Did I close this tab before posting? God dammit.
So I joined a rerolled VOG while basically blind because I never got around to researching it. Sorry. Something something don't do new atheon with too many 26/27's and noobs because rng can fuck you. Our main issue slowing us down seemed to be portal team having to jack it while outside team finished off the exploding shits that planted their asses on the portal exit. Is the # of Harpy waves affected by how fast the portal team finishes oracles, or is it just a matter of burning them quickly? There was probably better positioning we could have been using to get to them faster on spawn. And then of course there were bugs (2 people teleported! one person can't exit! Relic AOE does 0 damage!) Plus noobs like me who didn't get many reps early on in mars/venus, so it took a while to learn oracle locations and such because I didn't get to see it very often (I kept missing that the first one spawns over your head at the start - I could hear it but was all wtf) Or having the other two people run off so I get relic duty for the first time and die to the Minotaur. (didn't expect to have to bomb him multiple times while nearly being one shot - apparently the trick is to try to jump over and behind him and not right on him, plus the other two players should toss their nades)
Also, what the fuck at the invisible hole in the ledge after the jump puzzle? That damn thing... If I jumped straight over it I would spring off to the left like a fucking Titanfall wall-jump or hit my head on the ceiling and bounce right down into the "hole" that isn't there. I want to practice but I guess the ideal method is to jump out into space and then turn and glide back in? That hidden hole is some Dark Souls 1 style cheese right there. (I made the Mega Man jump on the first try because someone mentioned saving gas to not splatter at the bottom) I blame jumping mechanics - why the fuck do you bounce off walls if you jump while near one?
Anyway it was fun, and I learned enough that strat guides make sense and let me pick up on things I missed. Like I didn't know the time buff gave you fast cooldowns, which can help clear out harpies.
My main frustration now is - you really can't "catch up" in leveling. You do your daily xp stuff, and then everything else gives you jack shit. I'm only halfway through Sunsinger and my VoC will be super helpful when I reach bonus oracle damage - in about another 10 days of bounties/dailies. There doesn't really seem to be any useful way of speeding it up as nothing else gives shit for xp and would be a total poopsock fest. Crucible bounties are a real slog, but I might try to do more of them since WOD is so close. I just want to reach the point where I'm capable in VOG normal / nightfall. Don't really care about hard mode because WOD will be out before I can possibly reach 30 + have appropriate weapons.
Speaking of, REALLY need nightfall and I should really have begged my way into one on Tues. I'll be home after 3 est.
<- at work, sick enough to feel like shit and to guzzle coffee but not sick enough to justify leaving.
