This doesn't necessarily mean that the THJ is 100% dead. It just means that the servers are coming down until the court case is finished. I still ultimately believe THJ wins the case because of Equitable Estoppel, reading the Judges response it's clear she understand the law, but doesn't understand the facts of the case because her knowledge of EQ is very lacking. The real question is how much do the THJ devs believe they will win.
I'd be ecstatic if THJ won and I'd hop right back on if the server came up again. Personally I don't think they have a chance though, granted I am an engineer not a lawyer.

the gaming sector and especially SoE/DBG are far too immature considering their revenue

anyone that remembers furors rant on PoTime understands the people in charge were mismanaging the product

by launching EQ2 they lured invested players to a new product, only to lose these customers because the new product had very little overlap with the original

i put my money on "the outcome being fake and gay" and still stand by that, DBG will miss every opportunity and just shut THJ down

i mean the DBG appointed expert stated that "there is a one way migration from live EQ to THJ"

even he agrees that eq live is an inferior product

Win or lose is irrelevant. In the end, DBG has become the enemy of the players.

When I see this thread, in my mind, I read it as "Daybreak Sues Players". That's what my mind's eye sees every time I see this thread. On a psychological level, I don't see this as an intellectual property infringement law suit. I see this as a company declaring war on their customers. I know I can't be the only one.

SoE always had a bad taste in most gamer's mouths for the slimy corrupt shit they did over the decades, but this takes it to the a whole new level. No longer are they fucking their customers with corrupt policies and procedures, but now they are actively suing them.

I cancelled my EQ subscriptions earlier this year, and after this, I will never, ever even think about resubbing ever again.

DBG has obliterated anything that was left of the faith that their customers had in them as a company. At this point, they are a straight up disgrace to the industry. All employees at DBG should be blacklisted from any companies in the gaming industry. Period.

But... we know they don't give a shit in the least bit. They're too busy recycling a couple more old zones, making iterative upgrades to existing spells and abilities, and packaging it in to yet another failed expansion, and designing their next pride pet to give away.

They should rename DBG to DFAM. Delusion Fucking Anti-customer Morons.

I hope they enjoy their failing piece of shit of a game and look forward to their unemployment. Let us hope those fucks never get hired anywhere else except maybe McDonalds.
Be upset with DBG management. While it's easy to lump all of DBG employees together - it is poor leadership that is primarily to blame.
While all the good employees left a long time ago - there are likely some frustrated ones left. Sadly they will suffer the poor decisions from management.

The smart thing is rarely ever done. Given they were apparently making 100,000 a month, which is insane given the small player base, they would be stupid to not just find a way to move it to their servers, hire a couple of the dudes who worked on it, to keep doing it, charge a sub + the microtransactions and just leave it going until its not a profit anymore. Or if they don't want any of the work, work out a deal with the profits to get their cut while others do all the work.

But corporations don't think this way, its more about just sending a message and trying to stop future tries, all while they pray the people(who usually have already quit their product) who were on these servers will miraculously come back to their product. Which I am going to guess very rarely happens. They just move on. Especially if the emu server is that much different from current product its emulating(like in this case, where its solo based, very casual, become OP, personal zones etc).

I mean, does the creator of The Hand Job server want a DB job? The dude works (as of the suit) for bethesda.

Naah, Shaming works for all things. Fat Shaming works, Degeneracy Shaming works...employment shaming works.

"Oh hey, I saw the company you work for in the news, apparently they are suing everyone for making fan projects that are more popular than your in house ones?"

Sure, don't harass people, but eventually people start being tired of working for shitty companies unless the pay is OUTSTANDING.

EQ will never, ever, die though. Shit "The Realm" still is going with like 100 people paying. The Realm Online

See you all on new TLP 2026!

How many times over the years have players crashed out over EQ but still found their way back to the next TLP lol.

No hate from me but EQ has delivered an insane amount of entertainment over the years, both in game and outside the game with drama.

I think some people are addicted to the drama.

Does he? I honestly have no clue. I am just spitballing. Kind of greedy though, working for a gaming company(so he should know how it is) , sure start a hobby project for fun, but then turn around and start selling things and turn it into a business(on assets you don't own). Had to know it was coming eventually, with the kind of money he was apparently making.

As soon as they replaced "lost" Chrono with Platinum, I was done with the company. It would have to be an outstanding rule set TLP for me to even consider coming back to the game. Even then, I am not sure I would.

Am I missing something? If they can't get DB to drop the case they go to trial and are basically bankrupted when they're found liable for 50 million in damages ?

Pretty much. The amount doesn't really matter other than to scare others off of making emus in the US ever again. The devs will be able to bankruptcy out of it at the end of the day, but they are fucked if they don't settle.

If DBG was smart (we know they're not, but let's pretend) they would spin up a Fall 2025 special TLP like RIGHT NOW. With a boatload of THJ players now looking for some EQ to play and a player base that doesn't particularly like FB, DBG should open a server on October 1 and rake in some extra cash (bag and pot sales, etc.) and convince the THJ players they should come back to try EQ again. Assuming they could put together a server with a great rule set (ok, history says that won't happen but again let's pretend) they could score big points with the community - they are in desperate need of re-connecting with players and an amazing unannounced TLP would go a long way.

If dog were smart they’d let people rent private servers where they could customize rulesets and have designated gms for that server.
