This is a smart way to do this. Not on the most valuable modes and designed as an alternative that people can choose sometimes. I bet lots of people will use this as a sometimes thing or a warmup.
Agreed. I ahven't played in months and will be rusty for the new content. Having a safe way to play before I put all my gear on the line is brilliant.

Pretty good revamp - the choices aren’t as clear cut as they were before and there are actually multiple good final skills

Even leaving aside how weak the guns are the gunplay feels bad, loot feels boring, pvp is about normal for an extraction shooter except why the fuck did i keep getting people trying to kill me if i havent attacked anyone? Is that whole 'pve/pvp behavior matching' just bullshit or what?

Anyway I'll just fire up another round of Tushonka if the extraction shooter itch gets too strong.

You can upgrade guns - r-click and select upgrade weapon. So all the grey starting shit can be upgraded up to tier 4 using pretty basic parts like metal scrap, simple gun parts, etc. Upgrading improves the weapons with stuff like boosted reload speed, ROF, etc. Like a Farro 1 vs a Farro 4 is night and day - Farro 4 you basically are shooting that thing as fast as the sniper in Saving Private Ryan on his bolt action, whereas farro 1 is slow as shit between shots.

Most of the good loot is in locked rooms or specific POI - boring is subjective, although there is a lot of "junk" which at least early on will fuel your base upgrades.

Matchmaking takes time to calibrate - free weekend probably means a lot of people are just blasting shit, so if you have zero PVE/PVP calibration, you're just going to get into matches with people looking for blood occasionally. If you want more PVE lobbies you'll pretty much just need to play some matches - loot stuff and extract early, use the "dont shoot" emote a lot when you see other players, and avoid Stella Montis at night because that place is always a shitshow - especially the med lab.

What's the current pve weapon meta these days? I'll prob play again when pve servers drop
I prefer Bettina (or anvil sometimes) + Hullcracker although HC can’t be bought from the vendor anymore and the ammo purchasing for it is limited to 90 rounds. Not a big deal, but can be annoying if you die a lot and/or don’t have the blueprint to build it or the resources
