It's not tie ins to where you finish, it's each bowl in the list gets to pick. There's no rule that states the #1 pick has to take any team other than one that is bow eligible. Last year the SEC comissioner lobbied the Capital One and Chicken bowl to exchange picks and that's how LSU and A&M changed places and A&M went to a higher bowl than LSU even tho they finished behind us.It's way too early to tell in the SEC, picking order outside of the national championship game goes:
Sugar
Capitol One
Cotton
Outback
Chick-Fil-A
Gator
And then a few more no one cares about.
From what I understand, bowl picking doesn't go *strictly* in order of finish in the conference, teams can slide up or down 1 spot when the bowl picks. So the 2nd place team could go as high as the Sugar Bowl, or as low as the Cotton Bowl. Heres some predictions heading into this week:
SEC football bowl projections: Week 13 - ESPN
The big clusterfuck will be if Missouri loses to A&M and Auburn loses to Bama, then you end up with 3 2-loss teams, SC, Missouri, and Auburn. One of them could fall as low as the Outback bowl(which the link above is assuming will be Missouri)
But basically, Alabama, Auburn, Missouri, South Carolina have the top 3-4 bowls tied up(depending on if one of them goes to the national title game or not). Outside of that, teams have 3 losses or worse.
It's a lock as of now that LSU will play Baylor in the Cotton however due to a number of things like where LSU is going to finish in the SEC west which is already set at 3rd. The cotton will never pick a team out of the east is they can take a team out of the west that travels well.
The picks you linked are from a week ago. Here are the ones from this week.

I think the Chicken bowl people would have to be paid to take LSU again. There's NO desire for LSU fans to travel to Atlanta again. When you add in the chicken classic at the start of the season, the SEC championship and the Chicken bowl LSU has travelled to Atlanta 6 times in the last 5 years and fans aren't excited about it and that's why we didnt' even sell our seats last year.
