The founder/creative director's pedigree is limited to playing shit Asian grinders and the naive details of AoC's "Corruption" system have been lifted from these games, so expect it to be a fiasco.

In his defense, AoC was basically designed to be a 'better Archeage' in his mind - as he felt the design in Archeage was not in favor of his massive, zerg guild conglomerate, he took matters into his own hands. He also happened to be a millionaire living in San Diego, so naturally he swept up the talent from all local studios (basically, SOE/Daybreak/Darkpaw, PlayStation, Rockstar, and Psyonix) and made his own game. That's more than a majority of folks on these forums can claim to be able to do.

I don't anticipate the game to suck, there's some seriously talented people working on it.
Whether the game fails is dependent on if he corrected the flaws from the three games in his 'pedigree'. Archeage wasn't a flop until P2W was added, and even then some players were willing to put up with a level of P2W as long as it did not grant power. Everything from Thunderstruck trees onwards was blatantly opposite of what players expected, and it got worse as time goes on.

Also, you can't get more corrupt than national government. I cannot separate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from Ashes of Creation in my mind.
Don't get me started on Age of Conan, either.

If a group of PVE players are putting some serious time into building their settlement, then I would hope that they at least have made the effort to ally with some PVP guilds or similar. Just like any other PVP game that rides on the backs of PVE players.

Doesn't take a visionary to shoot for something more than Archeage 2.0, especially when you're independently wealthy with a crowdfunded safety net.

We're currently in Early Access for her upcoming MMO, Swords and Socialism.

Latest live session was nice. Showed an example of what to expect for a 40 man raid. It was done with 7 people, and so not to scale, but the mechanics were solid enough. I loved the fling mechanic as players got thrown off a cliff. The game looks beautiful and I was happy that the particle effects were not overwhelming. I have yet to be disappointed. This might very well be the next big online game.

Archeage meets BDO... Looks terrible like every other Korean game.

I mean that doesn't look terrible. I'd say the only things that "looked" off to me were animations. The world, mobs, spells looked fine. Usually korean or eastern games look amazing and their combat is usually very good. Its always some kind of gating/grind mechanic or monetization that ruins its long term plans. But games like BDO, Tera, BnS, Aion, AA were not even close to terrible.

We'll see how this ends up. Iirc this is the one with the guy funding/making it that had zero issue using his millions to p2w his way through AA. So you can only hope it doesn't go that route. I do tip my hat though to someone who had the means and basically did something about his gaming wishes and wants.

I dont mean graphics, anyone playing MMOs dont give a rip about graphics. Only that they are smooth.

When I say terrible I just mean terrible in the general sense. Combat is stupid looking, everything just looks like Archeage or BDO. The owner of the company is known to be a scam artist and loves pay to win. He also got super pissy when other players would constantly hammer him into the ground on Archeage.

I am at a stage where MMOs have to prove themselves before I will buy in.

I agree with last statement, mainly in the sense I have to play it before I decide.

But the above post(quoted below) is completely opposite to this post. And still doesn't make sense, when it seems your only issue is the guy making it and you somehow think it looks like AA or BDO, which I don't see at all except its a typical fantasy setting. Or how every other korean game "looked" terrible.

Archeage meets BDO... Looks terrible like every other Korean game.

What is level cap? If it's higher than 10, why is there a 40-man boss at that level?
Guessing that's more of an alpha thing than anything else. Testing more complex encounter types without needing the full level progression.

The guy(Steven Sharif) has on many occasions made it clear that there will not be a Pay to Win model associated with this game. All finance transaction will involve cosmetic effects only. Probably similar to Worlds of Warcraft. There is a monthly fee to play the game. Unlike many other projects that were kickstarted, this one actually appears to be moving along and has done nothing but show promise at this stage.

As far as not wanting to commit money to a game not out yet....I get it. I have no problem with people wanting to hold off paying a single cent to this project. The good news is, the game is funded. More money does not effect the outcome, unless something odd occurs.

This right here is what he envisions, but he seriously does not understand the typical PVE mindset.

So logically in a PVP focused game, PVE folks who like aspects of the game want to do their thing. But in PVP, there is always a winner and loser. The people who bet on the losing side, if they lose hundreds of hours of work, are just going to flat out quit just like they did in Shadowbane. People in these types of games have an extremely limited appetite for loss.

It's not a Korean game, though. Mostly ex-Daybreak/SOE folk in San Diego.

I'm not sure if that is better or worse according to this forum though.

I wouldn't say he's a scammer. He bought $60 worth of thunderstruck trees from me in the ArcheAge alpha and more from my guildies. I never heard of anyone getting scammed.

But yeah, he was a bit of a sore loser. We were on the same faction in alpha so we didn't fight his guild too much, but he seemed to think he could win in PvP by zerging harder than the opposition (which was ironic because his zerg wasn't even as big as the opposite faction's). His guild also stuck to the small time PvP events like Halcyona instead of coming out to big boy events like the Kraken.

Why are there microtransactions for cosmetics if there's a monthly subscription?

To give people like me who have disposable income, something to spend money on. Earning income and spending extra on hobbies and fun is crazy shit. That's likely why is my guess.

As the game flops you will see more micro transactions added in. This is the future and the only real way to make a massive amount of money in mmos thee days.
