Every couple months I check this thread and it's always hilarious how this game I didn't play but that looks like a medieval fantasy ARPG gets all these crazy new things. Last time it was like "Oh yeah I'm grinding mats for my submarine", fully expecting people to discuss the best spots to farm mats to build your mass relay and how to best micromanage your spaceship in the next update.

This game is great but man the controls are terrible. I thought it was a controller game but I probably need to go KB+Mouse for it.

Camera and lock on and other basics I expect are something you fight with rather than depend on. It is very overwhelming though I am only like 8 hours in here and I know I have not even scratched the surface of things to find.

I used to think that the control setup was bad (for controller), but the more I played I realized its not the input combinations themselves, rather its using them to interact with the world / UI which is annoying at times. Like the forward momentum characters have that has you move into a space you didn't intend, the weird inventory management hoops you need to do. I was up around Varnia farming Ivory to upgrade various Cloaks, hunting Elephants and Rhino's. Trying to skin them was frustrating, since you had to find the exact spot for the skinning prompt to light up even though you're right next to it (this just happens with large animals, small ones haven't given me such issues).

Hell, I have no idea how to target lock, sometime it happens, sometimes it doesn't, not sure what causes it, lol. I'm still learning combat combo's too. I have an Abyss Gear (Volcanic) which I had solely for my Charged Shots, since it will nuke one target then send out these fireballs that can kill small enemies and send them flying. Very fun. Yet, yesterday while spamming my RT heavy attack I hit "Y" and the same effect happened, it was suprising and satisfying. So now if I see a clump of mobs, I run into them and pop off RT+Y... explosions happen. Fun.

Find an interactive map for CD, hide all the markers except for "Caves". Pick one and go exploring in that direction. Stop now and then to use "Blinding Flash" to check for nearby Puzzles or Teleports / Sealed Artifacts. It is a huge world.

yeah if there was a trophy for 'great game , terrible controls' this would win gold , silver and tie for bronze. That's why I stopped, I had to jump, hover, hit a dragon mid-air , wrangle it then jump up and heart shot it. Fuck all that noise.

The underwater exploration is superb. The diving suit(s) and breathing devices allow you stay underwater indefinitely, plus if you're ever in a bad situation you can teleport back to your ship (have to install a device to allow that). While I'm disappointed that they didn't open up any new areas on the Mainland, the ocean content is great.

This expansion is incredible. It's also crazy that more people aren't playing. Granted, I have a fancy controller and use a few additional buttons to make it comfortable for me... that might be holding people back.

Razer Wolverine V2 Pro for PS5 - I bought one on ebay awhile back. I think they were $250 new, I paid $90 or $100 I think. Here's one example for about $70 shipped: https://www.ebay.com/itm/860095960910

I also picked up a usbc -> usba dongle so that I can use the front ports of the PS5, which are only usbc - 4 pack, only using one of them, the rest go into my goodie box of parts. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F9YFLVJN

This adds 6 extra buttons. Two additional on top, near the triggers. 4 underneath, two on each side. I can't reliably use the ones underneath individually (most likely a human coordination fault) - for Crimson Desert, I bind the right side underneath to X - start running or hold to run, freeing up your right thumb for the stick. The top left side, near the two triggers, I bind that button to down arrow on the d pad. Lock on to target. That keeps your left thumb in place on the stick. I don't use the bottom left buttons nor the top right button.

Controllers for this game are weird. I usually use an 8bitdo Ultimate controller. Which works for most games but this game had severe input lag when I used it. But when I used the PS5 Dual Sense I had laying around it plays fine. This is an official Dual Sense Pro or whatever with paddles on the back. Which the game does not recognize at all.

Playing on my Macbook because its convenient for me to do so. Plays really well on Mac actually.

I just found the combo that basically does the most, or close enough to the most damage and repeat the top three easiest combos back to back. Back when I was young and played Tekken, I had all that shit locked down. With this, .. I just dont think its worth it to go that far.

Looking at some videos of this DLC, it looks amazing. But I really havent seen ship combat all that much. I havent had the time to play, or havent focused on giving it time (rather). Is the ship combat like Black Flag? or is it just some dialed down version of it?

I don't even have my personal ship yet. I put on the diving suit and plinked around the coast area, running on top of the water with that one skill you get. (force palm when in the water to pop up in the air, hold down your run key to start running on top of the water when you land)

I also completed the dragon armor, which put me near the ocean when that finished... I saw a few ships, so I spent about an hour flying around burning down pirate ships via dragon. Didn't loot anything, but watching the ragdoll physics from pirates being thrown 40 ft overboard after a fireball hit was enough of a reward to make that enjoyable.

From little I have seen on youtube (trying hard not to spoiler anything) it looks like a copy/paste of Black Flag combat. Which I think is my favorite ship combat to date. I cannot personally confirm that just yet. Maybe by the end of the weekend.

I have my steam controller in a box, hope mapping extra gestures and such on that might take over for using mouse keyboard. I like 2hander if just because you don't need near as many buttons as being done crazy hand to hand build

Man I wanted to get Steam Controller, but didn't want to wait forever for it. Ended up getting a Gamesir G7 Pro 8k Nioh Edition and couldn't be happier with it. Haven't tried CD yet, but hoping the extra buttons help when I finally do.

Never played Black Flag, but I imagine CD plays much like it. Basically I just try to stay roadside to the ene.y ship and blast. Aim with LT and fire with RT. The size of the ship determines how many cannons you have, but you also need that many ppl to man them.

All ships can have front mounted cannons of various types, and the legendary ships all have special perks. Like the Phantom Ship I just got the resources for has these orbiting spirits that will seek out and nuke enemies. They can typically wreck smaller ships. So in my opinion after sinking several dozen pirate ships, it fun.
