Looks like the 13900K is a heat pumping power hungry CPU.

Everything is going to be hot when you run it with unlimited turbo at peak load. The CPU will run at maximum power for as long as it can without throttling, which is never if your cooling solution is adequate.

That is not the same thing as saying that the CPU will run hot all the time. A 13900k will actually use substantially less power doing the same work that a 12900K was doing at its peak load:

So it's all a matter of perspective. It is fantastically efficient at doing the same work that the prior gen was doing at a much higher power level. But it has the ability to boost and maintain even higher levels of power to run less efficiently but generate substantially more performance.

Yeah let's see the 13700k reviews.

The 12700k was crazy value when you could buy it under $345.

Ended up snagging a 13600k after watching some more reviews. Hopefully get it tomorrow and see how it performs

The problem with any of those displays is that Windows can still get weird while using any type of adaptive sync and multiple displays with multiple refresh rates.

That's why I actually moved to MouseWithoutBorders and separate computers to power my secondary and tertiary displays.

AM4 was both the budget and high-performance platform. On the high-end side (at least single core/gaming) Intel 13th gen benches better then AM5, even if there is no real-world gaming difference between them. On the budget side, Intel 13th gen is a drop-in upgrade for many with exsting DDR4 mobos. Posters all over were talking about upgrading their 2000 and 3000 Zen CPUs to 5000 series and existing 5000 users wanting to move up the stack. Factor in that AM5 needs a full platform upgrade and the 5800X3D still trades blows with AM5 and Intel 13th gen, and no one should be surprised.

I do think AMD made a couple of PR mistakes with AM5. The 6c/12t model 7600x should just be the value baseline model at $200-$250. The 13600k is $300 for 6p / 8e / 20t and as we all know, 20 threads are better then 12. Intel is doing to AMD what AMD did to Intel - offer more cores/threads for the same or even less money. The other mistake is two-fold - keeping AM4 cooler compatility and thus the extra think IHS and pairing that with the default 95c behavior. While technically fine, it just goes against established convention. It's essentially the same behavior as the 5800X3D - the vcache hinders heat transfer between the cores and IHS so the cores run hot and thermal throttle out of the box.

The simple answer to overcome the design flaws of current AM5 is to just wait for 3D AM5 where that 'flaw' is baked in and expected.

I think many are waiting for the X3D AM5 CPUs, and the initial platform costs means no sense in buying into it yet only to swap the CPU is a few months. The extra L3 cache was such a huge boost for performance that one wonders (besides cost/yields) why it wasn't included on every AM5 CPU. VCache should be AMDs perk compared to Intels E-Cores.

I will say the 5800X3D is a boring chip to tweak/tune with the typical suite of BIOS tuning parameters all disabled. Mine runs at -30 CO on all cores and I cap PPT, TDC, and EDC at 125w, 80A, and 115A. Now, whichever bench/stress test I run it hits a limit somewhere between 85-90C while still boosting clocks as high as I could get them (with a LF2 360 or NH-D15 - tried both).

Who cares if it's boring? lol. It just needs to perform.

At this point I want boring shit that just works as long as I choose all my parts correctly and use the right cooling solution.

Seems like if youre concerned or want good efficiency the 5800X3D is a better chip.
Not sure where you get that from those numbers. Also the 5800X3D is really only good at one thing and the 13600K is way cheaper and in most cases as good.

Dollar for dollar, watt for watt, the 13600K tuned properly is probably the best, though if the 13700K ends up selling for unusually low like the 12700K did, that might be better.

But the 3D 7000 series chips are likely going to be interesting.

So, I am a PC noob but am in the market to get a new one. Most I do with my pc is play WoW, GW2 and D2R. Seen this set up for a few hundred under my budget but as I said I dont know shit about pcs so was hoping to get some input from you guys.....

CPU: Intel Core i5-11400F (6C / 12T, 2.6 / 4.4GHz, 12MB)
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER 6GB GDDR6
RAM: 1x 8GB UDIMM DDR4-3200
Storage: 256GB PCIe SSD + 1TB HDD 7200RPM
Ports (front): 2 x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 1 x Headphone 1 x Microphone
Ports (rear): 2 x USB-A 2.0 2 x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 3 x Audio out (5.1 Channel) 1 x USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 1 x Ethernet (RJ-45) 1 x Power Connector
Connectivity: Wi-Fi 6 802.11ax 2x2 + Bluetooth 5.1

basically that set up for 850 bucks. Im sure it will run the games I mentioned but is it worth the price?
Am on a fixed budget so 1000 is about max I can do.

Someone else will do a better job then I could but I imagine you can get a much beefier system for your target budget.
