She is clearly the more experienced of the two for heading up a game studio. She was in charge of a game studio with multiple recent successful releases that merged into Blizzard and then delivered the well done D2 remaster (the queue issue it has was... Battle.net... who was in charge of that again lol?).

Mike Ybarra is an Ion style internal promotion to level of incompetence guy who was in charge of the Battle.net tech guys. No experience dealing with creatives at all.

Now if you want to say that she is an empty suit who contributed nothing other than her race/gender, I'm all for hearing about it. But you need some sort of factual basis for saying that, which nobody has provided.

Credentials don't even have anything to do with it. Lots of top C-Suite at major companies have only undergrad degrees.

I think the message between the lines at the time was that after Morhaime stepping down Brack wasn't even regarded as "C-level" executive, hence he was named "president" and not CEO like Morhaime was.

If it's really true that O'neal and Ybarra did not get a pay rise when they were appointed as new "leadership", plus the fact that Ybarra has been longer at Blizzard and getting paid more thant O'neal: This is very likely just Bobby trying to promote someone to leadership just for optics (internal and external), but not wanting to give them money or any real control.

It totally sounds like Ybarra has nothing to say within Blizzard, except to collect those weekly/monthly reports to Bobby on where the money is going. All the other time he is probably just sending out orders on behalf of Bobby, like Fran Townsend has.

From the articles it says that they both went into the co-lead roles with their current salaries from their previous positions. Mike was making more at his job than Jen was, both of them lobbied upper management to give them the same pay, and it was denied. Jen put in her resignation and then they offered her equal pay, but she's still leaving.

Regardless of the facts, the optics are terrible on this. "muh diversity Blizzard", promote a woman to be co-lead and pay her less than her male counterpart, no ones going to read past that.

If this is the case, it sounds like she knew her value (as THE female face of the company, promoted to try to calm the shitstorm), went in to negotiate a higher salary, and they flat out said no to anything. She called their bluff and whom ever decided not to play ball is now eating shit. She comes out of it with positive public support and her next job will probably pay huge dividends on this gamble.

She had them over a barrel, and it would be a bit surprising if she didn't ask for some huge bump, far exceeding the other dude's pay, to start the negotiations.

That is the only part of the angle that makes sense. Her initial comp was on her but due to the public facing shenanigans she had leverage for a salary bump. However justified or unjustified it may have been.

However, and this applies to any job, try asking for a 20%+ raise. 99% of the time they will tell you to go fuck yourself but would have no problem hiring someone from outside at the rate you are looking to get promoted to. That's just the way the world works. Whoever she argued with probably just looked at the finances (almost nobody gets 20% raises anywhere) and said no. Without taking into account any of the public outcry she could have made for the company.

It's a joke, but it's also not the absolute worst idea. They could publicly put out a range instead of the exact amount and I wouldn't be too upset by it. Yes, Fortune 500 companies are going to have an insanely higher range than your local tire shop. Big deal. It still wouldn't fix the issues these mouth-breathing shitlibs are complaining about because no where in their small little brains have they had to deal with multi-billion dollar executive position interviews and salary negotiations.
