9950X3D2 Dual Edition reviews are starting to pop up. Performance is about what was expected (On par with an original 9950X3D, get a 9800 for pure gaming). I feel like this is AMD's last hurrah for Zen 5; while I am sure they will launch more binned CPUs, they have hit the limit for their 8 core CCD and weak memory controller. Intel's 270K+ is more that adequate for gaming, is much better priced, and generally beats AMD in multi-core workloads. By year's end, Intel should be launching their 52 core flagship with it's own 3Dv-cache (albeit with a 3 types of cores - high performance, efficiency, and low-power). It is as if the positions are reversed from the early Zen 1-3 days where AMD had better pricing, multi-core, and decent gaming versus the stale market leader in Intel.
eh when I get around to upgrading again , which will be a long ass time since shit is so fucking retarded, I'll see who is fastest and go from there. Intel burned a LOT of good will with those 13th & 14th gen CPUs but I've build intel PC's before and probably will again. Still loving my 7800X3D

Funky errors trying to test out the 9950X3D2...hope it's not a dud. Windows install took abut 50x longer than usual from a USB driver (think I fixed that in BIOS), cannot copy off of my external NVMe->USB C enclosure (transfers stall after a second or two and stay at 0 byte transfer speed) fucking cables, Windows update threw an error that something went wrong and that it was "trying a couple of things" but did continue and complete, r23 won't run, AMD driver installed but won't reinstall saying incompatible hardware found. Never seen this. Trying another fresh install. BIOS was updated to a version that supports the CPU prior to the swap.

edit: did another reinstall
edit 2: AMD GPU and chipset drivers appear to install via the "minimal" package that downloads on-the-fly as opposed to the two separate and full chipset and GPU driver packages.
edit 3: r23 launches - issue was tied to failed AMD GPU drivers and the file atig6pxx.dll missing or corrupt

What have you seen that suggests prices will eventually go down?

Looking to build up a good to high end PC that will last me for a good while. Don't really have a budget but thinking maybe 5k max? Would like to get in under that. I haven't kept up with tech at all since I bought my last PC like 4 years ago.

What are good specs that you would look for? Mostly going to be playing ARPG's and single player games with some adobe premier video editing on the side.

Start here, adjust as needed
