Confuse people for the fun of it. Pick a unit of measure most people have no idea. Just to see if people are paying attention I tell them it's X rods or Varas. I could say chains but it's actually still used in some professions. My property survery was done in varas orignally.

Everybody tells me to buy a Blackstone, but why do that when you get a Coleman camp stove and just throw a cast iron griddle top on it for those rare occasions that you want to use it. Plus it's better for camping. They're tried and true.

I'm sure there are versions that probably get a hell of a lot hotter.I've always just tossed a griddle on the gas grill, and it's been fine for those rare occasions I decide to use one. They are fine if you have more than two mouths to feed. Being able to cook an entire breakfast at once on them is great. Fast cooking, too.
For two people. Meh. For bacon, I just throw bacon in a pan and on a regular grill. Eggs and pancakes on indoor flat cooker. Cleanup is thusly 10000x easier.
I have one, used it 6x, just not worth the hassle of cleaning it because we don't eat big breakfasts all that often. Probably will end up selling it for $50.
Oh yeah, it is ace for cooking real Philly Cheesesteaks.

One of these days I'll get a Weber gas or a Napoleon. I just don't have a good outdoor cooking space at our current house to keep it protected from the elements very easily, and a girl cover just doesn't do the job. If I had a big fancy smancy grill though you know damn well I'd be using it.
If I really think about best purchases, I bought an old chargrill six burner, with a side burner model from academy for 200 bucks that I made from playing Star Wars galaxies selling credits.
I had that thing for years, and this was back on the body was cast iron. Now it's all sheet steel on grills in that price range. Only reason I got rid of it was because the damn frame holding it up rusted out completely. Probably could have built something for the shell, but I don't even know if you could get replacement parts anymore, but that damn thing for the $200 I spent made a hell of a lot of great meals.

I've had a handful of other grills over the years, and this is GOAT. The Flavorizor Bars sound like marketing gimmick, but the fat drips on them and smokes whatever you are cooking. Awesome burgers and steaks. Completely blows away everything else I ever had.
I have the 2 burner. Doesn't take up much space. No cover. I've owned it in the desert, in Tornado Alley, and here in Humid Winterville. No problems with wear and tear. Only the grill plates are cast iron. Just coat them w/PAM spray for storage. Cleanup is a cinch.

That's why eventually end up getting a Weber, but the Napoleon ones are supposed to be pretty good as well. I just find that if I use a gas grill I like a little bit more real estate because of the different things that I cook on it. Also a top rack to be able to put vegetables, or if I'm going to roast chicken pieces.
Hands down though Weber can be trusted tonight crap out on you, as long as you maintain it it'll last you for years. You definitely get what you pay for. I'm so happy I got a standard kettle for 75% off from HEB after grilling season. I think I paid like $65 for it, which is probably the cost of a jumbo Joe now.
The one I had gotten free from the neighbor on our cul-de-sac because she was pitching it and it was basically unused had a side burner that was the infrared, and I love using it to grill steak and other stuff. But like most cheap sheet metal grills, they just don't hold up.

To be honest, I share your dad's fantasies. When I see one of those big ass griddles I imagine myself at a fair or a music festival or some other outdoor event cooking 20 pancakes at once for a big crowd of people. I think that would be kind of fun but I have no prospects for doing that so a giant propane griddle probably doesn't make sense for me.

2001 Dodge ram. Paid around $24,000 for it brand new. It had 24 miles on it when I got it from the dealership and 541k when I totaled it in 2021. It was still running like a top. In fact, about 2 months earlier I had the computer replaced and it was running better than the day I got it.
I kept pretty good maintenance records and over it's life I spent about 18k in maintenance not counting the oil changes I did myself. It does count tires and body work though. There were really only 2 major problems. Around 150k miles I had the tranny rebuilt because Dodge used some plastic parts that wore out. And around 460k miles a check engine light came on that meant nothing. The dealer told me it was a timer in the ECU that did nothing but throw the light and it couldn't be reset. But because I had to have that light off to pass inspection I had to replace the CPU. After the replacement it ran like shit. I kept telling them they gave me the wrong computer but they kept saying if it was the wrong computer it wouldn't have started. It was like that for 5 years before I finally took it to a electrical specialist who said yeah that's the wrong computer and put in a new one. 2 months later and boom.
I'll think of more good buys but I think that's gonna be my top end considering a new truck today would cost 50k and be lucky to last half as many miles.

Reminds me of a hunting buddy who bought a used s10 pickup for $200. He ran of for years. He hauled a bus to the hunting camp with it. He ran it wide open in the fields chasing after dogs. All with almost no maintenance. He basically ran it like he hated it. He often said "if this motherfucker dies right here, I'll get my cb out and leave it in the woods, I got my money out of it".
