Yea the Nebraska hire is kind of a head scratcher.

As per national titles once you go way back.... you get teams like Pitt which claim 9 national titles from being voted in obscure magazines in the 20s and 30s..talking about shit like Good Housekeeping etc. Bout as realistic as their attendance claims

UF hire was Sabans offensive coordinator at Alabama from like 2007-2011, before he went to colorado st as head coach for 3 years

edit - and I also don't understand the Nebraska hire. Talk about underwhelming. I had to look it up, I was certain he HAD to have some sort of tie to Nebraska for this to make sense, but nope, nothing. Dude played for Alabama, coached at a lot of places but nowhere near Nebraska or the old Big 8/Big12 schools. He's been a West coast guy most of his coaching career (was head coach of the Chargers for a few years in the late 90s)

I'm kind of a fan of picking a head coach from a division 1 school but not the upper most tier. It worked for LSU with Saban and Miles who were from well known programs but not top 15 schools which seems to be what people think they can hire nowdays.

Let me put it this way. He (not Saban) was the reason behind Meyer having a heart attack, Tebow crying, and me getting shit from Bama fans at Buffalo Wild Wings.

Now we got him lol.

Lol think you got UF confused with FSU.
From everything I can find it's still the rage at Florida.

10 Players from FSu since 2006 ( Who knows how many the TPD covered up tho)
http://www.tallahassee.com/story/new...2006/17108135/

And then Florida Gators
http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/flo...egacy-florida/

I do see where it says only one arrest since July 2013. I am guessing that's from Muschamps recruits.
You still have 22 arrests since the start of 2014.
After the team was riddled with legal issues and arrests during Urban Meyer's tenure, Muschamp improved the environment around the Gator program. Out of the 22 arrests since 2014, only two were players that Muschamp recruited. And since July 2013, the Gators have had only one arrest (Jalen Tabor - possession of marijuana).
It goes on to mention how it was Urban's recruits who were arrested ( yet still on the team led by CoachMuschamp ). Ya it seems like it went down, down to 22 from 40+. I can agree 22 is better than the 40+ they had before, but fuck that's still 22 arrests.

Mizzou is 14-3 in the SEC the last 2 years. Of those 14 wins, 4 in 2013(Georgia, #24 Vanderbilt, #18 Texas A&M, Miss St), and 5 this year(Florida, Tenn, S Carolina, Texas A&M, Arkansas). So 9 of our 14 conference wins against winning teams. 5 of the 9 were ranked at the time we beat them. The only team we've played the past 2 years that had a losing record both years was Kentucky. our 3 losses were #13 Georgia this year, and #20 South Carolina and #3 Auburn last year. Mizzou went 8-0 in road games, 6-2 in home games, an 0-1 in neutral site games(SEC title) over those 2 years, oddly enough.
Guess what. Rankings at the time you beat them means jack shit. It means you beat a over rated team who shouldn't have been ranked that high in the first place. Holy shit just leave that crap out every other 5 days you decide to defend your record on wins vs loses. You're using the logic of them no longer being ranked because you beat them? Your guess is those teams only had one loss to you and are no longer in the top 25 then. My guess is that they had other losses combined with the loss to your team that dropped them out of the rankings.

Florida's hire at least makes some sense... hell of a gamble though with Muschamp's AND this guy's buyout all in one stroke, but it sounds like a fairly calculated risk. Sucks for Tennessee if it pans out :p

I'm with you, which is why I'm not thinking WTF on the UF hire. I just don't know anything about, until this thread at least.

The Nebraska hire is taking a guy that has been at a mid-tier school (at best) forever and has not really accomplished a whole lot. It would make more sense if they hired him after the good Oregon State teams of several years ago, but not now.

4 in two years. 3 last year(Georgia, Vandy, A&M) and 1 this year (Florida)

So, out of our 16 regular-season games, we're 14-2, with a 4-2 record against teams over .500 (and a 6-2 record against ranked teams)

So out of 16 games, we've played 6 teams with eventual winning records in conference, and we've played 8 teams that were ranked at the time we played them, we tend to knock people out of rankings when we win, I guess losing to us is an embarrassment or something, despite the fact that only like 5 programs have more wins than us over the past 8 years....

I'll take it. You can only beat who is on your schedule.
4-4 is not a winning record... So the right answer is, 2.

The general consensus for a "winning" season in college football = bowl eligible = .500. It's the standard that everyone measures a "winning" season or a "losing" season by.

By your standards of "above .500"

Only 5 of 14 SEC teams have winning records this year
Only 5 of 14 Big 10 teams have winning records,
Only 5 of 14 ACC teams ahve winning records
etc

You have to include .500 teams in either your "winning" category or "losing" category, and they certainly don't have losing records.

Guess what. Rankings at the time you beat them means jack shit. .
And that completely depends on the team/situation. Yeah, South Carolina this year was overrated and just hadn't played enough games yet to show it, they didn't deserve their ranking. But what about a situation like Ole Miss? They aren't the same team now as they were a month ago. Injuries happen in college football, teams get hot, teams go cold. College football can very much depend on what time of year you play a team as to how good they are. A team can be completely different(for better or worse) in September than they are in November. Look at Arkansas, no one would tell you they were the same quality of team in week #1 as week #12 of the season. The teams that played them in November played a MUCH better team than the teams that played Arkansas in September. Same with Alabama, their offense looked like shit the first month of the season, and they look like Oregon Jr now on offense. If the Alabama/Auburn game had happened the first week of the season rather than the last, I think we would have seen a completely different outcome.

If mizzou beats bama Joo is right. Mizzou is good.

If they lose to bama, it's proof they beat overrated crap teams. Done deal.

That's probably fair depending on how close the game is, but there's no team in college football right now that would be favored in a game against Alabama on a neutral field. I guess everyone is overrated if Bama beats them

I think I'm fairly reasonable about my Mizzou fandom. I've never claimed we're one of the best teams in the country this year, I'm not clamoring for a playoff spot if we somehow were to win this weekend. But we're a good team, we're a top 25 team, and I'm good with that this year. It was a rebuilding year, we lost our starting QB, our top 4 WRs, our top RB, 3 O-lineman(one is starting for the Seahawks), the SEC defensive player of the year, another 2nd round D-lineman, arguably the top rookie CB in the NFL this year, etc. We lost a TON of talent from last years team, to even be close to getting back and playing for an SEC title is just gravy at this point. Every sane Missouri fan I know was predicting a 8-4 or 7-5 type decent, but rebuilding year. I'll take 10-2 anyday.

Nothing near as bad as other schools plus happy with the coach we got.

MIZZOU is solid, with awesome coaching and player development. Afaik they have a dog shit QB. But I only watched maybe... Two of their games?

But, .500 is not >.500.

Oh yes, our QB isnt good. He's a Sophomore with a Canon arm but zero finesse. He just rifles the ball right through receivers hands on routes less than 10 yards or so. He only completes 50 percent of his passes. Our passing game is wildly inconsistent.

Our team this year is very much like Florida 2012 that went like 10-2 with a stifling defense and worthless offense.

Here's to hoping the kid gets better over the next 2 yearsrather than pulling a Jeff Driskel

Obviously you have never heard of Ryan Perilloux, Rhett Bomar, Dayne Crist, Garret Gilbert, Jess Driskel, or Mich Mustain. To be a huge bust you have to first be a highly rated recruit. Our QB, Maty Mauk, was not. He was a 3-star recruit out of Ohio. Sure he set every national high school passing record in existence, but he was not expected to be an immediate star in college. He's basically right where he was predicted to be, an inconsistent Sophomore QB. 3-star kids don't come in and dominate their first year starting.

And what the hell are you betting on? Missouri is 8-4 against the spread this year.

I swear, some people here have never looked up a stat in their lives, they just form opinions on what they assume to be true/what fits their agenda the best. It's almost like participating in a politics thread at times. The ignorance of the vocal minority can be overwhelming.
