it's got that faux wood retro look ppl are fawning over, fans are even bigger and more updated qol (psu can turn 90degrees)

Rotating the PSU like that almost always makes the thermals worse, at least in cases with vented basements and midplate fans. That hot air just ends up recirculating into the case.

It actually does since the bottom is vented side as well for GPU air draw, the psu hot air gets drawn in, saw smoke test

My new WD SN8100s came, but im suddenly too lazy to put them in. However i saw that new Stellar Blade PC port video and decided it will be the first game i install on these.

I think my SN850x is is like 7500mb/s? So these being 14900mb/s should be crazy. Everything is going to load a whole second quicker!!!!

Good thing I ordered all that computer shit the other day. My computer really took a giant shit last night. At first it was only a blue screen every once in awhile, but last night it quickly turned into a reboot loop. I eventually could get it to boot into safe mode multiple times and did shit like memory tests, sfc, rolling back nvidia drivers, even restore point to about a month ago. Nothing worked, and now it is stuck in a reboot loop I can't get out of because it is trying to run the System Repair utility every time, even when I tell it to boot into safe mode.

Not looking for troubleshooting help at this point, just summarizing how thankful I am that I ordered that shit. I'm hopeful that a USB stick boot will allow me to get everything off of it, and then just do a total fresh windows install, as it is likely a driver issue, but if not I will just take each hard drive out and plug it into the new one and copy whatever I need off of it. I'd like to use this computer as my "new" Plex box to replace the 2014 machine that is currently doing that job, but we'll see. I'm not going to stress too much until the new one is built if the USB boot doesn't work. Unfortunately a couple of key items, like the case, won't be here until Monday. I don't know how I'm going to face a weekend without a computer!

technically you don't "need" a case, i'm sure a few of us have just built a computer on cardboard boxes. sure nowadays it's "iffy" cuz the videocards are so chonky, you at least want to mount the video cards to some pcie cage.

i mean i actually have this for my treadmill machine, it's wall mounted w/ a monitor arm(i made the mounts work)

my wife at first got freaked out cuz it was the old phenom2 w/ the bigboy darkrock4 cpu cooler, but it works (i mean i should have mounted it on the wall where the tv is at, but i wanted it on the wall where the treadmill is at for troubleshooting) (i mean it's out of the way and shes short anyway, so it's not like she'll even see it, like i will)

I probably would have done something like that for the weekend, except the power supply and the processor didn't show up either, so yeah.

I made a boot stick with windows 10 on it to see if I can repair the existing computer in the meantime, since I can't do shit with the new one over the weekend.

Kind of annoyed I WFHed today because ups said the GPU would be here, and big surprise they let me down again. Either way I built the PC and it posted first time so I got that going for me.

Don't mind the pcie cables just sadly waiting.

The rest of my items are supposed to show up today (I have everything delivered to work for convenience, and incentive to come into work!) and just half an hour ago I got an email saying that the power supply wouldn't be here for weeks. So I had to order the 1000W version with free same day delivery for $169. Not the end of the world or anything, but still annoying that they can't fucking tell me until the day it is supposed to arrive. You probably got the one I was supposed to get!

8GB = no bueno.

Agree.

It's becoming a real problem now, and many review sites do not test it properly. Often, VRAM limitations will only show up 5, 10, or 30+ minutes into gameplay. If the review just uses an in-game benchmark, the VRAM bottleneck doesn't show. If the review doesn't look at frame pacing (i.e. frame lag or stutering), then small instances of VRAM overflow might not be noticed if just looking at average FPS.

In addition, features like DLSS and MFG require more VRAM than native rendering to work. IOW, the cards that need those FPS features more are not specced to them. Here is a direct 8GB vs 16GB test between the 5060ti in Doom Dark Ages*. Same goes for Ray Tracing (needs more VRAM), but generally 8GB cards are not fast enough at RT to really matter. The best example card with this issue might be the 3070. It's 8GB of VRAM limits its usefulness today. The 16GB 6800 from AMD was slower when both of these cards were newer, but as newer games were released it is now (and has been for a while) the faster card if you are running anything but potato graphic settings.

Graphics options and resolution can be turned down to compensate for 8GB VRAM, but it almost all cases the GPU core itself isn't being fully utlized when this is done.

*Doom Dark Ages does have a setting that can be changed to help 8GB models, but most games do not. There are plenty of 4060ti 8GB vs 16GB benchmarks out there that also show VRAM limits clearly.

Anyone ever buy their Windows license from PC World? Saw something the other day about it, and now that I'm hopefully going to have all the pieces tonight I'll need it, and this is way fucking cheaper. Sure I can go the Reddit route and buy from someone that has an enterprise license or such, but for this price ($80) I'd rather just have a legit (albeit OEM) key.

Anyone have any experience with it? I checked around and everyone seems to say it is legit, they just buy in bulk and OEM price for way less than others do.

Even 12GB would be "respectable" as a budget alternative. But 8GB is basically DOA, unless you just plan to play nothing but 2D, 16 bit games or 10-15 year old 3D ones.
I bought a RTX 5070 12 GB for $550 earlier this year, but ended up returning it to best buy unopened. It was an impulse purchase, but $550 is more than Im willing to spend on a graphics card. Just have bigger priorities than to upgrade a gpu.

Should be fine. I'm sure more than a few of us bought keys off Reddit and other sites. If you look around can probably find it cheaper than what you listed.

Been going to Guru3d.com forever and they always list this site for keys. Can use code GURU30 for a bit more of a discount.
