It's surprisingly quiet. Honestly thought it was going to end up sounding like a spaceship taking off when I fired it up. It's nice to be able to put everything on ultra though. Rogue Trader was stuttering in any sort of cutscene, but now it's smooth as silk. I just didn't realize how old and outdated my other computer was, but it's definitely a night and day difference.

This is the “trap” I fall into, start to do an incremental upgrade and then figure I might as well do a whole build because either the wife or the kid could use a hand me down upgrade or we need a media PC for one of our half dozen TVs.

We're replacing our server with just a big PC, because we no longer do any of the shit the server originally did, and now it is pretty much just a big fileserver.
Long story short, my boss is so excited about how much less it will cost for this vs. what we've paid on actual servers in the past. So he let me go overboard ($400) on the case, even though we don't close to needing it, even if we increased our disk usage by a factor of 100. Fuck it, it isn't in a climate controlled room like it should be, so I wanted as many fans as possible.
So I got a Thermaltake AX700, which is fucking huge. You can see the specs here: AX700 Super Tower Chassis
It is the one with glass on one side. I didn't want it, but the other one was several weeks backordered. Anyway, I bought all the fucking fans in the world, and now I'm trying to decide which direction to point them all. Here is a diagram of where they all can go. The top is going to be the CPU water-cooler radiator, so scratch those. All fans are 140mm too.
From looking at the case, it appears that the two on the bottom will not be in the power supply area, so despite my misgivings about pulling in dust (it has dust covers at least), I think those should pull into the case. Front obviously pulls in. Back will exhaust, as will the radiator on top. That leaves the side fans (remember, one side is glass so they will all be on one side). If I have them all exhaust, is that too much? By my count, before the side fans and not counting the PSU in/out, I'll have 5 in (3 front, 2 bottom) and 4 out (3 top, 1 rear).
If I have all 8 side fans exhaust (or intake for that matter), isn't my airflow imbalanced? I mean, I got a degree in Aeronautical Engineering about a century ago, so I'm not completely unfamiliar with this shit, but I don't think splitting the side fans is smart either. Seems like I might get a lot of turbulent flow, which is bad. But if I make all 8 the same, I feel like having them exhaust is safer than having them intake? Or am I wrong?
What would you guys suggest? Besides "don't use all the fans, dumbass!" I bought them, I'm gonna use them! Besides, even 4 on the side still puts the balance way out of whack, just not as much as 8.

i have a tt500 so the design is the same
as in, it's kinda shit w/ the "possibilities" of cooling but not really
first off, youre not going to use the bottom 2 fans, i mean you might? but you will have to sacrifice at least 2 hdd trays, (so why bother buying such a huge case)
also the 8 fans on the side? half are worthless b/c 4 will not be pulling any air b/c it will be directly behind the motherboard. (which is also where they will put 4 slots for ssds)

I thought we had a thread on office chairs, but maybe it was just a derail here? In either case, does anyone have a recommendation for an office chair that will be comfortable for 6-8 hour stints and won't wear out in a year? Needs to have good butt padding for someone 230 pounds. My current home office chair looks great (old-timey traditional thing our grand parents would have) but has turned to concrete and my butt is sore after 30 minutes.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good office + gaming chair? I've been buying these piece of shit chairs from Sams Club that, while seem great at the store, end up destroying my back. Price-wise I'm looking at around the $500 mark being fine. I've been eyeing the DXRacer chairs, but...

No recs on chairs. I've tried a lot, and returned a bunch. Top end gaming chairs to standard Office Depot shit. None of them suited me.The market is filled with the same chairs from the same factories, and ALL of them suck.
If you otherwise like your chair, try a latex cushion. I have 1-inch medium density cushion on mine, and it's fine. I might switch up to a 2-inch heavy density foam.

If you don't mind spending for quality, get a 24 hour operator chair. We use these in our control room at work and someone's in them 24 hours a day with all the adjustment and abuse that entails and they stand up to that for years. I got one for my house, it was really expensive (nearly €2k) but feels like it should last forever in home use. Did the "new server, play for 16 hours straight" thing in it and it was comfortable the entire time.
Don't see my exact model on a US market site on google but this looks very similar.

The first job I had my chair for working at the computer all day was a hand me down from the owner. It was an execcutive type chair for lack of a better description. It was incredibly comfortable. The back wrapped around to the side some and if someone walked into the room they could not see me at all until I turned around. I wish I could find a chair like that again. It was also nice late in the day to take a nap. It was obvioiusly not designed for computer work and most likely was made before computers became a big thing.

Looking for some help which I assume is very easy but I'm having a hard time googling the right answer.
We're getting away from our aging server here at work and just going with a beefy computer that will essentially be a fileserver. So the domain policies and all that shit I barely understand will be going away.
There are a few folders on the new server that we will want to restrict to specific people. I'm running into a wall trying to figure that out.
Let's say I've got a folder called VoidNoodz, and I only want Void, LLR, and Brahma to be able to access it. The computer the folder is on is logged in under Admin, so when I try to give access to those names in the advanced sharing settings, it says they aren't found. Will I need to create user accounts for every single person I want to give access to on that computer? That seems laborious and wrong to me, but I can't think of any other way to do it without a domain controller keeping track of everyone's accounts.
Like I said, I'm sure it is something super simple, but I'm failing at it. Hopefully one of you knows.

i assume this is win10/11? have you put ppl in groups?
this is an easy how to make groups
just type "groups" from the start bar to get going
then to share your drive/folder, right click, goto advanced sharing
click on permissions
click add, and type in the new group name that you populated w/ users

Unfortunately that's not giving me the solution either, because he doesn't deal with the part that is giving me trouble. He is adding local users/guests to that group. I need to add people that will be accessing from a different computer on the network, with different usernames from the ones on this machine.
In my example, Admin is the account controlling the fileserver. Brahma is on a different computer on the network, logged in as Brahma on his machine. I am sharing a folder on the fileserver with him, but not everyone else. If I go to permissions, or groups (same interface) and Add User and try to enter Brahma, of course it doesn't work because he's not a user on this machine.
That's where I'm stuck. I doubt that making a Brahma account on the fileserver is how I'm supposed to do it, even if it would work (no idea). How do I let it know that someone named Brahma from a different machine has access?
I can password protect it, but that's gay. Maybe domains are the only way you get this level of access control? Seems silly if that's the case, but I'm hoping someone can tell me definitively.
