This is a legit deal. I haven't played since Forsaken but this is an amazing bundle. Should keep me busy for a while even though the game is down too less than 15k players according to Steam charts.

So what is going on with this game? What has made it absolutely collapse in play count lately? Has Bungie come out and acknowledged at all that shit has to change? I enjoyed this game quite a bit when I played it, but it's been quite some time, and I'm more of a passerby with the game.

They made a bet on the new "Portal" system and put all power progression behind a very small portion of the game that was updated over to it. They also made the power grind take longer than it ever had before and locked the new god tier 5 loot behind that grind. Players sorta revolted. So now Bungie is in the middle of walking back a ton of unpopular changes, including the announcement that they won't be resetting power levels in December. They basically just fixed the power grind this week and it's pretty good now.

The loot/guns/ability part of the game are better than ever but Bungie has no clue how to update their game for a new player experience, so the population continues to dwindle. If you don't have an established player helping guide you through content it continues to be pretty confusing.

That said, $35 for (almost) the entirety of Destiny 2 is still an incredible deal.

I think another big nail in their proverbial coffin has been the end of the Dark and Light Saga. We killed the big bad and a lot of people have used that as a perfect narrative exit point for the game. They should have been working towards a Destiny 3 and had a nominal cool down period before its release, but they put basically all their Destiny eggs in the D2 basket and moved everything else to Marathon and their other projects. Not really sure how "dead" Destiny is yet, I've always had periods where I drop out and do other things and then cycle back. I think we will see some of an uptick with the next "Star Wars" themed expansion because lightsabers etc., it may also show us if a lot of people just needed a break and cycle back. If Renegades is DOA, then I think they're cooked. If we see a decent resurgence, then maybe they can keep it from being a dead IP. People seem to enjoy Destiny Rising, just not sure if it would be enough to keep the franchise alive if D2 dies.

Yeah. Then a new player turns on the game and instead of experiencing 7 years of story and baddies they get a cinematic that reveals we already killed that biggest bad. Real nice motivator. I wish D2 introduced new players like Warframe does - force them to play through the content in order. Of course, they couldn't do that because they refused to make older expansions free over time, but the public perception around Destiny would be completely different.

The new player experience really is dog shit. Has been forever now and I've had several friends bounce off of the game because of it even with me there to help get them into it.

I logged in last night. Haven't played since Shadow Keep. Had to look up a guide to even figure out where to start. Looks like Beyond Light is where I'll start. The new menu/portal shit is confusing. I liked the old planetary map that just put an icon on what planet you needed to land on to start the mission. Still had all my exotic weapons and armor. You start with level 10 items. The game would probably be 200+gb but they should just let you start at the beginning of the games life and do every mission till current.

If it helps you can still use the planet map for anything before Kepler (Edge of Fate expac). Markers will still show on planets if you track the quests.

OMG, they don't let you play through the Light and Dark Saga? It legit was one of the (most milked but) best long running stories in gaming; Destiny basically invented the Game-As-A-Service (GAAS) genre. I first bought a PS4 only to play Destiny. If they don't have a way for new players (should really be ALL players) to experience the story, they need to split Bungie into two Studios, let me new studio (call it "Well-Kept") to run Destiny and let these current mooks (Call it "Fired Up") work on whatever disaster Marathon is going to be. It will be easier to change the company names later that way.

Edit: I've been meaning to play through the Final Shape since I haven't played since the disastrous Tylenol fest that was LightFall. I moved my characters over to PC and bought the catch up and it loads me in straight to the new Expac without any options and drops me straight into the first mission. OMG these people are fully f'ing stupid. Then you start out by seeing a 20th century train in a cutscene and I guess the new big bad which are going be the Nine? Still shooting what are guess Rogue Iliskni and a new transform mechanic right out of the gate, which noped me right back to orbit. Truly everyone writing in gaming/game design is full-on Retarded.

The game still has a pulse, but it's faint. Effectively, it's dead. Barring some miracle, it's a matter of time. Sooner than later.

The only people still playing it are the people who have invested an embarrassing amount of their life into it and its part of their identity. The other part of the population are casuals who occasionally pop in for a few days to see if the game has improved, realize it's still shit, and leave.

The game isn't fixable because the company has no competent storytellers left. Now the show is far too heavily influenced by faggoty, soy men and blue-haired, 'boss bitch,' lesbian feminists and they're scraping the bottom of the barrel for memberberries (Star Wars) out of desperation to get people to pay attention.

The Bungie of old has been dead for years. Much like Bioware, and several other studios that were once great.

Only thing that will save Destiny at this point is Destiny 3. Which is not even in the plans. Good luck with your extraction shooter, lol. Such a shit mismanagement of this company its sad at ths point.

Marathon launch is going to be such a train wreck and I can't wait. Don't regret most of the time I put into D2, just wish I had done more raiding.

Especially now that Arc raiders shows how it is done.

Oh look they have proximity chat too. Shocker.

Bungie isn't cleaning up jack shit when it comes to Marathon. They don't know how.

I had fun for a couple of weeks with this. Did all the content up to the current expansion. Even did 2 of 4 expansions on legendary but the last 2 just wore me out. I didn't do any raids though. Whoever thought Nimbus was a good idea should be shown the exit though...I cringed every time he/her? was on screen. Ran a pretty strong titan stasis build and it was fun. I wanted to make some hunter, and warlock builds but I'm not running them through the stories again just to get the skills needed. Also not paying $20 to skip Beyond Light. Would still need to do the other expansions with them to complete all the skills anyway.

My biggest problem with D2 now and what ultimately made me quit was the way light level works now. You should be able to run any content in the game, new or old and make steady power increases. Once you hit level 200 you can only gain power by doing the latest content or what Bungie decides gives power that week and it's a boring slog. When you do manage to get a drop it's usually +1 better and the most efficient way to do this is run the same 1 or 2 missions over and over. Even that will only get you so far and you need to do even more harder content to level higher. Fuck that. I think I quit at about 312 light level even after getting the 300 boost from the chest in the tower. Max is 550. The amount of hours that would take is insane.

You level up to become more powerful but to get more powerful you have to kneecap your character in all the harder content by sifting through menus in the portal and either take power away from yourself or make the enemies harder or both to achieve a certain score at the end of whatever content you decide to attempt. Miss the time limit? Sorry you get nothing! Die one too many times? Sorry try again. Once the enemy difficulty gets to a certain point it's just no longer fun to play unless you have a broken build that can survive. But to make these broken builds usually requires gear that's hard as shit to obtain or is no longer possible to get. I get it the game is all about the grind but it's just not fun the way it's implemented now. The game is a checklist with menu after menu. I lost count of how many times I had to go online to figure out what to do next or even how to get to certain places. Problem is the game has been retooled so many times that half the online info no longer applies or is no longer in the game. I paid $20 for 2 dungeon keys (lol this is a rip-off) to run a dungeon that can drop the ice breaker exotic. The game doesn't tell you where to go to start the mission to be able to go to the dungeon. Luckily, I found a post online asking the same question and figured it out. Dungeon is brutal so I gave up on that. $20 well spent lol.

I might come back to check out Renegades since I got it for $5 with that deal going on but in no way will it save this game.

BTW fuck champions and the dumb morph ball Metroid shit.

LOL, thats prob why they took it out of the game.

It was pretty funny in court they had to refer to Byf and other youtube videos for content because Bungie allegedly couldn't produce it for evidence
