If evga or whoever launches an OC card that actual puts out a 50% performance gain over a 980 ti? Hnnnnnngggg time to go spend money.

That chart that Mist posted of the OC'd 1080 had it at 63% faster than a stock 980ti

I kinda think OC benchmarks are a tad ridiculous though, because they never compare OC to OC, they compare OC to other stock cards. Well, if you're going to OC your 1080, you'd probably OC a 980Ti, in which case the stock-to-stock comparison is probably very similar to the OC-to-OC comparison.

I'd have to assume that if a stock 1080 is 25% faster than a stock 980Ti, that an OC'd 1080 is going to be about 25% faster than a OC'd 980Ti as well.

As an owner of a 980ti, this looks quite good from a generational improvement. But there's nothing out there game wise that demands I upgrade as VR still isn't a real thing.

There's no way $649 or whatever is worth a 25% increase over my 980Ti, not even if I could eBay it for $250 and pay the difference.

If it has more substantial gains at 1440p and greater, maybe I'd consider it.

Odds are, we'll see a 1080Ti probably Q1 of 2017, and it may be a pretty significant leap over the 980Ti...I mean, look at the jump from 980 to 980Ti, it was significant.

Yea that's the likely upgrade course for most 980ti owners I'd wager. Unless as above there are some HUGE gains in real world 1440p performance it'll be waiting for the TI edition for a lot of us.

I'm expecting to be back on the cycle skip that I abandoned when I switched from a 290 to the 980.

So whatever comes after 1080 should be amazeballs.

I am still rocking a 690 and a 1440p monitor. With DX12 being what it is, Nvidia basically killed sli/crossfire by leaving it up to the devs to implement. To date, none have. So I may wait for the 1080ti big pascal chip and be done with it. Downsize to a MITX setup.

Nope, your chip is about to melt, even idling. You better start pouring LN2 on it if you want it to survive.

This regular at my bar last night said, "Hey you're a wireless engineer, why does windows 10 tell me I have no internet protocols?!" I just took another shot.
haha fucking non tech people. I hate the team I work with. Hey Architect could you help us rewrite our policies for our windows 10 security baseline.

Honestly though, you could just hit the auto overclock button in your BIOS or set the voltages to Auto and bump the multiplier up to 44x without too much trouble. I'm really lazy and my 3570k is at 4.2ghz by just doing the latter. The extra 150-200mhz or so I could get out of this chip just isn't worth the time.
