Has someone commented on the similarities between a few points in the game and the movie? Like the robot eye and the monsters that come in the rain.

So I’m in Iceland right now. This place had to be the place death stranding was modeled after. It is SO similar to the landscapes. :) even the road signs and a random locker tower with a light on it in the middle of no where 😂

So last night winding down did some digging. I never really followed the development that much but it really does appear Hideo used Iceland for the backdrop and ideas for the world component. Which is pretty cool so since I am here we went full Sam Porter IRL hiking through it 😀

Whenever I see this game I just think of it as one of the most modern artsy video games ever made. Like this is the video game equivalent of some modern art performance that just looks like someone's insane bullshit while the modern art crowd calls it the usual buzzwords like "stunning and brave." Like the critics seem to love it and it's got rave reviews from fans of the artist but that's gotta be a part of how niche of a crowd it appeals to.

I mean I could just never get into it. As a Metal Gear fan this was the game where I just finally said "I'm over it" when it comes to Kojima. Like I loved MGS 1-3, 4 was a game I could never love, just far too much cutscene focus for my taste, and 5 was a bit of a mess in the end but at least it provided a lot of great gameplay. With this though it just feels like Kojima having his worst self-indulgence into his artsy statement bullshit, like taking all the shit I hated about MGS4 but doubling down and combining it with gameplay that initially looks interesting but winds up feeling more like a chore.

It's like I gave up on it when I tried to play it initially back when it released on PS4, and any time I tried to get back into it I was always like "what is this bullshit" before long. Feels like trying to get into some critically acclaimed TV show that just doesn't do anything for me. One of those things where I could just never see what all the fuss is about, always seemed artsy and pretentious to me.

I am so fucking hyped, the first one is one of my favorites game of all time if not my favorite. There’s just something that connected with me with the game. I played it 3 times.

This looks to the be more of the same but improved in every way.

Game is downloaded, controllers are charged, bought some snacks and I’m on vacation for a week and half.

I’m ready. :)

I should be back home from Cuba around 11pm-Midnight and depending on how tired I am I might start playing right away.

Gonna roll slow, 5-Star everyone, build all the roads, do all the things as I go along.

Really looking forward to this. Hope the story is even more nonsensical and crazy than the first was. I don’t give a shit about video game stories in the first place so this series being a bunch of weird sci-fi gibberish is kind of fun for me.

Still concerned that they are going to pull a bait and switch with the main character though and have you playing as not Norman Reedus (Catch Ride with Norman Reedus, only on AMC) and instead shoehorn you into the Mexican. Like they did with MGS2 with having you play that faggot Raiden.

Whatever though, I am all in either way.

the narrative around this game is so weird, i've heard people who generally like games i like describe the game as extremely boring or extremely immersive and great. it really feels like one of those games where you have to play it to know if you'd like it or not, like RDR 2 or FF7 remake

Did not like the first game, but really wanted to like it. Just couldn't enjoy the gameplay loop. Will the new game be more of the same?
