I do want to play around with the dark shades and colors, including backgrounds, I can see what you're saying. Yes, I have more of my ex but I don't have release forms/contracts for anyone else.
Spend your money on books and creativelive/other online classes (that are on sale). Don't fall for gear acquisition syndrome.. Your creativity will always be the first thing to work on before buying that sexy new camera or new piece of sharp sharp glass.

BoozeCube BoozeCube I'm not asking anyone to help me win a contest, besides it's more a photography discussion at this point.

I appreciate your concern for the rule you're referring to.

I'm not a pro on boudoir but I will say, try to hit those curves and poses with your models to draw the viewers eyes. Like that pic with your ex-wife, my eye isn't really drawn anywhere.

You're on a good start.

Foler Foler I've been binge watching McKinnon on YouTube. His videos and work are awesome and little tricks he does for his professional shots and even B-rolls. I've been reading up on books I've acquired through Amazon and there a few courses online I'm interested in and will be pulling the trigger on here soon.

At this point it's practice, practice, practice for me and when I don't have a person in front of me I'm doing shoots of my dogs playing and close ups on whatever I think looks good and trying new angles, filters, playing around with Manual mode more, AV mode and video as well.

Yeah dude you're on the right track. Keep playing around, experimenting, pushing your creativity, practicing, seeking critiques, etc.

If you don't want to use your name, use something that evokes the type of photography you do perhaps. So if you do pin-up or boudoir mostly, maybe something along those lines? Like Discreet Lens Photography or whatever. Although names along those lines work better if your intent is to focus on specific content mostly vs. general shit like vanilla portraits or w/e.

Also I'd absolutely brand yourself around your name. In that world your name is your brand.

I've been seriously avoiding using my name as the name of the business.

How bad is your name??

I used to fuck this photographer about a year ago. She was a hot blonde, but her photography was so shit. She would just wash out / lighten up every pic and she thought it was so good. Lol. But she would make extra money doing the retarded shit like easter bunny photoshoots.

Why? How serious are you about this? If you're very serious then use your name. If it's a part time side business then don't.

Most serious photography businesses will usually use their name (full or last name). I've also seen some use different names depending on the content. They'll use their name for the main stream stuff (weddings, portraits, events), then have a named brand for the stuff they don't want to associate with their mainstream business (fetish, bondage, nude, etc). Some don't give a fuck and just use the same for both. Name based businesses do make referrals easier, though. Good referrals from people who shoot with you helps in securing additional models/photography subjects.

Unless your last name is Stalin or Hitler or something that is SUPER common (aka John Smith) or 100% not a good name for a photo business, that's always the safest bet (although it doesn't make yo u stand out, see my previous suggestion)

I'm very serious about it and it's pretty stupid. My last name is pronounced "Whirly" but spelled different. I personally hate it but I may just have to end up doing it. As mentioned above, most successful photographers are known by their name.

Cybsled Cybsled Now... Jesus... I never thought of that. Doing the SFW stuff under my name and the NSFW under a studio name... 🤔

Great advice! Thanks for that.
