This is some Bernie Madoff shit. Listing loans as revenues & then skimming off the top, assuming everything that investor said was true.

The question is was this a scheme from the beginning with no intent of ever delivering a game? Or was he hoping to just 'fake it til you make it' and actually thought it would pay off in the end? Crazy.

I have to suspect it was the later, at least at first, then he probably started to panic towards the end

Yeah probably the latter until a certain point. But like the investor guy said, he had no idea how to run a company, run basic accounting etc, had his buttboy husband as cfo. If he couldnt run quick books how on earth is he going to efficiently run a staff of a few hundred california humans. I imagine work days consisted of what we've seen on tiktok, roll in around 9, right to the office coffee bar for a snack and coffee. Work for 2 hours, then off to lunch for 90 minutes, back to the office, work for 2 hours until til 330, take a 15, start clean up, out the door at 4 to beat traffic.

I do have to say the Bard class had potential. You had to spend a lot of time setting everything up and getting the correct skills, but after that it almost played itself. A class that takes a lot of preparation and plan but easy to execute is something I hadn't seen in a while in an mmo. Whoever the designer was did a good job.

MMOs take way too much time and money to develop. I never had much hope in this game, so I can't say I'm shocked. They are a dying genre. There were really no good MMOs to get the younger generation hooked, so it's mostly just adults keeping the industry alive at this point. And they all throw their money into old relauched mmos like wow classic, eq tlp servers etc.

Even Riot, a company who should be loaded, talked about wanting to make an MMO years ago. I look now, and it seems like maybe it will still happen by 2030, but I honestly doubt it will ever materialize. None of these little kickstarter games have a chance.

Actually, since he was an ArcheAge player everyone assumed he was in it for himself, to make his dream game. But nowadays I am not so sure. You can't ever trust those MLM guys.

If reputation mattered he wouldn't have gotten a job after selling Jamba juice as a cancer cure

The discovery part is gonna be interesting, but past that it sounds like Sharif was acting the spoiled brat.. Hearing that his mom is a MLM millionaire is .. interesting.

They all were, like everyone that was involved in financing the game outside of us rubes who paid the kickstarter/bought shit on the store. I definitely didn't feel all that bad for the guy doing the podcasts, he lost 12mil, but he made it essentially scamming people.

Never bought into it, but always kept my eye on it DAoC/Shadowbane had some interesting ideas for a MMO.

Whenever they EA'd on steam I kinda figured something was going on, Sharif was always against it.

The most interesting part is hearing the stories from Archeage. Steven sounds like your typical megalomaniacal guild leader from back in the day, trying to control the entire server. One of the guys refused to leave his own guild and join his, so he called him a faggot and then kicked him from vent/teamspeak lol.
