Legendaries are better than yellows in a LOT of slots. Belt, pants, chest, helm, feet, sometimes bracers. In a lot of cases, Legendary weapons are better too, but that depends on the build. I actually dislike this, because Witching Hour means no rare belt ever is worth wearing unless you just can't get a Witching Hour, because they can't roll IAS and Crit Damage. This problem goes back to what that guy on the D3 forums made the epic post about, how there's 3 DPS stats, every single spec of every class needs as much of those stats as possible, and any item with those stats is better than any item without them. THAT is what they need to address with itemization, I couldn't care less if legendaries are always better than yellows or not.
Yes that is the real issue is with legendary items that can never be surpassed by a rare. But there was also a ton of complaining about how legendaries were trash in comparison to rares. But when a legendary can roll a damage stat from the big three and the rare equivalent is not able to do the same the legendary will always be BiS. You will always have barbs in Mempo and WH for the IAS. Some of the cool examples of legendaries I feel done right are like Inna's pants and Lacuni where they can roll some cool stat (in this case MS%) not from their itemization table but doesn't make them the "absolute must have." The Inna pants also roll such a low CC% (again not on pants table) but it doesn't scew them towards being undisputed bis.

We can toss ideas about fixing itemization back and forth for another year, because thats what it'll take for blizzard to get enough good ideas from the b.net forums to even attempt a patch that might shake things up.

I never wanted any serious pvp arena stuff in diablo but look at how that went from one year before release to one year after it. Now replace 'pvp' with 'itemization' to see where it will lead. Depressing outlook, isnt it?

That epic post I mentioned literally could be a blueprint for improving Diablo 3. There's not really any need to dig around for more at this point. I didn't agree with every thing the post mentioned but I would pour way way more time in to his version of D3 than the current one, and I'm already playing a fair amount currently.

Decided to play this again recently, but since i switched to a surround portrait setup it seems like im out of luck. I did not realize they completely killed off the methods to use 3 monitors in D3.

I've been playing recently and one run I have been doing with friends has been Act 1 mp7 warden/butcher/KW followed by whimsyshire. Two of us got lucky last night and got the spectrum blade with 700+DPS that sold for 1 billion. Sad the only loot I've gotten worth selling has been a lvl30 sword.

It's just called Spectrum, it's a legendary. I didn't think level 30 things could drop in Inferno though?

I have no idea what a spectrum blade is. Wizards have a skill called Spectral Blade ...? I also don't know of any weapon that is 700 DPS that sells for that much money unless it was like a perfectly, perfectly rolled barb OH.

They can't. And a perfectly rolled Spectrum is exactly 39.2 DPS.

Actually I think the legacy spectrum is 39.2 DPS. The regular ones can be 740+ DPS, making them a very powerful twink item. I am however questioning the ability to get a Spectrum to drop on MP7. I also would never pay 1 Billion gold for one. It really is not all that hard to level a toon and thus think it silly to pay so much for 30 levels worth of power.

Just looked and the 39.2 is not legacy. apparently thier one random can be a serious amount of bonus damage.

I know they were talking about if they haven't put it on already was having all legendaries drop end game and they would roll the ilvl of the mob it dropped off of? If so, and the item rolls ilvl 63 stats but this item is bugged and is still useable by a lvl 30 I could see someone dropping a billion gold on it because the type of player that would use a 700 dps weapon on a lvl 30 probably has money to blow.

And really its only 15 lvls of power because you can get a 700 dps -15 lvl requirement weapon for a few mil I'm sure.

They haven't put in that idea and I doubt it will see the light of day. They'd also have to adjust the base rolls for all legendary as well.

Ya sorry it was Spectrum. It drops off of a rare spawn purple named in whimsy in inferno and can roll high arcane damage giving it really high DPS.

Edit - I believe the same thing can happen with the Horadric Hamburger now too.

700 DPS Spectrums exist, just check the AH, they're all over there. I never get it why some people will argue that something doesn't exist when it's actually incredibly simple to verify. Or, if you don't have an account/don't play, why on earth bother arguing the point. As for where they drop - whimsyshire on any difficulty, but they only have ilvl 63 affixes from inferno. And no, that doesn't cause their required level to be 60 - it's a "secret" item or whatever you want to call it. Along with the horadric hamburger. Yes, seriously.

I bought a 300 dps one for my level 30 alt (was like 5m or something dirt cheap), and it allowed me to one shot almost all trash in nightmare at mp10 for the increased xp gain. Was quite nice going from something around 60dps to 300dps. The 700 dps would be overkill for that range, and then yes, when you hit level 45, you just grab a crazy good weapon with -15 level requirement and you're set for the rest of the way.

Did any of you considering looking at the AH before being whiny bitches? Spectrum has exactly 1 random roll on it and always has a required level of 30. Spectrum and the Horadric Hambuger are the only legendaries in the game that can drop from much higher mobs than their base ilvl. The random stats on all items (including legendaries) is based off the mlvl of the mob that dropped it, not the ilvl of the item. If Spectrum happens to roll a very high damage range mod for its 1 random roll, then you get a level 30 sword with several hundred DPS. It doesn't have +% damage as a base roll, so the highest damage spectrums will all be an elemental damage roll.

Tenks, that's exactly what they're doing for 1.0.9: Adjusting required level, base DPS and base rolls on legendaries to be based off the mlvl of the monster that dropped, then letting legendaries drop from their lowest possible level onward, so that you'll see a lot more variety of legendaries in Inferno. That pretty much is the major selling point of 1.0.9.

Is there a blog post/blue post about them talking about 1.0.9 a bit more Grayson? I haven't been trolling on reddit diablo recently so I could have missed confirmation on some bits of the itemization patch.

This summarizes all the blue posts about 1.0.9 that went out when the 1.0.8 preview came out:http://diablo.somepage.com/info/patches-future
They knew that the big thing to do was more itemization fixes, because items is what keep people playing the game, and since they wanted to do some really big things that wouldn't be able to be done for 1.0.8, they appended their blog posts and added lots of forum posts with 1.0.9 planned changes.

Ah ok so I'm not really behind on the times. I'll still be interested to see how legendaries work in 1.0.9 because I can see it becoming very confusing which stats/attributes scale and which don't. Most interested in the legendaries which change playstyle. Probably won't really matter for WW Barbs but could make other classes more interesting.

Wow, all this does (http://diablo.somepage.com/info/patches-future) is make me feel like these fuckstains have absolutely *zero* clue about what made Diablo such a great series (until 3). They lack direction and focus, they are totally scattered. It will take them 2-3 years for their "discussions" to actually see the light of day, by which time I hopefully have forgotten that this miserable piece of cunty shit even exists.

Pathetic.

"I personally love the idea of an endless dungeon, don't take that as a quote that I promised we are adding them though!" - okay! Thanks, random guy who isn't Dave Brevik! We'll definitely (possibly) (not or maybe) look forward to a (possible) endless dungeon, bro! Thanks for committing!

They also recently announced with the shift away from Titan more bodies have been thrown at the D3 expansion. So hopefully they can stretch some of the goals. Like many have said the core of the game is great and if they just fixed some stuff up the game could be a worthy successor to Diablo 2.
