So a new Stronghold with no new loot? Just a different way to earn the shit you already have?

Why?

They did finally add:

  • Added the ability to select contracts from the start of expedition screen rather than going to the individual contract boards in Fort Tarsis or in the Launch Bay.
  • Added the ability to launch a new mission from the end of expedition screen without having to return to Fort Tarsis or the Launch Bay.
  • Added the ability to access the Forge during Missions, Strongholds and Freeplay. You can now change your gear without having to return to Fort Tarsis or the Launch Bay!

Not sure if new loot is dropping in the new stronghold or not people just got in a bit ago so I don't know if that will be clear for a bit until they can run it a few times and loot stuff.

They also made friendly javelins not cock block your ults and abilities which is a nice change.

That is nice. Was so freaking annoying to toss a fireball and have it explode off the back of some retard interceptor who spazzily ran around.

Lots of great changes. Going to take a bit more than that though. Game needs a full DLC or something at a cost to the Dev. Just run out of stuff to do too quickly. Have no desire to max out your light level.. er .. gear score.

Their whole 90-day calendar update was laugh-worthy. Nothing but a few paragraphs of broken promises. My favorite snippet:

"While we have delivered many of the Act 1 features on time..."

But...

Features delayed:
  • Mastery System
  • Guilds
  • Legendary Missions – Phase II
  • Weekly Stronghold Challenge
  • Leaderboards
  • Some Freeplay Events
  • Cataclysm

Here is an update from Ben (Lead Producer) & Chad (Head of Live Services) on the Act 1 90 day calendar.
________________

Hey Everyone,

It’s been 10 weeks since the early access release of Anthem. While we have been quiet publicly, we have been hard at work in the background and we wanted to provide an update on the state of the game.

The Past 10 Weeks
We have learned a lot since the game went live. We have heard a lot of feedback from all of you, and we have been working diligently to improve as many things as we can in the short term.
We’ve fixed a lot of bugs and made changes which we believe begin to point us in the right direction for the future. That being said, we know there is a long way to go before Anthem becomes the game we all want it to be. So where are we at today…

Game Update 1.1.0
Game Update 1.1.0 went live today and includes some new content and improvements to the game:
  • A new Stronghold called “The Sunken Cell”
  • Access to the Forge anywhere in the world
  • Ability to launch a new expedition from the end of expedition menu without loading into Fort Tarsis
  • Access to contracts without having to run around and pick them up
There are a bunch of additional fixes and improvements – the patch notes for Game Update 1.1.0 can be found here.
There is also a livestream later today where we will show you the Sunken Cell Stronghold and some of the other improvements in Game Update 1.1.0

Act 1 Calendar
While we have delivered many of the Act 1 features on time, we are not going to hit all the goals on our Act 1 Calendar.
We have been prioritizing things like bug fixes, stability and game flow over the new features of Act 1. We set aside time for this work, but the reality is there are more things to fix and improve than we planned for. While this is the best thing to do for the game, it means some items from the calendar will be delayed.

Features delayed:
  • Mastery System
  • Guilds
  • Legendary Missions – Phase II
  • Weekly Stronghold Challenge
  • Leaderboards
  • Some Freeplay Events
  • Cataclysm
We want to make sure everything we add to the game has a purpose and fits with our long term goals. When we have information to share on the items above, we will do so.

Cataclysm
The Cataclysm is an important addition to the game and it’s currently a big focus for the team. The Cataclysm will bring new challenges and rewards and pushes the story of Anthem forward. As our work continues, we will share more with you in May.

Loot
We have heard your concerns around end game loot. We agree that our loot and progression systems need to be improved and we are working towards this. When we have more information to share, we will.

Communication
A lesson we have learned is we have been talking about things too early. There are so many factors that can cause us to pivot on our plans – whether it’s bugs & stability issues, player feedback, or complications with a feature that require us to take more time to deliver it. Our goal is to tell you about new content and features once the work is closer to being done.
At the same time, we want to provide more ways to get your feedback and for you to tell us what you think is fun (or not fun). To facilitate this we plan to introduce a Player Feedback Environment (PFE), an opportunity to get your feedback before we go live with major features (in the short term for PC only).

Closing
We know you have been waiting for these updates, and that you might not be pleased with where we are today. We understand and respect these perspectives.
The only thing we can say is this – We Believe in Anthem. We believe the game will be great, but we recognize getting there will take a lot of hard work. We want to do that work and we want you all to join us on the journey to get there.
Thanks for taking the time to read this update.

Ben and Chad

So is there any part of Act One that actually happened? Fixing bugs doesn't count as 'content'

Legendary Missions & Contracts I believe... That is it. So two things that are essentially part of the game as-is. Hell, the Legendary Missions have every cutscene still intact.

I tried the Sunken Stronghold. Was insanely easy even the first time through on GM1. The primary puzzles were all recycled from earlier missions and the enemies were not terribly engaging. What is worse is that it just had the same boring loot that is completely worthless to me at this point despite having not played for weeks.

Yeah this game desperately needs a Destiny like "forsaken" or "The Taken King" add on and relaunch that goes along with it. Untill then let them plug along fixing shit and making quality of life changes. Like I said it will take a solid year to fix and add enough shit to this game for it to be worthwhile.

Still im looking forward to it. The gameplay is good. Compare the game play of this game vs Division 2, and ill take this one all day long. Its just that, yeah, everything is still broken and not enough content.

A marriage between division 2 content and Anthem gameplay with someone that knows how to make a compelling end game would be the one that knocks it out of the park.

So that will never happen since common fucking sense on these people is lost in whatever world they live in.

I kinda feel cheated not having to really level up other javelins. Does that make sense? That or character progression that encourages (perhaps not requires) the use of the different javelins.

Not to say that anthem is som bastion of content or anything but Div 2 content is literally all the samey. Go to some place, house, warehouse, or whatever, and shoot bullet spongy enemies down corridors until you win while you hide behind a crate of some kind. Granted there is a shit ton of this sort of content, but meh. The enemies are all the same, and there is no power fantasy there at all. Youre just another dude with a AR or LMG. Their gear is a mess too. Too many perks and stats to roll on single item, meaning you need to win lotto to get a solid piece to drop. That game needs a lot of work too IMO. Im actually fascinated what their raid is gonna be, if they jsut use the same old enemies they have everywhere else. More bigger bullet spongy dudes hiding behind a foot of armor? Honestly what that game needs is some "zombie" infestation or some shit so they can introduce some unique cthulu type enemies into the game. Yeah, but that wont ever happen because it just does not fit within the entire "Tom Clancy" thing.
