It's way too early to tell in the SEC, picking order outside of the national championship game goes:
Sugar
Capitol One
Cotton
Outback
Chick-Fil-A
Gator
And then a few more no one cares about.

From what I understand, bowl picking doesn't go *strictly* in order of finish in the conference, teams can slide up or down 1 spot when the bowl picks. So the 2nd place team could go as high as the Sugar Bowl, or as low as the Cotton Bowl. Heres some predictions heading into this week:

SEC football bowl projections: Week 13 - ESPN

The big clusterfuck will be if Missouri loses to A&M and Auburn loses to Bama, then you end up with 3 2-loss teams, SC, Missouri, and Auburn. One of them could fall as low as the Outback bowl(which the link above is assuming will be Missouri)

But basically, Alabama, Auburn, Missouri, South Carolina have the top 3-4 bowls tied up(depending on if one of them goes to the national title game or not). Outside of that, teams have 3 losses or worse.
It's not tie ins to where you finish, it's each bowl in the list gets to pick. There's no rule that states the #1 pick has to take any team other than one that is bow eligible. Last year the SEC comissioner lobbied the Capital One and Chicken bowl to exchange picks and that's how LSU and A&M changed places and A&M went to a higher bowl than LSU even tho they finished behind us.

It's a lock as of now that LSU will play Baylor in the Cotton however due to a number of things like where LSU is going to finish in the SEC west which is already set at 3rd. The cotton will never pick a team out of the east is they can take a team out of the west that travels well.

The picks you linked are from a week ago. Here are the ones from this week.

NCAA College Football BCS Bowl Projections Week 13 - ESPN

I think the Chicken bowl people would have to be paid to take LSU again. There's NO desire for LSU fans to travel to Atlanta again. When you add in the chicken classic at the start of the season, the SEC championship and the Chicken bowl LSU has travelled to Atlanta 6 times in the last 5 years and fans aren't excited about it and that's why we didnt' even sell our seats last year.

Seeing several reports that Sumlin is getting an extension at A&M. Let the silly season begin.

Its both. Yes, the bowls pick what team they want, but if they go out of order of finish, they can only reach down to take a team that is 1 game worse than who should be slotted in their spot.

i.e. The Cotton bowl could reach down to take a 3 loss LSU or A&M team over a 2-loss Missouri or South Carolina, but they couldn't reach all the way down to take a 4-loss team.

I'm interested to see what happens to Missouri if they take a 2nd loss in the SEC title game, or South Carolina if they take a 3rd loss in the SEC title game, and how far they fall down the bowl pecking order. Sometimes those championship games can hurt when you take an extra loss because of it. (See Mizzou 2007, #1 team in the country going into the B12 title game, lose it, and don't even get a BCS bowl game)

Worst-case scenario for the SEC would be Bama losing today, then Mizzou winning the SEC championship game over Auburn. That virtually guarantees no SEC team in the national title game, so everyone moves down a slot as Mizzou goes to the Sugar and Alabama goes to the Capitol One Auburn is in the Cotton, etc. LSU would end up in the Gator bowl or something.

Well thats probably game, was fun though. Hopefully this shows tOSU not worry to play in the BCS Champ game.. don't need the Big Ten to be embarrassed.

lol Michigan's defense is hot dog shit. How can it be that bad?

On Sumlin: Beats 1 ranked team in 2 years with a Heisman Qb and best player in A&M history. Cannot finish better than 5th in the SEC. Cannot coach defense. 6 year contract!

Okay well this just proves even more why tOSU doesn't deserve to go to the BCS Championship.. lol.

I feel sorry for whoever plays Duke in what is likely to be the Chicken bowl. I predict a record low attendance. Of course it could be us

Whatever, Duke is going to knock off Florida St next week in the ACC title game

Duke Football (10-2) has a better record than Duke Basektball(6-2) as of the end of November. When is the last time that happened? I'd almost guess never(maybe when Spurrier was their coach)

Ballsy call. Too bad it didn't work out

Can't blame Hoke for going for it there. I mean his QB is gimpy as hell, no telling if he could have made it through OT.
