As for punishing people for bad reporting, we just had this entire shitstorm because a demonstrably bad poster got punished. You really think punishing someone for bad reporting is going to lead to a more rational response? Come now.

What is "bad reporting". It seems very subjective. We are having this discussion because a moderator thought a user was "bad posting" so you obviously don't trust his judgement on that but you will trust him to punish people for reporting?

If there is no consequence to habitual reporting of people you disagree with then what's the point? How about 10 reports from people that haven't used the report button in the past week for anything else?

Also, if there are 10 legit reports from people that aren't habitual report fiends perhaps you could, ya know, include that fucking information in the thread ban or warning you give a poster and perhaps people could accept the decision.

Reporting just enforces the majority side any way you do it, all else being equal. There's no fixing it unless you can find some super principled mod-kings.
