Cheap ass motherboard and the 4 slots were filled with 512mb memory sticks, big whopping smoking fast athlo II lol. I think I spent a whopping $250 or so on the whole computer since it was just used to browse the web at my parents house. I have my own computer in another part of the house. I'm kind of surprised it lasted this long considering I saw a QC sticker on it from 2004.

yea i'm going to go with bad capacitor, considering the age and timeframe.

did you connect it to a USB header and use the corsair software?

Yup. Fans are set at medium-ish, pump on high. I found that even setting the fans to ridiculously loud seemed to hardly make a difference in temps, so I've just left them at a setting that makes them fairly quiet. Not sure if there's an issue with thermal paste, or airflow, but I was fairly disappointed with the cooling performance and noise, given it was my first water cooling setup.

However looking at this review, seems like my results are in the same ballpark, so maybe there's no issue and I was just expecting too much: Corsair Hydro H110i GTX High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler Review

Oh Jesus, that thing was a ticking time bomb due to pure age.

Yeah, got my moneys worth out of it lol. My dad used a computer from about 2000ish until about a year ago to run AutoCad 12 (not 2012) from about 1992 since it ran a program that was bitlocked with a hardware lock on the com port.

Not even sure the company makes computer parts anymore, it wasn't exactly top of the line when I put it together with pretty low expactations. Epox I think is what it said from what I could read.

A friend of mine is asking me me to build him a $1k-$1.5k system (preferably on the lower end) and this is my first pass. He's not a heavy gamer, I think the most taxing thing he plays is Diablo 3 and Skyrim, but he's going to keep the system for 4-5 years and doesn't want to worry much about upgrades until he replaces it.

I haven't built a system in a few years and this is the results of maybe 30 minutes of fucking around at work, so suggestions are very welcome.

ask him if ever, ever is even thinking about overclocking, if so a corsair closed loop is like 100ish bucks

don't forget a powersupply some corsair 700w should be enough for 60bucks

you could triple his hd to 3gb for double the cost, might be worthwhile

Shit, I forgot the power supply. That's what I get for doing this at work. As far as storage goes, he's got several HDs from the computer it's replacing if he needs more.

He's definitely not interested in OCing it ever, plus water cooling scares him. He doesn't want to ever have to tweak things or do any sort of maintenance beyond blowing dust out every once in a while.

My computer currently is dog shit but so is pretty much every game out so I don't feel like getting a brand new computer right now. However, after that new WoW update my computer is running WoW really bad which is pretty annoying. It prompt me that my video card was going to give me troubles running WoW - card and everything else is pretty much from 2012. Debating whether I should just buy a $100 card that can run WoW or just a whole new PC.
I'm currently pretty much just a casual gamer right as I mostly just play games in streaks so that's another reason idk if I feel like dropping all the money for a new computer

Give us your entire PC specs, and we can quickly tell if an easy graphics card update would solve your problems or if you're going to have massive bottleneck issues elsewhere as well.

build a new system. you could put something together for $500 that will vastly outperform that heap.

Yeah that's around how much this one was 4 years ago idk if my friend still has time to build em though. If I can't find anyone who does I may try a site like ibuypower or one of those

That is really overkill and over the top end of the budget, considering he has added speakers to the list. I wouldn't even buy an i7 for myself. The case might be a good option though and I hadn't thought about using a M.2 SSD. I doubt he'd notice the difference performance wise, but it's not much more.

I also wouldn't pay ~$450 for a 1070 for a "casual" gamer that is still playing mostly WoW. Slap a 1060 in there and save $200.

Downgrade to an i5, get an ASRock motherboard for $50 less than that asus, and go with the 1060 for a video card. Those 3 changes alone should get the budget back down to like $1100-$1200(the lower end if you have a Microcenter nearby to purchase the mobo/CPU). That PSU is overkill as well.
