I should rephrase. Why would they continue to give them money now. The server is RIP. You are "donating" to a blackhole.

Almost every tlp eq player is also playing on a black hole. Nearly everyone playing these servers are investing into characters they will not be playing in a few years and they know it. Guilds like roi and faceless actually going to live and staying strong in live raiding are far and away the exceptions; nearly everyone abandons their characters at some point and they know they will.

Do the people here who played on servers like mischief feel bad if they paid for subs and then quit? Bags, station items, etc? I spent over a hundred in addition to sub costs on selo for bags, clicks, overseer. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there in both guilds I played in. I haven't touched that cleric in years.

90% of my video games are also black holes. I might never play baldurs gate 3 again; it was a great game and money well spent.

So what if thj is likely gonna be closed by the courts eventually? If you're having fun now, have fun, and don't feel bad about spending on a temporary hobby.

This. Never go into a video game looking for longevity. If you think its worth the cost(one time or not) and its fun for YOU, play till its you no longer have fun or no longer able to(whatever the cause). Like most entertainment, its temporary.

This is exactly why I have never played on a TLP. I do have a 60 character on P99. It's very much a blackhole too. Thankfully I don't play a Mage or a Ranger so their their epic can be farmed out for RMT.

They are smart, lay low, and host in countries that wont even accept a lawsuit.

seriously, THJ could have make money for years if they just didnt host the shit in a jurisdiction that cares.

Blizzard is also despite sucking for a decade, a very profitable company with many streams of income.

DBG has EQ and thats it. The rest of their portfolio probably doesnt pay the rent on their office.

Exactly. They could easily host in Iceland or another country free from the reach of Uncle Sam and the rapacious legal system here.

TAKP has all of 45 people online right now and we never advertised our server anywhere because it was a preservation project and not a money making endeavor. TAKP has always had a low population problem which was kind of depressing for me because I thought the project was very successful in regards to accuracy. Daybreak could turn Al'Kabor back on and kill our server overnight if they wanted. (please do) Anyway I haven't gotten a donation in a couple of years. That's long over.

If monetization is your goal then you'll do things to attract as many players as possible, like advertise all over the place. The other emus don't do this. (p2002 aside) Also if you're getting paid significant amounts for your emu (enough to pay rent), you can devote much more time to it which increases the quality which makes it stand out against servers that don't monetize which makes it a bigger threat to Daybreak. You can praise THJ for being well-made but it's a hell of a lot easier to make a good server if you're getting revenue from it.
TAKP is an amazing server and the community isn’t toxic in the traditional EQ sense but it is very insular and there is a strong “we don’t want new players” vibe there. Reading the whining on the forums when Elroz was doing the TAKP TLP was awful, and then they hamstring the TLP just to appease the TAKP players who won’t even play on the server. Killed in its cradle.

i've been into street fighter since it was in the arcades

counterstrike since it released on early steam, which people absolutely hated

i still enjoy board and card games

these are the endless MMO's, you don't build skill on your character, you improve your own real life skills

just look at online FIFA pro players, they can absolutely destroy people that have a team that is A+ with an F tier team based on muscle memory, faster thinking and a lot of automatisms

looks like - Q1 2025 - 20m USD revenue....~ $3m USD EBITDA ..

They also got 300 employees LOL - doing what ?
20mil in a single quarter means they have over 500k players paying 12.95 a month or whatever sub, which is patently false.

They have like 3k subs, all whales, spending 750 a month in Kronos or whatever the daybreak cash shop currency is?

Or are they straight up lying. Hopefully they push for the real financials in discovery

Of course this is how the game works. Eve online was the first company to realize you could monetize your whole game by having an official path for poors to slave labor for their subs at the largesse of the non poors.

Are you actually retarded? You think they have 3000 subs? They’ve had servers over 3000 concurrent. With communities over 10k non concurrent. Those are just single servers out of the 15 or so they run. That doesn’t even count MTX & expansion sales.

My guild on Teek had 1000 humans apply pre launch.

Ok sure, how many subs do you think eq has? 10k? 20k? It sure as fuck isn't 500k. So its a handful of boomer retard whales spending hundreds a month on Kronos over to Chinese bot farms ran by daybreak gm's themselves?

Anyone playing eq deserves what they get

You realize that probably includes when they sell packages for TLPs, expansions, exp pots and all the other crap in their little store? Its not just subs. Also realize that the majority of EQ players are probably not just paying for 1 account. And I would assume consuming a krono is given some value of revenue for them.

Its funny to watch you rant and rave, did they cheat on you or something? All this misplaced rage.

As a side note: As a current EQ player, I am getting exactly what I deserve. So many hours of entertainment for a cheap ass $12.99 a month. Thank you for your concern.

I have no idea what you are talking about? There is no rage, only questions,it is you faggots getting super defensive lol. I guess it strikes a nerve calling you whales?

Someone quoted eq is making 20mil a quarter. That is insane. I do not believe it. I was asking how they got to those figures. Its either 500k subscribers and little to no cash shop/p2w which is patently false, eq never hit 500k even in its heyday, or its a much much smaller figure for subs with a lot of whale like behavior.

Eq has somewhere between 3k and 20k subs? Idk, I'm only going off the recent YouTube videos comparing player bases between live and the various emus. No matter what that number is, each sub has to spending 300-750 dollars a month in cash shop on top of their sub for it to come out to 20mil a quarter/6.6mil per month.

You are probably right that each live player is paying for multiple accounts, thst was true even back during kunark and especially velious whenever a player quit, a guildy took over their account, especially clerics, the entire cheal chain was just a bot macro army.

That means there are probably only a few thousand eq players left each with 3-6 accounts so every player that thj "steals" that's the loss of ~5 subs but also 2k a month in Kronos that 1 player was spending. That's really the only reason I could see them going after thj so hard after decades of letting emus slide or with handshake agreements.

Im basing the krono/bot farmer angle on feedback from you guys, the players, thats all you complain about on live/tlp servers.

I haven't played eq since 2001, and the only emu I ever played was thj from launch through luclin, the moon expansion killed the game for me back in the day and on thj.

Edit: for the record, before the 20mil a quarter got posted here, I said that thj should buy the ip from day break because thj was making 100k a month and I believed that daybreak could only be making maybe 50k a month and the entire ip could only be worth maybe 200k, so thj could outspend spend them. I had no idea you idiots were buying so much fucking krono.
