It's also a funny thought experiment. If you waited a year for the price to drop, you'd basically have a continuous set of games you play a year later. If you don't play every game on day 1, but day 366, you still have the exact same amount of games to play. But you also have the bonus of patches and lower cost.
The only reason you wouldn't want to wait is for multiplayer games where typically the rush is the best time to play.
And I feel like Starfield is a better comparison. In fact, I had an almost identical conversation when it released. I said it looked like shit and wasn't worth the price, and then got met with a deluge of "stop being poor." Whoops, turns out I was right to wait. Because I found out that I didn't want to play it ever. $70 in my pocket and no time wasted on a crap game.
