Baldur's gate is another game that is good on it's own, but improved with the use of some player modifications.http://www.gibberlings3.net/has some good baldur gate mods. I personally like the fix pack, the tweak pack, the spell revisions, and sword coast strategems II. Fix/Tweak pack is mostly bugfixes or convenience changes. Spell revisions overhauls the spell system to slightly nerf overpowered spells, while making useless spells have some specialized value. Sword coast strategems is a great challenge increasing mod. It improves the games AI, and buffs up enemy casters quite a bit.

As to wizardry 8, that's a great old school classic, but it gives all new meaning to "slow paced combat". I beat the entire game, but the engine the game uses can make just trash mob combat take up to 20+ minutes in the bigger battles. It really wore on my nerves by the end of the game.

+1 for New Vegas. I've been replaying it recently. Of course you have to mod the absolute piss out of it. I am quite confident in proclaiming New Vegas to be the BG2 for this decade. It really is that good.
Got any recommendations for mods?

Also, it's a little older and has some balance issues, but Arcanum is a lot of fun. Very cool steampunk vibe to the world, and it's a very big game. Lots to do.

The esm's I use

More Perks
More Traits
Afterschool Special (you can turn the schoolhouse in goodsprings into your personal house. very nicely done house mod)
Electro City
Project Nevada
oHud
Weapon mod expansion (Project Nevada overwrites most of these, I apparently just forgot to pull it out)
Mikoto Beauty (for some righteous motherfucking beards)
T6M (updated body models)
NVInteriors
NSkies URWLified (multiple versions, the author uses this one for sort of a resume project. Changes shaders around. Looks nice)
Interior Lighting Overhaul

And there's plenty of smaller 1shot mods to tweak things here and there to personal taste. Those big packs are solid.

project nevada:http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/40040//?
warzones:http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/40980/?
a world of pain:http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/38719/?
darnui:http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/113...rnified-ui-nv/

Are pretty much the big ones I'd recommend. Visual mods aren't as important in FNV because it looks like a shitty desert no matter how big the texture size is.

Project Nevada gives you implants, one of which is different visual mods. It really becomes core to your experience and makes you feel like an elite wandering soldier. The helmet hud thing can go to hell, nobody got time for that.

Warzones puts a bunch of areas in where massive amounts of dudes battle it out in a huge fight, it really creates some epic backdrops you can engage in.

a world of pain puts in some really good dungeon areas and a huge amount of content.

If you want to go nuts you can check outhttp://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/44204/?but I never used it.

EAT SHIT DEATHCLAW. YOU EAT SHIT AND DIE.
haha yeah I am playing right now and I just got cocky running through Sloan and got raped. It's definitely my favorite game of the decade for sure(or ME 1).

Planescape: Torment is my favorite RPG of all time. If you know Chris Avellone (and love him) this is one of his most well known projects. It's amazing. The story is fucking phenomenal.

I dont know. did you open the box?
i played through the first few quests and got up to the sarcophagus on the boat part, this game is pretty mediocre

the premise is pretty interesting but the quests are your typical run-of-the-mill stuff and the combat system is beyond crappy

I think you might just have terrible taste in games. Or else you're skipping over stuff.

I mean, how could you not think that Ocean House Hotel is fantastic?

Ocean House Hotel made me jump once or twice but I beat the whole thing in 10-15 minutes.

So far its the best part of the game I've seen I think, but even then it was a bit of a meh.

The new Shadowrun is pretty fun. Its RPG w/tactical turned-based combat. Very linear and straighforward, but an interesting sci-fi storyline. It's basically talk to NPCs for 20 minutes, then go do your strategic battles for an hour, then repeat, but it's solid. Plus it's what, like $20? I'd probably give it a 6 or 7 out of 10 if it were a full $50 game, as a $20 game it's easily a 7 or 8. It's worth 20 bucks.

There some good campaign on the workbench in steam so the life of the game is forever. Really nice little game

on the subject of Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II

owned both for a decade, never could get into them either.

something about controlling 6 characters in real time is simply too confusing for me at the time I guess. Should i give them another chance? i really never played or got through many PC RPGs.
First time i try it i was thinking the same but when i moved a couple of months ago i find BG2 in a box so i decide to give it another try , awesome game and with the pause button it's not a pain in the ass to deal with all the charaters. Now i understand why this game have so much success

Damnit, all this talk about Baldur's gate, now I'm going to have to install it and play it again. I get the urge about once a year

Divinity 2 is truly excellent. I think I put about a 100 hours into it. I won't spoil anything, but the second half of the game really takes off and was a blast to play.

Here is a great post detailing the best fallout new vegas mods and how to get started modding the game.

http://www.reddit.com/r/fnv/comments...best_mods_for/

I've got 200 + hours into New Vegas and it's definitely one of my top RPG in the past 10 years. The world is a lot of fun to explore and everything about the Fallout lore/story is super interesting. However at this point I've seen everything, acquired everything, done multiple play-throughs. Give me fallout 4 already!

Play a Blade Malkavian. Once you go Malkavian you never go back!
