The Joker Origin Story On Deck: Todd Phillips, Scott Silver, Martin Scorsese Aboard WB/DC Film

So the clowns at WB finally get a well received DC franchise movie under their belt and it's back to form falling over themselves getting out of the car at center ring. This has the smell of slapping a big name like Scorsese to it just to build interest. And the kicker from that article:

This will be the first film under a new banner that has yet to be named in which WB can expand the canon of DC properties and create unique storylines with different actors playing the iconic characters.

So they're going to have multiple cinematic universes running concurrently or at the very least one universe and a string of stand alones fishing for more traction than the main saga can muster. Obviously they're not really satisfied with what they've got going but they're just not sure about what they should replace it with. Why they think combining two bad plays of a) another origin story and b) demystifying a character like the Joker is the move to make is beyond me.

maybe there is an internal bet if someone can make a joker worse than jared leto

Matt Reeves on ‘The Batman’: “It’s a standalone, this isn’t part of the extended universe”
“When they approached me, what they said was: ‘look, it’s a standalone, this isn’t part of the extended universe,” Reeves said. He also confirmed that he has an idea for a trilogy in his head. Reeves said he’s “totally fine” not making a Batman movie if Warner Bros. doesn’t want to make the movie that he wants to make. So far, though, he said he and WB have been on the same page.

Reeves comments about The Batman not being part of an extended universe are interesting. Yesterday, we learned that Warner Bros. will be launching a new brand of DC Comics movies that will be separate from their current DC Extended Universe. Right now they’re working on a Joker movie that won’t star Jared Leto.

And the thing about the Joker is they're not going to make anything with anyone that doesn't have to exist in Heath Ledger's shadow. Rather than just accepting that they got lucky with a perfect casting and a once in a lifetime performance they continue to run around with their bottle trying to catch that same lightning again.

Move the fuck on already. Maybe you can find a perfect Riddler or Peguin. On the other hand they did screw the pooch on Lex Luther so ...

Seriously, what is their plan here? Are they trying to reboot the movie continuity without saying they're doing so? Are they going to have two separate cinematic universes running in parallel? Is it going to be Justice League sequels in one continuity, with every solo film going forward being completely separate, with different actors?

It's like, after having seen success with Wonder Woman, they had to dive back into their shit-stained comfort zone by finding an even bigger way to fuck up than simply making a bad movie.

Matt Reeves, 'The Batman' will never be made.

I wouldn't consider Affleck's departure a sign of that. Supposedly there is a cadre of executives within WB that have always wanted and continue to want Armie Hammer for the role.

We're talking Warner Brothers here. They've been slow rolling Affleck out of the role since BvS and I agree that he was far from being what was wrong with that movie.

He and Gal Gadot were the best aspects of the movie.

DC Villain 'Deathstroke' Movie in the Works from 'The Raid' Director

Ok they started off lining up Deathstroke to be the big bad in the Affleck solo Batman movie. Enter Matt Reeves and that was thrown into limbo. So now they want to make a solo Deathstroke movie?

If they could make a dime every time they slung shit at the wall to see what sticks they could get out of the movie business fat and happy.

The story after that lol

It's for a streamed show and not the movies but they put out a few shots of some of the characters in costume for the live action Teen Titans show they have in the works.
