is a heatsink necessary for a nvme drive? Im not overclocking or running a max machine.
realistically no, unless youre a data center working that nvme every hour for sustained amount of time.

if you have a smaller case or a ps5, then yes, b/c of the enclosed space, but then

i have 3 nvmes in my systems now i run heatsink less
1. they didn't come w/ one
2. i misplaced the heatsink that came w/ the mb

What Lanx said - I’m running two in my PC with no heat sinks and temps have always looked good. Bought a heat sink for the one in my PS5 though.

Needed for the PS5 due to the tiny space with little airflow.

The NAND chips in NVME drives actually work better at warmer temps, but the controller performance drops as it heats up.

I imagine they're still selling ones with old firmware. People might want to check with the retailer just to be sure
in america they are practically dumping 980 2tb now, i snagged mine for 120$ but it hovers at 160$ now

The 5B2QGXA7 firmware is over a year old, even if you bought from last summer or Black Friday it should come with the firmware already (mine did). Yet most news stories about bricking didn't happen until a couple months ago, basically when earlier drives that never got updated had X amount of time elapse before they developed critical issues.

My Arctic Freezer AIO is starting to make watery bubbling noises. I'm guessing it has lost some water and starting to pump air. Kinda disapointed it only lasted like 2 years if even that.

Ordered a cheapo air cooler now. Thermalright Peerless Assassin. Seems to get good reviews despite it's low price.

It's pretty trivial to open it up and add more fluid. My LFII 360 was one of the ones with the bad gaskets that would deteriorate and the fix was easy. You could just buy some fluid and remove the cold plate so you can refill it.

tech jesus reviewed it, as good as high end d15, it's also 1/3 the price

it's in line w/ the new releases of cheaper, same performance heatsinks like the ak620 (which i have on a 3800x)

I bet thats going to be one good looking build after its all together. I personally would go for a 1000 watt just for longevity. But it looks good regardless.

Something is inherently flawed in those, so Im still on the fence about them myself. Regardless of the firmware update.

maybe go for a platinum or titanium too, it's minor but it adds to efficiency (power usage)and longer lasting
