would just get a fake tree. friend's cats either ate the sap or water and shit and puked all over the place. then had a $100 vet bill.

Cats and trees are fine, but make sure to set it up in such a way that they can't knock it over, because if they are energetic, and it sounds like your cat is, they can do that. We used to have a cat that brought a tree down, smashed all the glass ornaments, it was a mess. Now we chain it to the wall it sits next to, no possibility of it going down. But the cats we have now don't touch the tree.

yeah, cats love climbing xmas trees. be sure its well secured. and the water reservoir is sealed. tinsel can be fatal if they eat it.

Thanks for contributing bros. Think I’m gonna try a tree - kinda just want that tree smell in the house. Will skip tinsel and probably everything but lights.

Any recommendations on tree stand are preciated.

We had a hook in the ceiling we’d tie the tree to. Had a cat ride the tree down before we learned, and it destroyed most of the glass ornaments.

We started decorating the first 2’ of the bottom of the tree with pipe cleaners twisted into animals and shapes so the cats could shop for indestructible ornaments to play with and we’d just collect them every couple of days off the floor and put them back onto the tree.

Definitely cover the base of the tree where the water is with a towel or a bedsheet that you weigh down so they can’t get under it and get to the water.

Sorry, I rarely log on during the weekend.

As stated, the cat is far more likely to murder your tree, than the tree murder the cat.

If for some reason your cat has Down's, then maybe don't put one up. Otherwise, it will be fine. Just don't put any ornaments you feel like keeping intact on it.

Just saw this thread so will relate my cat/tree story.

For many years our family had real trees for Xmas. One year, our cat got really sick but we couldn’t figure out why. Eventually had to take him to the vet emergency room where they diagnosed him with DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis). He had to stay overnight and of course the vet bill was astronomical. Took him home, watched over him…..and figured out what was they cause. He was drinking from the water base the tree was placed in, where we added sugar to the water.

That was the last year we had a real tree.
