Well I shut down everything, and it still didn't turn the monitor off after 10 minutes. Back to square one.

As for my Flicker, it hasn't happened again since Friday, but I found a video online. Another buddy of mine got the same screen at the same time and he used the stock cable and was getting bad flicker where the screen would go black. Mine does this:

But again, only on Friday's after I turn the screen on after being off for a while.
i said i was having the same issue w/ two 27 viewsonics. it was only on the "secondary" monitor. This is a docking station for a laptop, after going through a few different cables. I researched and the laptop might've been causing a "ground loop", so i had to take that monitor out of ground, i got a 3 prong to 2 prong adapter and no more flicker.

Not gonna say it'll work for you, but yea, that was my final solution. Also returned 4 various hdmi/dp/dvi cables to amazon, so awesome, you know you don't even have to print labels anymore? just bring it to ups and they QR scan it for you.

Seeing as it does it soon after being turned on and drawing power this sounds like an interesting fix! I'm sorry I didn't see it before.

Crone Crone Have you tried enabling/installing drivers for the IGPU on your motherboard and seeing if the monitor still does it while connected to that?
Seeing as I'm on the hunt for a 1080 Ti I'll be in a convenient spot to try this soon.

You don't even need to take your current card out or anything. You can have it and the IGPU setup at the same time. Just a matter of enabling it in bios and installing the drivers, and then physically connecting the monitor to it. This will only really work if it has a DP port capable of running it at high refresh though.

Wherever you get it from, you will not regret. I have one and it's the best money I've spent on PC upgrades in years.
I ended up ordering this and all the other stuff I had listed in my last build post. Should be getting most of it throughout the week. Ended up costing just about 3 grand, which is obviously way more than the $1k I estimated to begin with, but I decided this needs to last me a long time, so might as well spend it now while I have it. I don't anticipate buying anything else for at least another 5 years besides maybe another monitor and some hard drives.

I think this is the final list. It was all purchased from Amazon or Newegg though, despite what some of the links might say. The difference on almost all of them was minimal, and I'd rather keep it consolidated.

I've never overclocked, so hopefully I can learn that fairly easily. I figure with all these fans, shit better stay cool too!

Pricy for sure, but you picked some good stuff that should serve you well. Enjoy the new build.

Oc'ing is super easy, albeit time consuming to get it all dialed in.

There are no shortages of games or tasks that require single threaded performance. Not oc'ing is choosing to gimp yourself for no reason, and actively throwing money away if you've paid the premium for an unlocked CPU.

It wasn't directly targeted at you, just something that needs to be said as there is a shocking number of people who are adverse to the idea of oc'ing for no reason. Its been something I've seen time after time. Gotta help steer people away from that.

That aside, I have an 8700k and trust me, oc'ing is needed, especially with a high refresh monitor. I run into as many CPU bottlenecks than I do GPU

I don't know if it matters to you but just a heads up, I'm pretty sure that SSD isn't NVMe. I think that one is just uses the SATA bus, but just has an M.2 form factor.
So limited to 550 MB/s instead of 3.2 GB/s reads.
Hmm. I mean, it probably doesn't really matter, but that was sort of my whole point in getting the M.2 form factor in the first place, as this case has convenient mounting for 2 standard 2.5" drives otherwise.
Can you recommend a replacement perhaps? I'm not averse to returning this one and using a better one, if it isn't vastly more expensive.

EDIT: Samsung - 970 Evo 500 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive (MZ-V7E500BW) - PCPartPicker seems to be what I would want instead?

EDIT 2: Actually, cheaper and newer at Amazon:

I'm going to be flashing my Vega 56 to a 64 and OC'ing the shit out of it lol. Hopefully I get a good one.

Should be fairly safe to do as long as the card has a bios switch. Please share the results. I don't think there is a Vega 64 bios that will work on my Red Dragon 56. I must live vicariously.

Thoughts? Am I missing anything obvious?

I've never done liquid cooling before but I hear it's more and more easy than it used to be.

The all in one kits are extremely easy. Took me an hour to put mine in...That's with a bad (but cool looking) case design for wiring.
