Also, uh, the latest release is pretty good. If you care, avoid spoilers, intro is a relative banger.

If I had to summarize the play style of the act, think Pale Heart overthrow events combined with Coil rogue lite elements but in the Dreadnaught. Solo or matchmade. Shiny/double perk/adept variants of all the new weapons. No health regen at all inside the new activity which is not as much of a problem as it sounds.

Ok, so this game is still a fucking mess to find out what to buy to "optimize" our time: What should friends and I buy to maximize value if we wanted to come back and play for 50–100 hours? I believe we have Witch Queen and everything before that.

Is Lightfall worth buying at all? What does the Final Shape Annual Pass give that's not already included in the base expansion? Are these dungeon keys something you need on top of owning an expansion? We're most interested in playing the Final Shape expac and whatever this new dungeon is.

Man, what a fucking mess this game is, lol. It's such a shame because the little I've played it was a blast.

Buy this bundle for $30. You should have everything except two dungeon keys (no more of them moving forward).

Annual passes always include the expansion itself, the year of season content, dungeon keys and usually some materials/cosmetic shit. Base expansion purchases only include the first of four seasons and they don't include dungeon keys. They are the broke bitch college student option. Get it all at once.

That bundle should get you access to everything except:
Duality, Spire of the Watcher (WQ key),
Ghosts of the Deep, Warlord's Ruin (LF key)

Yearly cycle begins again.

  • Gear reset, UI overhaul, matchmaking changes across the board, ability to fully progress through PVP.
  • No more paid seasonal content or activities, passes will just be resources and cosmetics.
  • First part of the year will be introduction to the Nine as the new antagonists
  • Second part of the year seems like a focus on the lawless frontier with a Star Wars motivation.
  • Edge of Fate is a non-linear campaign where you get ability upgrades ala Metroidvania and go back to expand on areas (including a morph-ball).
  • Mention of world tiers related to unlocking the campaign abilities

As far as playable content goes, Rite of the Nine started today and it's a 3-dungeon event similar to the raid event they did last year. New difficulties, drops, etc. Free to everyone including two dungeons that are usually paywalled.

If you are planning on getting it, GMG already has an 18% discount for $82 total - the next year of Destiny for the price of a Switch 2 game.

Having an entire expansion be themed on someone else's IP feels really odd to me.

Sure, Vampire Survivors has done it (grab the free Romancing Saga pack if you haven't), and Fortnite has a Star Wars season going on right now (including, of all things, Darth Jar Jar - that's a meta joke I can get behind) - but those are seasonal riffs that may not even be accessible after they're over. Whereas this Destiny content will be live forever (or until that planet gets vaulted).

They said bi-yearly expansions so at least it won't be a whole year. I'm not sure how it's going to work either, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I want a lightsaber in D2.

Really expect it's just a cosmetic nod to SW and not any type of actual crossover. The tooltip in game mentions a new Dredgen popping up around the edge of the system so it could just be another Forsaken vibe bounty hunt expac. Makes sense for Destiny to have a lawless frontier given all the guys Drifter used to hang with.

Dead game I know.

Whole game, all expacs and episodes, are going to be free for two weeks, July 8-22. Anything earned during open access will be kept.

Next expansion on July 15. Full gear and systems reset.

Yay for content vaulting and rendering 70% of your gear ineffective. I haven't seen my vault so empty since starting this game. RIP 💔

I could probably nuke my entire vault (excluding crafted weapons) and would lose nothing of value. Power creep over time has largely negated like 99% of weapon rolls as it is.

There's a pretty big steam sale right now and thought about picking it up, should I just avoid at this point? I haven't played since Forsaken.

No reason to avoid unless you have some kind of emotional baggage with the game. There's an incredible amount of content to play and the people upset with the game mostly have thousands of hours already invested. Just be aware that player power is being reset in a couple of weeks in an expansion power crunch. We started hitting for 999,999 and numbers stopped feeling relevant. They are trying to entice new players with a UI overhaul and more direction in the xpac; right now the new player experience is confusing.

Recommended purchase $20: Destiny 2: The Light & Darkness Collection | PC - Steam | Game Keys
The upcoming expansion would be another $35: Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate | PC - Steam | Game Keys

So you are looking at $55 for all Destiny 2 content minus four dungeons.

I really enjoyed the game when I was playing it with a few of my buddies, and I think I played it longer than they did. It's an amazing game but like you said the experience of getting back into it is pretty confusing, and the way they've got all their stuff structured is retarded. I just never really knew where to begin getting back into it but I'm tempted to pick up the stuff.

I just wasn't certain because I know some of you guys have been saying it's a dying game and I don't know anything about whether they're going to stop development on it or what have you, so I guess that's what I was kind of asking about.

It's still one of the slickest looter shooters out there, and I always had it run flawlessly on my machine.

TBD how successful it will be, but the new "Portal" UI in a couple of weeks is basically meant to address the "wtf do I do?" question.

It's not literally dying, they are "committing" to a 2-expansion release schedule each year. This release will be the start of that cycle.

I've never played this game but it looks interesting.

Not sure I understand: Do I start July 8 or July 15?

Brand new player, start on the 8th with all the content free. Decide if you like the game and don't worry about leveling up or your power for the first week since it'll be reset with the new launch. You can still stock pile some gear and run some content though.

tbh I'd start playing now and get all the subclasses (including Prismatic, Stasis, and Strand) maxed out. maybe Bungie will finally stop being fucking retarded and throw new players a massive catch-up bone and let you bypass the terrible grind for the extra subclasses but I don't have faith in them to do that.
