Bro idk if it’s smart to say you took unsolicited donations for an eqemu server on a forum that’s literally in the lawsuit. Just sayi, stay safe out there bro
TAKP has all of 45 people online right now and we never advertised our server anywhere because it was a preservation project and not a money making endeavor. TAKP has always had a low population problem which was kind of depressing for me because I thought the project was very successful in regards to accuracy. Daybreak could turn Al'Kabor back on and kill our server overnight if they wanted. (please do) Anyway I haven't gotten a donation in a couple of years. That's long over.

If monetization is your goal then you'll do things to attract as many players as possible, like advertise all over the place. The other emus don't do this. (p2002 aside) Also if you're getting paid significant amounts for your emu (enough to pay rent), you can devote much more time to it which increases the quality which makes it stand out against servers that don't monetize which makes it a bigger threat to Daybreak. You can praise THJ for being well-made but it's a hell of a lot easier to make a good server if you're getting revenue from it.

I still cant believe these morons thought they could put out an installer that calls the Freemium EQ download through Steam and pulls LIVE SERVER assets and didnt think it would draw attention. Nothing is free in life. Its one thing to push people to pirate a titanium download from Chrome, its another to monetize a game you didnt create and actively cost money and resources to not just the Developer, but the largest gaming platform on earth.

It's the players that advertise the server, not the devs. I've gotten a few friends to try THJ cause it was a unique concept, I would never tell them to try out some classic EQ server even though we all played EQ back in the day cause that shit's not fun for anyone except true EQ autists. You have to start with a good idea and have it be well made in the first place to get the revenue.

Most emus including THJ use the rof2 client which is a decade old by now, don't know where you think they use the steam version from.

THJ installer literally pulls from steam brother. You can use rof2 but look at their damn wiki bro, it fucking literally instructs you to open steam, add EQ to your library, then copy and paste a command into steam to download the depot files for EQ. You are clearly not at all familiar with THJ, or this whole situation, yet here you are in a thread about THJ, responding to people talking about THJ, while completly ignorant to anything and talking about "other EMUs". Try to keep up Kiddo

In the end 90%(probably more) of it isnt their assets and they are selling their own currency for $ to buy in game items(that use assets they do not own). They had to see it coming. Doesn't matter how old the assets are.

You can argue if copyright/ip law is dumb or what not, but GL getting it changed. As its not just corporations that use it.

I think its what 70 years after something is copyrighted before it becomes free to public use?

I assume the ones most upset are because they are playing it. Is it shut down now? If not, you probably have a good bit to play still , since court systems are not exactly fast(unless one side just gives in).

i'm pretty sure every EMU lists this as one of the options to get the client. i didn't use steam to get THJ I used a link in their discord that downloaded it from some other site.

I dont think getting the client is an issue anymore. iirc EQ has a f2p version that's very limited(aka to try to suck people in)? But it goes all the way up to Night of shadows for free. So the client is out there for anyone to get. You can download the exe straight from there site without an account or anything.

So they are showing the steps of how to get the rof2 client, got it. Like shown here RoF2 Client Download (Steam) - EQEmulator Forums, 15 years ago. Thanks for clearing that up bud.

THJ has made a boat load, Daybreak just let them get nice and fat before the slaughter.

Also, their class changes and QOL offerings are just part of it. I know when I was playing there, EoM's were bought and sold all day long. This makes it fully pay2gear at minimum, and P2W if you know what you're doing.

Overlaying splash pages and logos with THJ, directing people to the steam download to get started, P2W function, etc. Any of these could be grounds of a winning lawsuit.

What I haven't seen an answer for yet, and I assume it is just based on the cash they made, is how they hired ML&B. From chatter about the lawsuit and quick searches, they aren't a amberlamps chassin outfit.
