I’m already taking flak for not owning it yet.

read last night the review embargo is the 18th, that good or bad news? Seems bad to me. I'm not buying anything until I hear what the peeps here think anyhow so , who is the sacrificial lamb?
If a company feels the need to restrict reviews, it usually signals a lack of confidence that customer feedback will be positive. There's really no other reason to control it.

Late review embargos for story heavy games can be fine. Where there is no reason for it though, since there aren't really any spoilers to hide, it gets more iffy. With the marketing blitz this game has, I'd also assume that most major reviews will be in the 8+ territory since we all know they can be bought.

I think the more telling part will be once the independent reviewers like AOC and such get to release their reviews and how long they've had to play it beforehand. It will be a visually stunning huge open world, and will most likely run fairly well, something most likely every review will hit upon. However, it is obvious that this games faults (if any) lies in the depth of the game and to review that you'd need time in the game.

But, might not be an issue at all. Elden Ring also only released their embargo two days (this is one day) before release. However, reviewers had their copies well ahead of that date so they could put a lot of time into it before reviewing. If it is the same here, I don't think it's much of an issue. Most games have very close dates for review embargos now don't they? Not saying it is a good thing, but it's looking more like becoming an industry standard rather than the "oh this is suspicious" like we could say before. Add another thing into the "things were better before" pile.

I will say this is the first game I’ve heard people at work bring up.

PA has probably poured a massive chunk (if not all) of their annual marketing budget into this game. On top of that, a lot of the BDO streamers are incentivized to stay in line because they don't want to risk losing their partner status and are good little cucks that toe the line. So you can expect a flood of hype from them regardless of the game's actual quality. Even if it launches in rough shape, it'll likely be framed as "they'll fix it" or "the foundation is already amazing," rather than getting honest criticism.

5pm for reviews.

This guy is going over a few things.

* No Difficulty Slider - Not as hardcore as Elden Ring but people like Hateyou Hateyou need to gidgudfgt.
* Puzzles are Stamina gated
* No quest makers (Already known)
* Some dense areas along with some very empty areas
* Some/Most of the enemies are the same outside of bosses
* Opening hour is fairly slow useful to learn systems
* Game Stamina is severely restricted at the start so make sure to do a lot of exploration and side activities
* Some skills may not be found - Dev is expecting communities to talk about what they have found
* Some puzzles are frustrating with controls
* Physics glitches (To be expected) I think these are hilarious.
* A lot of Popping when traversing is faster.
* Navigation can be frustrating (For me as long as it is like Elden Ring I loved that)
* Weather Physics
* Generic Story/Fantasy
* Underwater exploration is nothing like land - 50/50 if you care or not - but was found lacking
* Some side quests feel like random chores (Classic bear ass quests - or quests with no narrative)
* Banking system
* 573 different locations - Ubisoft style outposts - clear bandit camps quite a bit.
* Regional accents for voices in the world
* A lot of copy pasted interiors
* Skill based fishing
* Plot is on rails with no major choices
* Stealth is lacking
* Particle overload at times
* Best Ray Tracing seen to date
* Fantastic day/night/shadow/lighting system
* Best implementation of global illumination by far
* Inventory management sucks - no storage container supposedly
* House has some way to store - up in the air
* Audio - finding quest POI's on audio cue's is great
* Praise of factional/regional areas and changes
* Early boss enemies will be overly difficult
* Late game enemies > Bullet Sponges
* Breakable armor for NPC's/Enemies
* Some tedius quest activations/completions (Getting to the right/exact spot to complete)
* No info yet on what the Day 1 patch will entail.
* Almost all upgrades are rewarded by exploring.
* An absolute shit ton of mini games

This game looks like flashy but shallow dog shit to me. If it ends up being reported as a goty type game after people have played it for more than 20-30 hours maybe I’ll consider it.

It'll likely be a decent game that has value at $30 or so, similar to DD2. At $70? Nope.

It sounds like the worst parts of BotW and ubisoft_open_world_game_14. The only thing missing is weapons that break after 5 swings.
