Correct. Once you have 2 Tier 1 abilities selected then those levels for other skills just become dots. Sensor Lock seems pretty vital and is good to have on your scout-type person who can zip around and make sure that your target doesnt have a stupid number of Evasion ticks active.

I have not had many "milk runs".

Got my pilots up to all 4's and a 5 and the missions are harder, all 2.5 skull ones, nice payouts but kinda been hard for my 195 ton lance, trying to locate some more parts to get my 65's online.

I traveled back to the starting area after the first big story part on the cold planet (don't want to wreck it) because I saw it was difficulty 1-1.5. Got there and the available contracts are all 2.5 so that sucked. Reloaded.

Saved. Took the destroy pirates contract 2.5 difficulty, dropped in and engaged a lance, then another lance came right up my ass. Was a tough fight, had to reload round 4 after my panther took a PPC to the face and vaporized my tactics guy.

I keep trying to sign in to my paradox account but it wont freaking reset my password so can't get in on multiplayer.

Just got my first couple heavy mechs, Dragon and something else, looking forward to trying out some builds.

My experience of early game was spending more time waiting for healing/repairs than playing. Taking any damage whatsoever risked bankruptcy.

I'm about fifteen hours in and it is much better now that I know what I'm doing.

Oh and as someone mentioned above, the game seems to hang / stutter a lot when damage is being dealt. Lots of camera issues/clipping, too.

Nice score on the dragon, can't wait for a catapult myself.

I havent been super impressed with my Orion so far to be honest. I think I may need to respec it.

Currently got my bulwark pilot in it, and I fitted it with jump jets, max armor, and 2 M Laser, 1 L Laser and an A/C 10. I think my build kinda sucks, would be open to suggestions.

What seems to be the issue, is it taking too much damage or dot dishing out enough, not fast enough?

Not doing enough damage. I think Im just trying to have my cake and eat it too. I want it to be my tankiest mech but I also want it to do damage. I think Im just asking too much.

Edit: Ok fixed the damage issues. Dropped the A/C 10 for 3xSRM6 and its a lot better. I think the tonnage on some of the weapons is out of whack. An A/C 10 + one ammo = 13 tons and does 60 damage. 3XSRM6 + three ammo = 12 tons and has the potential to do 144 damage. If you consider +dmg on each weapon it gets even worse, 65 damage versus 180. Even had an extra ton left over for another heat sink. Seems like a pretty hefty premium to pay for the ability to do big damage to one area of the mech at longer range with the A/C 10. As this mech is my tank anyways she is usually close range so the range isnt a big deal.

Yah any brawler you plan on running in the thick of fights should be rocking as many SRM's and medium lasers as you can fit. They just shred in that medium to short range firefight. I have a wolverine that regularly destroys heavy mechs with its three SRM 6++ and one ML+.

Heavier weapons are good on your gunnery.piloting mechwarrior for the called shot to KD on a leg or trying to cockpit shot a mech you want 3x salvage from. My first heavy was an orion that I one shot with the hunchbacks AC 20.

As I'm getting deeper in to the game I can't decide if I need a second brawler or just running with two LRM platforms. I've been having a lot of luck with two trebuchets rocking LRM 15 and an LRM 10 each. They can either knock down one mech a turn or sensor lock a mech down to 0 evasion so my brawler can rip them apart. A couple of the 2 and 1/2 or three skull missions have been relatively tough though and I think having the second bruiser to alpha strike would help on just clearing out the fodder lights and mediums faster.

I'm running a LosTech Highlander, 2 Battlemasters and an Orion now. Took the Gauss rifle off the Highlander so I don't lose it and I'm using an AC/20 on it for now.

Battlemasters specced out with PPC/medium lasers/Srms and Orion is dual LRM 20's. Ripping stuff up now.

If all you want to do is change your facing, without moving to another hex, just "move" and click the dot he's in.

I mean if I move like 6 dots and I can't make my mech face a hard left or right facing. Was wondering if it's just a torso twist like in table top when your out of movement.

Yes torso twist is part of your movement allowance but I'm not sure how much it is worth. For instance you can move 1-3 hexes away and then fully face your mech in the direction you came from. However you can't use a full move and then turn around, the best you can get is presenting your left or right side.

I wish there was easier ways than just running a recorder to share certain highlights and other bits for this game. Like in a few places I'm curious what you guys specifically are doing or seeing. Like even from get go I was doing neutral spending plan +/- 0 morale and choosing max salvage most missions and no where near running out of cash, worst I think was having barely 2 months cash then doing the Argo mission gets you to like 1.2 million

A few places where I'd digress for some of yalls builds. Like for the called shots, the tactics bonus seems more worthwhile than upping gunnery almost. (5 gun 5 tactics was usually ~18% chance at legs even knocked down, going up to called shot bonus jumped me to like 38% usually is kinda critical. Looking forward to head % when I have second called shot bonus.) I'd almost say forget gunnery past a few early points because I'm always looking at 80's to 90's accuracy as long as I'm within correct ranges for weapons and either sensor locking or kicking things to drop their defensive bonuses.

I am though leaning towards heavy brawlers w/ srms' and machine guns often getting to melee to knockdown stuff then LRM'ing. I do like squeezing a ppc in as it seems more prone to 1 shot vehicles and does a good amount of stagger.

Its really just what you want your individual mechwarriors to be good at. For your heavy bruiser setup you're going to probably want max guts/piloting then gunnery because you really aren't making called shots with 4 srm launcher and 2 ML alphas. You're just going to walk up and demolish the mech in front of you regardless of called shot or not. The piloting and guts is essential for later on when you start seeing loads of SRM/LRM carries that can knock you down in one round if you don't have the extra stability marker and bonuses since you will be up in their face from time to time.

You're long range ppc/gauss carriers or LRM boats are looking to fill out Gunnery/Tactics with probably four points in guts (not sure if this is needed yet) and then the rest in piloting. So they can snipe cockpits/legs on called shots or land ninety percent of your double rack LRM launches.

Got my first heavy by headshotting (by luck) both the pirate queen and her escort in that mission. Not even with big weapons either, just srm and medium laser spam. :)

I decided not to undo any of my deaths and power through and it is really costing me. My repair budget / time spent is crazy high and the monthly financial statement reads like a horror story... oh and I seem to get and kill a red shirt every damn mission.
