i hit the start of act 3 friday and been just doing all the optional stuff and trophy extras since then, another 14 hours or so of playing before i finish the story its kinda wild how much extra stuff (completely optional) is in the game. Pretty sure nothing gets locked out either so you can finish in any order you want, i just like saving the last trophy for finishing the game if its something the game lets you do. i'm down to just 6 trophies left and i think all but 1 are in the last mission.

i think the combat is really fun if you get good at parrying and figure out crazy broken builds, most fights i am killing everything in round 1 because I have so many weird damage boosts and buffs. extremely glass cannon though, a lot of fights I start at 1 HP and if i miss a parry its over lol. there's only 3-4 mobs that have attacks that can't be dodged or parried, 95% of the mobs and bosses you can do 100% damage avoidance. it reminds me a little bit of the FF remake combat simulator but not as flashy / complicated.

haven't tried simon yet, 56 million single damage attack seems insane. i think i've topped out at 1.5m or so, will have to check out simon

56 million first turn too, enemy doesn't get to play. I think people are using the roulette pictos (50% of 200% dmg, 50% of 50% dmg) to get higher number. I could have gotten 100mil + with that I guess. I was doing 6 million per turn on maelle with my previous burn build. I was doing about 12ish % of his hp per turn and was often dying by turn 3. And that was with second chance (1 rezz per battle) and survivor (survivor is cheat death but it's kind of crap).

Simon is an entirely different beast parry wise. Never had an issue before simon learning parry rhythm within a reasonable amount of time (let's say 1h max for hard bosses). Some of Simon attacks just mind raped me. But I was really squishy too, a single attack from a 8 hit combo would kill me. Although that doesn't really matter cause he steal shield and gets you to 1hp.

Square Enix should be embarrassed by this game. It does what they used to be able to do before they went off the deep end. Its gorgeous and it has a story that I was not prepared for in terms of how I felt personally attacked (in a good way...) by the overarching theme.

Simon made me eat my words. I was saying how the game is just about learning parry and dmg optimization wasn t very important. I spent the whole evening trying to beat him by learning to parry his attack and was never able to reliably do so for the lightning fast one. Then I finally get him to 25% by sheer luck and then he is scripted to wipe your party and you have to beat him when my underleveld reserve crew? They do no damage, impossible without grinding a bunch. I ended up looking on internet how people manage that and it's just good old dmg modifier stacking. I did my own version with what I thought was best and what I had but I think some people can get much higher than my 56mil. I was borderline not making it, not sure what I was missing. I was using sciel for double dmg, and sireso with verso with all the dmg modifier pictos I could get on maelle.

I wonder if anyone has been able to reliably parry his really fast attack? I guess it's just about learning the rhythm but that was beyond me.
Yeah same beats as phase one but you double tap, beat him stacking counter attack damage.

If you farm lumina and stack a shit ton of pictos you can hit over 1 billion damage with Mael on the right setup. Sure you won't actually get to experience any of the fights but I guess it's fun in it's own way.

Total overkill but big numbers are fun. I think Simon topped out at like 50m health which is very easy to do as maelle. I'm almost certain her math is broken somewhere in the code lol nobody else can come even remotely close to her damage output

Those setups are boring though, it relies on getting level 3 gradient by building gradient meter on your other two characters first then using her lvl 3, when you can just kill any mob in the game off her first round Stendhal anyway with around 300-400 lumina and her sword that starts her in virtuous stance

Wrapped this up last night and saw both endings.

Man what a game.

Sequel ideas:

If you went with saving Verso in the canvas and ignoring his wishes, which results in him playing the Piano and Maelle's face turning deathly, could run with a sequel based on her going insane and breaking her father's trust by not coming back to real life. Sprawl off that.

Or...

If you played as Verso and Maelle went back to the real world as Alicia, could do a couple things. Alicia goes back after having a very difficult time living in the real world. Or, someone learns about the Canvas power and it's a whole new story - or could even have the Canvas folks leak into the real world and try to take it over ha

Everything was just so top notch in this game from a production and story stand point. The music was ridiculously good. The side bar character arcs were fantastic. I loved the combat and leveling systems. The atmosphere was so well done, game ran perfectly. Only thing I would fix was that God Awful bloom. Voice acting was superb.

Now we just have to hope the fucks at MS do not buy them.

It s the group wide really fast one i wasnt able to get down. Didnt find any audio or visual cue to anticipate the hit, basically have to learn the exact rhythm of like 8hits? And one fail whole group dies.

agree, but idc if they ditch this story arc and family of characters completely. there is no lore saying they are the only painters that exist and their world has magic so the studio could get all kinds of creative.

Just picked this up on PS5 yesterday. Immediately hated the QTE but after 15 minutes or so I trained myself to not even look at the visual for them and just respond to the sound which made them all trivial - so now I love the QTE.

After getting by on dodge for a while I decided to just try to parry everything. So yeah I've had a few reloads but it's pretty fun. Took about 10 goes to beat that over levelled side mob in the first area.

Awesome game, absolutely loving it.

You're confusing stats from pictos and attributes stats when you level. Attribute stats like Vitality affects 2 different sub type of stats. So there are 2 different defense "stats" in clair obscur: the stat with a direct effect on dmg taken, and the attribute that you level up that affects both defense and crit. There is no attribute gain on any pictos. Therefore, pictos don't do anything for weapon scaling directly.

While Dualiso has the lowest dmg of all his swords, it allows him to burn some AP on Free Aim shots that you can buff with various debuffs (burn, mark, defenseless), and then use a Base Attack that you can buff (combo attack, energizing attack, etc.). Then fire off a Skill. Later on when you're starting the battle with 7-9 AP, it could be better to use a higher Atk weapon for a big nuke.

This reply likely confused them even more. Simple answer is No, the stats on Pictos do not affect a weapons scaling type. They are just added to the total without contributing to Attack.
