I am in the top 25% of Americans, but I am pretty strict with my budget. I have no debt but my mortgage, and Im currently saving up to buy our next house (aiming for a $100k downpayment).
well youre finding out that 8gb is basically end of life and 12gb is not gonna be any better at future proofing, so 16gb or more

Anyone ever buy their Windows license from PC World? Saw something the other day about it, and now that I'm hopefully going to have all the pieces tonight I'll need it, and this is way fucking cheaper. Sure I can go the Reddit route and buy from someone that has an enterprise license or such, but for this price ($80) I'd rather just have a legit (albeit OEM) key.

Anyone have any experience with it? I checked around and everyone seems to say it is legit, they just buy in bulk and OEM price for way less than others do.

I used vip-scdkey for my last one. Worked fine, no complaints, cost $23.46.

Should be fine. I'm sure more than a few of us bought keys off Reddit and other sites. If you look around can probably find it cheaper than what you listed.

Been going to Guru3d.com forever and they always list this site for keys. Can use code GURU30 for a bit more of a discount.
Have you bought from this site? That's a ridiculous deal, even before the 30% off. I looked around and the opinions of whether or not the site is legit is literally all over the place. Your own site, guru3d, someone said it is owned by China but just uses cheap keys bought internationally. I figure China probably already has all of my cc info, and they can't charge much more than what I've put on it already, so I'll probably risk it, but I'd be happier knowing you've used it before.

The rest of my items are supposed to show up today (I have everything delivered to work for convenience, and incentive to come into work!) and just half an hour ago I got an email saying that the power supply wouldn't be here for weeks. So I had to order the 1000W version with free same day delivery for $169. Not the end of the world or anything, but still annoying that they can't fucking tell me until the day it is supposed to arrive. You probably got the one I was supposed to get!
Oh shit dude same thing happened to me! I actually drove to our local best buy and they had the rm850x in stock.

Never used it personally but I put a lot of good faith in guru3d.com. Quick googlefu shows a lot of good reviews and positive replies to people asking if its scammy. I got my windows keys off random Reddit threads and that site seems way more legit than that.

If you are extra paranoid do the MAS for a Win8 or Win10, then free upgrade to Win11 and it generates a new key unrelated to the original.

As far as Windows goes. Just use the tool Microsoft themselves use when keys don't work

Wait. Is this just free? Am I missing something?

Yea MAS works. You can now download the windows installation iso directly from Microsoft too, don't even need to sail the seas for it anymore. Microsoft would like you to you pay retail, but failing that they definitely prefer that you pirate windows rather than allow any sort of penguin-shaped alternative to become widespread enough to challenge them.

Get Windows 10 LTSC IoT, best current version of windows available. No ads, no MS store, no win 11 UI crap, support until 2032

I got mine set up last night, but it was too late to do anything but install Windows and make sure everything seemed ok.

Major complaint I have about every manufacturer these days, not just computer-related, is that no one gives you a fucking manual in the box anymore. It's all, go to our website! Fuck you, I'm building a computer so there is a good chance I can only view your website on my phone right now, and I just paid hundreds of dollars for your shit...print out a fucking manual and put it in the box! I fucked up and forgot to plug some shit in after putting the water cool radiator in because there was no manual reminding me until I scoured through the one on my phone, so I had to take the whole fucking radiator back off to get to it. Except that later I discovered that 2 fucking screws could have allowed me to just detach the whole piece and reach the plugs I needed. Because *if* they give you a manual, it is still only half-assed (LianLi) and doesn't show as much as the full one that is online shows.

On the other hand, props to LianLi for giving me a super-handy little parts box with movable dividers and shit! Best thing I got out of all this shit, except for the working computer I guess. That box made it so much easier to keep shit where I needed it during setup.

Not too enthused about the graphics card literally completely covering all the sata plug-ins for when I decide to add/transfer over some of those from my old computer. I might have to take the card out completely to even reach them.

Also, this motherfucker is HEAVY. As mentioned I decided to go with water cooling (Arctic III or whatever one Lanx was promoting earlier in the thread), and this whole PC has got to easily be over 50 lbs. That's with ZERO mechanical drives, not even SSDs.

Still, seems amazing and I'm sure I'll be really happy with it.

Thanks for the MAS thing for Windows too, worked like a charm!

I think the Fractal NorthXL packing was the best out of my new build, also. It came with a very clear "Quick Start" guide for fan placement options including AIO set ups or air. All the boxes were clearly labeled and individually packaged for screws and accessories. It was just well done.
