Still head and shoulders better than any other star wars film, hell any star wars media, besides maybe season 1 of Mandalorian?
It wasn't until Andor came out and you realize how good it
could have been, that it gets demerits and reduced to a 6 or 6.5 out of 10.
I guess another way to put it would be, it wasn't fucking amazing so much as almost everything star wars has been complete and utter shit, and at the time it was the spark of something better being possible with the franchise.
Mando season 2+, boba fett, obi wan, ahsoka, the acolyte, Solo, not to mention the entire sequel series shit all over that hope, of course, so it stood out as a shining light of what could be. It basically put it on this holy pedestal of reverence for what "good" star wars looked like.
But then Andor came along and instantly revealed how good it
could have been had the studio not interfered and now i'm mad cus I see all the flaws in it now.
I dont understand how people didn't like Rogue one back then but now suddenly appreciate it after watching Andor when my experience is the opposite. Like yeah it has flaws we're all able to point them out. Back then I overlooked those flaws because it held promise, you didn't overlook those flaws then, thats fine. so what now is convincing you to do so and improve your opinion of the film? Like what changed? Other than the flaws are more glaringly obvious because you have andor to compare it to? Why does that make rogue one better in your eyes?
It's just my brain not being able to process it, it's not a rational thing I don't think you're going to be able to explain it to me in a way i'll understand.
