There's a shit ton of Federal money that flows into State shit that's crippling a lot of State stuff, but it's delayed. People are gonna feel that shit if this persists for multiple weeks.

So it sounds like they've agreed we'll get paid after this. So fuck it, it can go on all month for all I care.

Paid vacation!

GOP wants to look like heroes this way. Makes them look like benevolent heroes... disgusting.

I'm an air traffic controller, and we're required to continue working... for no pay (well, they've promised they will pay us at some point in the future, eventually)... except we can no longer take any annual leave, or sick leave.... Oh, and we had a computer system go down for 12 hours, because there was no one in the building to fix it, and they are unable to use any overtime for those support people that WERENT furloughed (many simply aren't working at all)... so we were writing down things using scraps of paper since you know, we kind of started getting used to doing things with computers in the 2nd decade of the 21st century.

So Hey, come October 15th, do you really want to board a flight where the only thing preventing it from smacking into another airplane at 400mph is a sick and tired guy who had his vacation canceled and hasn't gotten a paycheck for his last 2 weeks of work while he works with shitty equipment that is no longer being serviced?

edit: p.s. on the plus side, I was going to get my first pay raise after 5 years of working for the FAA, 1.6% I guess that almost keeps up with inflation.... right?

Selfishly, yes, I could care less if it continues. But that's because I've got an emergency fund I can dip into to last without a paycheck for several months.

Most of my coworkers, however, are pretty fucked right now. Especially the ones with kids.

I feel like lots of people marginalize the number anyway. Like, oh, it's only 800k. Yeah, unless you're one of them.
Hehe exactly. My girlfriend (a DoD contract specialist) might go with no pay if this lasts another few weeks. I'm a software engineer on a DoD funded project, and we cannot take Paid Time Off until this works out (just a minor inconvenience really). So fuck everyone who says "let's keep it going, its not affecting me". Especially all the pussy Congressmen trying to make some bullshit talking points while they pull a paycheck and others go without.

I hate it just as much as you but I want to make sure you know this.

Your contract was paid in full up front. Your company is being paid for you to be alive those days whether you work them or not. They are trying to save a few bucks if they won't let you take PTO or anything else.

This doesn't excuse congress or anything but your company is bending you over on this one.

You're making a lot of assumptions here.

You realize the government already employed guards prior to shutting down the parks and monuments?
Which begs the question, what is it they are "shutting down"? You take trees and grass and lakes, you toss a few fences up and call it a park. You hire security and a couple dumb asses at minimum wage to sit in a booth at the entrance and charge money to stare at the trees right? So the government shuts down and you keep paying security to race around making sure no one hangs out and trys to have a fucking picnic in the grass at the "park"......Makes no sense. If the funding for the parks is shut down, send the fucking security guards home. But the government is going to continue to pay these guys to make sure no one enters and walks around the trees, which if you take the fences down is no longer a park, its just nature right? Its got to be the most laughable tactic I've seen yet. Yea Obama, make it hurt. I'll go stare at some trees that don't have a fence around it.

P.S. Make sure those 80 year old veterans can't stare at the giant wall outside with the names of their dead comrades inscribed. That will show the Republicans!

If it's an incrementally funded contract, they absolutely can run out of money. A very large portion of service contracts are incrementally funded (I'd say majority, but that's only within my organization and I can't speak for the entire government).

In fact, during the last furloughs over the summer, we had to modify a lot of contracts to basically say "We're not paying your workers on government furlough days."

Each phase is funded in full prior to the increment. You edited future contracts did you not? Up until recently contracts had no furlough clauses in them.

No Tuco there isn't one contract to fill them all but there are rules about how people get paid and contracts are fully funded for their increment.

One thing I do know is that any business is greedy. It is part of the process and they don't want to pay people that can't fully do their job. Nor should they.

The point is that currently the contractors are not furloughed by the government. A large number of organizations are only keeping afloat because of them. There are a few that aren't, sure. That part is fully in the hands of their boss though and not congress.

Enjoy that shit. I work for Ford and we are down for 2 week atm so we dont dip to much into the order bank and keeps the rest of the year rolling right along. We get to file unemployment + we get subpay from Ford, giving us about 80% of our pay while I sit around and smoke and play gta lol. We have another 2 week shutdown in july, but thats mostly to do maintenance on the robots and such. However my mini vacations may be coming to an end if we get overflow work of the Escape and F-150 XD

Not sure what you mean by phase. But there are periods of performance for all contracts. I'd be willing to bet a significant amount of contracts have already, or will, run out of funds within the next 1-2 weeks. The contractors are kind of on the hook for their employees, so they absolutely have reason to send their employees home.

As far as "furlough clauses," every single government contract has a changes clause as well as a termination for cause/convenience clause. That's 100% sufficient to stop payment on a contract.

I work for the DoD, so I went back to work yesterday. Was basically off half the day Tuesday, and Wed-Fri.

hey man, if you don't like it - you can always call your Representative and both senators and tell them to end the shutdown.

unfortunately by the looks of it, your representative just split town in august so Alabama's 1st congressional district doesnt have a House rep right now

Does it hurt deep down knowing you are stupid and were convinced by Fox News that you should be outraged by this park shit?
