I've been waiting for my buddy to progress further in the game and so have played all four hunters to ~level 10 in the first 'zone'. There is an impressive amount of content including periodically changing missions, random spawning mini bosses, side quests and the like.

It definitely has a stronger feel of 'wander around and find shit' than BL3 did. In fact it's most similar to the very first game, which feels intentional as this is a soft reboot of the franchise.

Have a 5070Ti and had decent frame rates even before turning on DLSS and am now hovering around 150 fps. Very smooth and also pretty.

My only significant complaint is with the inventory system. The original had one of the most elegant inventory management systems ever, which is why it was replicated for every other game in the series. The new one is clunky in comparison and the filter settings don't persist so it defaults to Manufacturer each time you open the backpack.

Nevertheless it's a fun game and I feel I got my money's worth.

I’ve been saving rhinohelix rhinohelix all night in this game!
One might think I bought Borderlands 4 to play the game; I actually purchased the Super Deluxe Edition to improve Ut's self-image.

Game once you get through the tutorial is great; I wish there was a way to progress the entire party's world state, rather than just the hosts. Ut and I had a great time! I heard that it was hard on setups, so I left mine on very high and just turned down some shadow stuff, and my 9070xt/9800X3d with framegen on stayed in the 130-150 range all night.

Per Qhue, inventory does suck, and a number of the UI features at least on PC took too long for me to figure out. I don't know if that was just me getting used to the items/weapons/interface or what.

Side quests were really cool, writing seemed good so far; we stopped at about level 10 when you unlock the 2nd fast travel point. Hope to see more people today when we get back on!

I carried him. He would still be level 3 without my old ass gaming might!

Getting the three amulets was okay, the last 25% of the game creativity left the building. But thank god for strong powerful women. BL3/BL2 >BL4.

performance woes for me. shame because it is fun when plays well. I've dealt with this on nearly every game that leverages UE5. Not sure if it's me or the engine - significant stuttering/hitching. In the case of borderlands 4, it'll run butter smooth for about 15-20mins with everything on High at 5120x2160 in the open world, and without fail will start hitching non-stop making combat unplayable. Memory leak of some sort. Was never fixed on Jedi Survivor either. hoping these guys dont bail on optimization like Respawn did.

Do you have your 7950X3D set up correctly? I have 4070ti, 7950X3D, 65 GB DDR5. No hitching at 4k.

Isn't there a setting where you have to lock/force the game process onto the cores with the vcache?

Edit: Here is a reddit thread talking about Project Lasso, core affinity, PBO, etc.:

It’s a fun game. It’s too bad performance is ass.

Zindan what are your PC specs? Huge difference between 2k and 4K performance looks like as well.
5070ti, 7800x3d, 32g, 2tb nv.

Frame Gen is doing a lot of heavy lifting, fyi. Keeping the settings at Badass/max'd, DLAA, and with FG off saw the fps tank to 40-50. Using the nvidia App to "optimize" the game puts the settings like this: 300+ fps

nvapp.jpg

I can push all the High/Mediums to max with DLAA and the fps stays @140. Note, during play GPU is at 95-98% and CPU is rarely over 35%.

There is a setting somewhere that basically tells the game how much to stream in textures so you don't see as much pop in, with it set to max you'll see the game start to stutter, while if set lower you'll see more pop in, but less stutter.

Only level 15 now, but so far A+ game. Been upgrading SDU as a focus for now. Found a side event and fought 3 bosses at once...mobility check through and through. Def need alt fire SDU upgrades :D

Everything vastly better than BL3 and the last Tiny Tina thing which I don't think I even finished.

Def going to take my time on this one...fuck all else to play, anyway.

Yeah I let the Nvidia optimize the game and went up to ~230 ish. Still in the first zone and the weather effects + day/night cycle really makes the game pop. Got a legendary weapon from a random boss encounter and it's genuinely legendary worthy with a suitably funky effect.

So far I think Rafa is my favorite vault hunter in terms of action skill, but I've not tried them all as there doesn't seem to be a respect method at the point I am at in the game.

I hardly played 3 because I really disliked characters / story, but I remember in 2 that it had somewhat of a ... messy? quest system.

If you tried to do "everything" on the first run, you outleveled every reward / loot, so no exp and garbage loot for everything, and you couldn't do side quests and such again, so the best way to do it would be to rush the main game, then level up to max and then new game + a run on max level since then all loot would scale up. It's been years and years, but think that was the way it worked.

How does the world mechanic work in this? Preferably I would like to just take my time and do everything in one run. But would you hit max level then (is it 50?) long before the end and outlevel every quest reward?

EDIT: Played for 2 hours, and on my 4090 with a 13900 processor on 4k I get 55-60ish FPS with DLSS, 90-95 FPS with frame gen. I have the updated drivers, but don't have the nvidia app. Considering the amount of complaints on optimization I assume they are in full optimization mode (which they should have been before release). Hopefully patch soon. Got the deluxe edition. Not getting the Super edition since I highly doubt I would replay the game just because of another character. Would rather get expansive DLC/expansions like in 2.

I get about 90FPS on my 9070XTwith the AMD frame gen on. No lag, no stutters and not one crash. Good game so far, bought it this afternoon, played until like lv9 just exploring shit in noobtown. I will add that performance should be better. This is the new crysis?

I need more notice for these drunken gaming nights! I would have played vids instead of Pool. It's been too long since I have gamed with my FoH boys.

Performance isn't terrible, as long as you use upscaling. This is one of the first games where upscale is required. Given the art style you don't take too much of a visual hit.

I know some are seeing hitching, but I have seen zero at 1440 UW, on a Ryzen7 9700X, Radeon RX 9070 16GB, and 32GB RAM. Also zero crashes.

Crazy that even a 5090 system can't do native resolution at acceptable FPS and still needs upscale.
