9950X3D2 Dual Edition reviews are starting to pop up. Performance is about what was expected (On par with an original 9950X3D, get a 9800 for pure gaming). I feel like this is AMD's last hurrah for Zen 5; while I am sure they will launch more binned CPUs, they have hit the limit for their 8 core CCD and weak memory controller. Intel's 270K+ is more that adequate for gaming, is much better priced, and generally beats AMD in multi-core workloads. By year's end, Intel should be launching their 52 core flagship with it's own 3Dv-cache (albeit with a 3 types of cores - high performance, efficiency, and low-power). It is as if the positions are reversed from the early Zen 1-3 days where AMD had better pricing, multi-core, and decent gaming versus the stale market leader in Intel.
eh when I get around to upgrading again , which will be a long ass time since shit is so fucking retarded, I'll see who is fastest and go from there. Intel burned a LOT of good will with those 13th & 14th gen CPUs but I've build intel PC's before and probably will again. Still loving my 7800X3D

Funky errors trying to test out the 9950X3D2...hope it's not a dud. Windows install took abut 50x longer than usual from a USB driver (think I fixed that in BIOS), cannot copy off of my external NVMe->USB C enclosure (transfers stall after a second or two and stay at 0 byte transfer speed) fucking cables, Windows update threw an error that something went wrong and that it was "trying a couple of things" but did continue and complete, r23 won't run, AMD driver installed but won't reinstall saying incompatible hardware found. Never seen this. Trying another fresh install. BIOS was updated to a version that supports the CPU prior to the swap.

edit: did another reinstall
edit 2: AMD GPU and chipset drivers appear to install via the "minimal" package that downloads on-the-fly as opposed to the two separate and full chipset and GPU driver packages.
edit 3: r23 launches - issue was tied to failed AMD GPU drivers and the file atig6pxx.dll missing or corrupt

What have you seen that suggests prices will eventually go down?

Looking to build up a good to high end PC that will last me for a good while. Don't really have a budget but thinking maybe 5k max? Would like to get in under that. I haven't kept up with tech at all since I bought my last PC like 4 years ago.

What are good specs that you would look for? Mostly going to be playing ARPG's and single player games with some adobe premier video editing on the side.

Start here, adjust as needed

AMD's Next-Gen Zen 7 "Grimlock" CPUs To Utilize TSMC 1.4nm Process Tech & FOPLP Packaging, Launching in 2028

This will make a nice PC upgrade with $9000 of 32GB RAM and a $13,000 6090.

In a report by Taiwanese Commercial Times, it is said that AMD has begun supply chain preparations for its next-generation x86 CPU architecture called Zen 7, and codenamed Grimlock. The next generation of CPUs based on the Zen 7 architecture will harness TSMC's cutting-edge A14 process technology, which is a 1.4nm design. TSMC A14 will be competing with Intel's 14A at the same time, and Zen 7 is expected to land around 2028.

The TSMC Dachung Fab 25 P1 plant is where the company is a semiconductor maker, is expected to begin trial production by 2027, followed by mass production in 2028. TSMC's race towards A14 by 2028 is going to be crucial as Intel recently gained big traction with its Foundry business, allegedly gaining support from major customers for its 18A-P and 14A nodes, with Apple and TeraFab already being confirmed customers.

As for AMD's Zen 7, the CPUs are expected to feature a brand new CCD design with up to 16 cores, and up to 224 MB of L3 cache on a single 3D V-Cache CCD. This shows that both standard L3 caches and 3D V-Cache capacities will see a boost in future CPUs. For servers, AMD's Zen 7 core brings updated MATRIX engine capabilities along with expansion to the AI Data formats.

Couldn't see a printer topic, so I guess this is as good a place as any. I'm looking for a good home printer/scanner. I don't expect heavy use, and to be honest, it probably can be a black and white printer, though if there are colour ones that are a good price I wouldn't avoid them. I will probably be using it mostly for scanning old photographs and documents to create a digital copy of them. I want to avoid certain traps, such as I've seen that some printer manufacturers now want you to sign up for a monthly service to use their printers and shit like that.

So, what sort of home use printer/scanners or manufacturers do you recommend, and which should you avoid like the plague?

if youre doing lots of photos and docs i would recommend a dedicated photo archival scanner

Epson FastFoto FF-680W Wireless High-Speed Photo and Document Scanning System, Black it's expensive and it's old (i don't think they make newer models) b/c scanner tech is like... um nothing changes, you only need 300dpi for 3x5's

but like if you had a flatbed scanner, you'd flip up the lid, place, close, scan then repeat. with this you just put a stack of 24 photos that you'd get from a roll of film and it scans and pops em all out in under 30s

for printers i think brother and cannon are the two that don't require ink subscription and can use 3rd party ink (i have a color laser brother 3210 for those reasons)

def avoid hp/epson

oh there is a cheaper alternative to the epson scanner
ScanSnap iX1300 Compact Wireless or USB Double-Sided Color Document, Photo & Receipt Scanner with Auto Document Feeder and Manual Feeder for Mac or PC, White

to scan photos you'd feed it from the front and it scan and spit it back out in 2seconds, while still way faster than a flatbed scanner, you still have to do one by one.

I bought this recently and have 0 regrets - color laser was the way to go.

Brother MFC-L3720CDW:
Print and Scan from my phone is great as well.
The attached zip/mp3 is from when I worked at a call center in the late 90s and one of the companies we supported was Brother. Those guys were f'n wild. They'd drink at work etc..

Setup - Roderick is a co-worker of Tarrance & is calling in on the late night Brother Accessories line. It is the only line that is open 24 hrs at this point. So, Roderick gets raging drunk with his buddies Cleo and Jason (all employees), and they have a little fun with poor 5'2 on the 24 hour line. Good times. Good times.

Thanks! Almost all the photos are in albums, so I would have to remove them and scan them one by one, so having a regular flatbed is not so bad. I'll definitely look at Brother. Thanks!
