I love how this game gives you all sorts of little puzzles to solve as you expand your city.

BTW make sure to take advantage of the fact that your metro tunnels have two lanes and can make a second line that travels in the opposite direction.

Its basically traffic simulator though, the problems aren't really problems you just add parks, fire, police, schools, hospital to each neighborhood, and the land value and tax income outweighs the costs dramatically. As the neighborhoods get more mature and the citizens get more educated they earn even more money.

As you run out of power upgrade the plants. As you run out of water/sewage upgrade those. Go for clean versions when you need them. Add incinerators and crematoriums sprinkled as needed. Past that, do fun stuff. Throw down your monuments. Fiddle with public transport now and then.

The fun/challenging part is bulldozing old neighborhoods to fix the roads, taking out a whole interchange because you didn't line everything up, and adding elevated on/off ramps so your guys can merge onto the highway cleanly.

I was fluctuating 4-5k people as I re-zoned and upgraded/fixed roads :p

I went Wind, Water-turbine(they are great if you have a spot to have them all @ 20MW output) and then solar. I really want the fusion power, 16k MW is insane , but don't think I will get it unless I tank my city on purpose and re-grow.

You're right, it is pretty much just traffic, but traffic effects other things like trash collection, which effects landfill placement, which effects where you want to zone.

Maybe the simulation could be deeper, sure, but I think I'd rather have one really hard, but solvable problems to solve like traffic and lots of trivial problems than a bunch of medium complexity problems that are never solvable.

Roundabouts!

Seriously though, it's actually working pretty well so far. I'm about to un-zone the last of my factories on the far top of that screenshot and just be all offices. A decent amount of space still left before I need to purchase another section of map. Things are growing steadily as I *just* upgraded most of the areas to high density.

I also have some wonky raised highway over at the edge of town that I can get rid of once the factories are gone, they had troubles getting goods out of town so I gave them a 1-way flyover to truck their shit right to the exit

Most of the incoming traffic is for industrial zones right? I'm sitting at working thinking about how I am going to layout my next city and I'm thinking of just funneling all of the incoming traffic right into a two sided six lane road through my industrial zone which then hits a round about. Then all offshoots from the central roundabout will be one way roads and that any travel between my residential areas(east/west) and the commercial (north)/industrial(south) areas will be directed by roads and eventually highways that come out of the back of the residential zones and connect to the sides/backs of the commercial/industrial zones. Then throw on an roundabout overpass from commercial to industrial and residential to residential. I am hoping I can still use a grid system with this setup and avoid many traffic issues.

Might not even need to bother with a central round about... hmm

The LHC seems pretty sweet to build also. No longer having to worry about education and being able to bulldoze all the existing school makes it pretty cost effective in the long run.

When I try to edit the premade freeways, I get weird T symbols just like when your freeway isn't connected to anything and traiffic stops running, anything I connect to them doesn't work. WTF? This is going to fuck up my city if I unpause as I can't make an exit.

Also is there a way to build bridges over things like railway lines?

Yeah I just hit 109k and built the LHC and the space elevator.

My city is pretty unwieldy though. I'm trying to leverage the power of trains, but now my trains need their own roundabouts lol.

The t symbols are the termination of a 1-way street. Continue it with other 1-way streets.

Remember to draw your freeways in the direction they are supposed to flow. They are 1-way streets.

This game has rekindled my love for city builders. Loving it!

Are the Police HQ and Fire Station(?) strictly superior versions of their smaller counterparts? Or is there some sort of synergy to take advantage of? Also, is it somewhat expected to just begin using only high density zoning once it's unlocked? Or should you use both, depending on the area?

I'll say, literally the ONLY thing that I don't like about this game is that some of the unique building unlocks involve stupid negative shit that you wouldn't ever get without specifically trying to fuck your city. I love unlocks, but silly "lol suck in just this specific way" unlocks/achievements are very retarded, I've never liked them.

You have to be careful how you draw them, they act like when you draw one way streets. Zoom in and follow the highway close and you will see arrows, look for broken flow of traffic etc.
