I do wonder how the fact that they've let emulators exist for almost 2 decades will play into that.
How about the PLers and bot teams that DBG has let take over the game? They should as shit are profiting from DBG's IP. So why do they get a pass but emulators don't? A lot of interesting questions could be asked and I'm not sure DBG really wants to publicly answer them.

I more mean, their inaction is an implicit condoning of the emulators. It's not like they don't know about them or didn't have the ability to sue them for the last two decades.

it makes me wonder how the many, many paid emulators for WoW, like ascension, turtle, etc exist. They are clearly for profit, they run non stop ads on social media, have cash shops etc, and Blizzard, as fallen as it is, is still actually a real company, unlike daybreak which is a fucking joke.

So why does Blizzard give for profit emulators a pass?

They are smart, lay low, and host in countries that wont even accept a lawsuit.

seriously, THJ could have make money for years if they just didnt host the shit in a jurisdiction that cares.

Blizzard is also despite sucking for a decade, a very profitable company with many streams of income.

DBG has EQ and thats it. The rest of their portfolio probably doesnt pay the rent on their office.

Right, but their last TLP is a total disaster and the suits are probably starting to ask questions about pulling the plug on the franchise.

Reading around and after a quick curious look, it seems like EQ is their biggest revenue. And DPG itself the biggest revenue for the investment group. So not sure they are going to pull the plug cause one TLP does bad. Its not the first time.

If EQ is their shining star why don't they put more fucking effort in to it

Other emulators don't appear to be raking in profits, or at least not direct monetized profits.

Also, other emulators never struck me as being such a direct attack. I realize its THJ players not devs, but there was a VERY large and snarky call for people to skip out on tlps in favor of thj and well beyond something like a sarcastic "go back to p99" or whatever.

Then, theres the fact that so many of these emus have had symbiotic relationships with eq and tlps. There are a number of players who bounce between live eq and p99 where live doesnt require a lot of investment. There are tons and tons of players who bounce between tlps and p99, generally quitting around the late pop era or so for tlps, they're obvious and visible because 90% of them are the shittiest tlp players.

it makes me wonder how the many, many paid emulators for WoW, like ascension, turtle, etc exist. They are clearly for profit, they run non stop ads on social media, have cash shops etc, and Blizzard, as fallen as it is, is still actually a real company, unlike daybreak which is a fucking joke.

My understanding was that blizzard sniffed at trying and couldn't really get at them. They chased a few out of major countries and I believe the juice wasn't worth the squeeze going past that. I would guess thj could have skated if they were located in myanmar or something.

Again, If that's true then THJ should just buy the IP from the owner since they make more money than daybreak games does

hit them with that reverse uno card and fire everyone at daybreak.

and the WoW emulators do anything but lay low they advertise on fucking facebook instagram and X. It must be because they are based in a country that doesn't give a shit. Which is super surprising that THJ didnt do this as well since they were clearly making profit

They're undoubtedly staffed with a pure skeleton crew, and they they don't think it would be worth the money to do anything more. Their only market is people who want to play eq, so their only competition is really emus.

With what money? All of THJ's money is Daybreak's. They just haven't collected yet.

Does it? most recent one I think I found in a quick google search is q3 2024 and EQ made almost 20 million USD. How much is THJ making?

I dont care enough to deep dive and look.

With the request to seal case documents denied by the court, we will eventually see a figure of their takings of some kind. Might be motivation for someone here to spin up the next target for DBG???

Some dates from the court docs:

Preliminary Injunction:
(1) Plaintiff’s moving papers must be filed no later than July 16, 2025.
(2) Defendants’ opposition must be filed no later than July 30, 2025.
(3) Defendants’ reply must be filed no later than August 6, 2025. Oral argument for the Motion shall be heard on August 12, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., in Courtroom 12B.

"Tech" is a bloodbath right now. One bad quarter (especially if they have a pretty solid "trendline" over the past X years) is going to start making the suits ask.."Wtf?".

There's really no other explanation for why the fuck they let EMUs exist for as long as they have without litigating jack and shit. Somehow, a few months after a complete dud of a TLP, EMUs are suddenly a problem?

THJ gets to keep running but has to place any revenue not used to keep the lights on in am escrow account. Also they have to report all cash to DB each week.

They're also taking the source code, so live EQ might get better.
