Internet is just feeling dead now a days. Nobody goes to forums anymore, social media is basically just tiktok and instagram now, politicians/governments keep trying to fuck it up even more with their awful legislation and regulatory bullshit. AI and bots everywhere. There's not much hope for any real quality engagement anymore.

Don't have to tell me twice. It's no wonder I have given up on forums, any still around are simply populated by argumentative cliquish nerds with antisocial personality issues. Anything more mainstream for the masses is either people uploading photos of their best moments or full of mindless bot chatter. The internet is no longer a place for socializing with others, that's for sure.

I'm surprised by how little I miss it. Had really disintegrated by the time it shut down though, so in my mind it had already died a slow death.
I do miss some of the characters.

It's no wonder this died. The more I tried to engage with this site the more it became clear how this forum is basically just like one of those Second Life servers. If you aren't aware it's some game where people host some virtual worlds where people are supposed to just socialize and role play. Thing is it's always been notorious for the kind of absolute social outcasts who have long infested it.
The problem has always been antisocial people essentially trying to role play as fantasy versions of themselves. The type of people who do that always want everyone they come across to go along with their fantasies, and not doing so will be met with their hostility. They manage to create a cultish sort of community with other people just like them, so any normal person that shows up just gets ganged up on with hostility.
Seems like all the smaller communities on the internet have basically become this. That really shows off how the misc was sort of lightning in a bottle, one of the last remnants of an era when normal people could just post anonymously on a forum and exist as a normal person talking to other normal people who actually get out and live productive lives. This place ain't it, newmisc ain't it, and reddit definitely ain't it.
When I talk to other miscers I used to enjoy hanging out with, it seems like we have all reached a dead end in a sense. There is just nothing like the misc anymore, and I doubt there will ever be anything quite like it again.
