Also avoid fighting the crimson terror asshole thing in the dark. That sucked pretty bad, I can't imagine even trying reed devil in the dark.
Well in fairness I didn't know what I was getting into. When I realized it was too late. I try not to spoil the game and enjoy the exploration.

I basically had to spam food and R1/R2.

my buddy has put 80+ hours into the game and loves it but he was a hardcore Wow player who loved grinding forever (like some of you EQers) and this filled that little missing hole since all of us quit MMOs years ago.

I think an extremely broad game but very shallow describes it perfectly. There are a million systems and things to do but ultimately its all pretty shallow. Fun if you love the sandbox and spending hours in it (Skyrim, No Mans Sky, Minecraft, etc) but if you prefer a guiding narrative (Uncharted, RDR2) or deep lore/dense layered systems (Elden Ring) then this may not be your cup of tea. I'll definitely play when its on gamepass/ps+/etc or deep discount but i still haven't played cyberpunk 2077, kingdom come 2, or yakuza infinite wealth and those seem like better versions of this game.

Thankfully I can do both types of games. Open world rpg where you explore and try tons of different things or an on rails story driven one. Sometimes even a mix of them.

I love how I can come home, play this for an hour or so and feel relaxed. Its straight dopamine. What is the word to describe a feeling of nostalgia on a completely new thing, cause for some reason I get that with this game. I don't know if its just BDO stuff or something else. But there is something extremely relaxing about this game.

I tried to free some mining place north of the starting area. Killed felt like 10,000 mobs. But it still said I had to liberate places in red. Any idea what I did wrong? I finally got tired of killing mobs and left. There was initially a %% counter but it was long gone. I assumed (incorrectly it seems ) when that got to 0% it would liberate.

If you're talking about the quarry full of bleed bandits there's a boss to fight in there. Destroying the buildings is optional

Idk what the freeing mechanic is, I was killing mobs and freeing tied up dudes and I think once the % was gone the boss’s X appeared. Or maybe the X was there the whole time and I just thought it was the quest’s X. He’s in a walled off section you can just go in the doors or climb up and drop in.

Follow the inside rim of the excavation site until you see a pair of doors, arena is behind them

I accidentally came in from the back and killed the boss first for that one. But yeah the # of mobs you have to kill to reduce the counter is crazy.

For chapter 4 I also came in from the back / mountains, so never learned that move you need to clear special walls out, I had to google that one. Oops.

It wouldn't be so bad if they gave you more AoE earlier, or better combos etc. I kind of liked the idea behind it. One vs many is basically the PvE loop in BDO, but it felt like I was just button mashing R1 doing it here.

I came from the back. Years and years of EQ makes me want to pull mobs out to reduce aggro but it does not seem to work on this game. I'll look at it tonight. There is so damn much to do in this game and I keep going 'oooooh shiny!!'.

37.8 hours. Still at start of chapter 4. Still only 2 achievements. Completed all quests that are available to me (except the seal ones), including bounties. 27? crew and 210 ish inventory space. Only two quests I can't do are two that tell me to do farming by starting to quests at two farms, but there are no quests there so assume they unlock later.

For some reason this game doesn't give me open world fatigue, at least not yet. Current setup is the rapier that shoots stuff out of it that I got from one of the first bosses and just got a new spear from some ice lady boss. Also equipped her armor.

Guess I can continue main story now. Have nearly 100 clear soups so might be ready for the ape boss (or might be massively overpowered for it since I assume you can get to where I am in the main story in less than 5 hours).

I've never experienced a worse designed fight than this Keglord.

Edit: Natures Snare + Stab = easy win. I feel bad.

i feel the same way, most open world games have a few activity that are used repeatedly and you get tired after a while. This has much more variety so you aren’t constantly repeating the same stuff over and over again. It’s more space out…

Thats how I feel anyway.
