Yeah brain is good, back at it. Epic digging last few weeks just myself and one other mostly until today. Had wall built and stacked with shitty dirt but then it flooded and washed out so we restacked it good heavy black clay but it collapsed the wall :( ah well we got a shelf now to rebuild it with just dirt this time. The test landing was made proper and can’t wait to try it.

I've had 7 concussions so far, 3 from riding. I've broken 4 ff helmets in 12 years. 2 were fox proframes .. Too light for real dh riding but great as a enduro lid.
Jumps and been look great, I need to go dig some pirate trails

Yeah full face for DH is a must, if you looking for something different the Troy Lee stage helmets are really good as well.

Long shot but doing an Austin trip to Tejano(where I smashed my face)this Saturday and then Graveyard in San Antonio Sunday. Anyone here in the area? Should be a blast.

Moved enough dirt to mellow out a 22 foot wide landing on the pro line. Three of us went hard from 4-10PM and got it stacked and smoothed for packing.

Fall weather is finally here for my second true year of mountain biking! Woke up to a brisk 60 degrees and shredded 6 miles this morning with a coworker, it felt great as opposed to being a sweaty fuck 1/4 mile in and gassing out shortly after. I bought this bike last year and what a game changer it has been after riding on a regular basis. It's helped me lose a bit of weight - currently 6'3 220lbs - get outside and have fun in the woods and I've noticed remarkable changes in my cardio.

HOWEVER, despite the riding being great and all I'm really starting to notice opportunities with my current bike. This is a barebone stock Specialized Rockhopper I bought from a local bike shop, and while initially I loved it for the value I'm struggling with what upgrades to do to it, or if it's a better route to just buy a better bike all together? This morning when downshifting I noticed it would occasionally drop 2 gears as opposed to 1. There's also an audible "clicking" for lack of better term on my chain when there is a lot of tension on it, almost like the damn thing is going to snap. One of the loops off of this trail was also pretty damp and I was struggling with my shoes sliding off the pedals.

FOH biking pros what are your thoughts? Is it worth investing money into various upgrades, or should I start looking at a better bike all together? I like the hardtail but see the value in a dual-suspension setup. Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Sounds like it needs a new shifter cable, they stretch over time.
The clicking noise is the chain rubbing against the next gear on the cassette.
Get it serviced and it will be good again.
As for shoes, that's a big long subject.
I like flat peddles with angry studs and flat shoes. Lots of different brands and models. 5.10's were the best but sold out to Adidas .. RC is a new brand that some old 5.10 guys started. Good shoes so far for me.
Lots of people will say you should clip in.
That's not for me ..

Vasgaroth Vasgaroth only upgrade if you out grown it, as in want to do gnarlier stuff and need a bike with a front shock that can handle it. RC is the way to go for shoes now, going though 5-10s about a pair a season currently.

I did upgrade the wifes bike because it made sense to do so as she isn’t into gnarly trails.

Did some more tweaks and slapping it in the past few days, smoother and faster now. Still can’t wait for the berm to get bigger so we can make the whole line faster. Winter is coming and can’t wait, so tired of these 90+ days. Also helping local BMX shop redo the area next door he bought out, turning it into a mini bike park. Going to be great to ride around in the A/C next summer.

BMX shop was a disaster, dude would get hammered drunk and treat everyone like shit. People that have known hin for 20+ years told him to go fuck himself and bailed. We were all stoked to help too. The “halloween jam” had like 4 people show up and soon after the fire marshal came by and told him all this shit has to go. He then called out his life long friends for calling the marshal on him(which no one did)and dug his grave even more. Sad times.

So we all started digging in the woods again and made some alternate lines and general got everything running perfectly.
