Mine came as well about a week ago. It does work but since my internet sucks so bad streaming video is a pretty shitty experience just like it is on every other gadget in my house.

Also, I can't control it from a laptop on wifi, only from a computer that is plugged directly into the router? I guess this is a known bug but it seems pretty weird since it does work from my phone which is on wifi. It also shows up as a router on my laptop which is also weird. Makes me wonder if they did some weird hacky stuff to get it working.

My wireless devices see my Chromecast like it is its own wi-fi network, when I look at available wifi networks to connect to, that is odd, I agree.

That's pretty much the exact opposite of my experience though, Chromecast works fine with all my wifi devices(including laptop) but I cannot control it at all with my wired gaming PC that is on the same network as everything else. I've heard you can get a wired PC working if you temporarily slap a wifi NIC/USB device on it for the initial setup, but I don't own any wifi USB dongles, and I'm not going to buy one just to set up my Chromecast, I'll wait and hope that gets fixed with a firmware upgrade at some point.

Odd. I've set my Chromecast up on two different networks. I've generally set it up through a mobile device, but I can cast to it without any issues from any wireless or wired device.

It hasn't received a ton of use recently except quickly casting YouTube videos to my TV to share with people that are over. I think I missed the bus on rooting it and being able to cast local network media to it.

The local Best buy had a bunch of Chromecasts on display when I took my mom out window shopping for tablets a few weeks ago and she decided to pick one up. I would have grabbed one as well, but since it doesn't do anything my PS3 can't already do, I decided to wait.

Setup was incredibly easy and I only had to explain once to my dad how to use it, so anyone should be able to use it. They both use their phones to control it without any issues. It will pay for itself in a month or two since he'll actually use his netflix subscription now instead of watching PPV movies.

I really hope they get other services on board soon, as people will forget about it by Christmas if they don't.

As far as I knew Plex team was directly involved with Google to get their app working.

Chromecast is awesome for YouTube videos, but I find the performance streaming other videos via the Chrome plugin pretty poor. The computer, router, and TV are all in the same room, and something like Bill Maher's "Overtime" shouldn't impose that much of a demand. It still freezes constantly.

I had some friends over and put my tablet on a counter with the YouTube app open. Streamed music videos to the TV via Chromecast. I know it's cheesy and there's probably some ad showing just that... but damn if people didn't love playing around with it. Worth $35 just for that.

wish this would support Plex.

I haven't used my Chromecast since the week it came out, it's just gathering dust until it gets Plex support.

I love it for youtube. I don't know if it's google's fault that it still doesn't support things like Vimeo or what. The tab casting thing doesn't work worth crap. I'm glad to hear about HBO Go just because it shows that somebody is still working on this thing.

Any confirmed working for 4tube, xhamster, etc..???
No. Any webpage with embedded video that isn't supported directly (Youtube, Hulu, HBOGo) basically doesn't work at all. I've tried porn, video game reviews on ign.com, news videos from cnn.com, etc and none work very well. It'll start, you might get a few frames in, and it'll randomly stop/skip/pause/desync

When it came out I was under the impression that it was super easy to support it, like if you're Cnet or Vimeo or something you would give it to an intern and they would do it in half a day sort of easy. For some reason no one has done it though, so either Google has not opened it up the way they said they would or people don't want to use it for whatever reason.

Yeah, once they release that SDK to the public, I would suspect every halfway large website on the planet will be supported within the first week.

Needs to happen ASAP
