And in every game everyone fucking hates them.
These are probably the best iteration of escort quests possible. The NPC will just teleport to you so it's basically like they aren't even there and it's really only used as a story element and nothing else. I mean I'm not sure how you can have an RPG or mostly any game really without some sort of escort type missions.

Why does everything have to be 1 or 0?

I played the fuck out of D3 at release and in various seasons over the years since. Doesn't mean I loved everything about it. It was simply a fun ARPG.

D4 seems to fix a lot of the complaints I had with 3 while keeping the best gameplay of any ARPG out there...
So far it doesn't seem like you need to external program to level up your character. It's my biggest complaint about POE. Complexity is good up to a point. POE takes it too far.

I thought it would have taken some of you until at least tomorrow to see how garbage ass this game was. I’m impressed with my bretheren.
This game is pretty fucking good lol. Anyone saying otherwise is fucking delusional.

The streams that I watched if they got too far ahead the npc just stopped.

And I really hope nobody would actually defend escort quests as fun and interesting. At the very best they are just unintrusive to the normal run and kill ARPG mechanics... which means... what the fuck is the point?

Their whole purpose is basically a story element which is fine. So far I haven't really experienced any problems whatsoever with any of them other than maybe having to wait an extra few seconds for them to get to where they need to be to progress to the next part. Not really sure why this is a big deal to anyone at all.

There's something a little off with the UI scaling or something, but otherwise, this game is good. Most importantly, the netcode is great, abilities feel like they fire the instant you click them, unlike Lost Ark/Last Epoch.

Because its annoying and escort quests are notoriously prone to bugs. You've only played through the first act.

It's so antithetical to ARPGs as well.

That's usually why people hate them, the AI for them is usually terrible and leads to things like NPC getting stuck just disappearing, a stage not spawning or a list of other problems. And in most games it just slows the player down from normal movement/playing and thus feels jarring.

Honestly I can only hope this game lets you skip the story after doing it once, like d3 did with adventure mode. Very few actually care about the story(or pretend they do like a certain immortal player in this thread).

Im finding this to be smoother on the Xbox than on my PC. Granted my PC isn't cutting edge anymore, but its still a bit surprising.

You guys have the memory of fucking goldfish. People were swinging from Blizzards nutsack during the Act1 open Beta of D3. Almost all the complaints were hidden much later in the game.

Gay butterfly faggot stories, trans Diablo, RMAH gayness, piss poor drop rates, fucked up gearing, and imbalanced difficulty lol we doubled it.. that shit never was visible in the open Beta.

You killed the Skeleton King and people were actually excited for more, then they got rammed up their shithole.

Meh you gotta context the shit outta this. Blizzard didn't have a track-record of woke bullshit back in 2012 for woke bullshit.

2023 Blizzard? Yeah we are all aware of their records...

D4 seems to fix a lot of the complaints I had with 3 while keeping the best gameplay of any ARPG out there...

Ehhh He is right on this part, you have access to the skeleton king. The issues that plagued D3 didn't hit til release and everyone experienced the bullshit.

I would argue that D3 didn't really peak in gameplay til months after release. I played the fuck out of release but not because of any enjoyment, I played it because I had hope that I could find a grain of somethign that would make the game enjoyable through gearing my character. The rampant bullshit they implemented because of the RMAH drained any love out of the game I had. It was only after the RMAH was closed and the drop-systems revamped that I started finding the game fun again.

Combine that with the understanding that the teams at blizzard NOW are responsile for some of the worst systems we have ever experienced in WoW and other games they publish and people here SHOULD have some hesitation about Diablo 4.

I tried playing after the work. The client is really bad right now. I was playing on medium, and I was just getting random sub 40 fps, and stuttering. I'm sure they'll get that worked out. Well they have to or this game will die in a fire even more quickly and can't far the whales on it.

I was happy with the gameplay though. Typical ARPG. I just don't get how people are saying POE is gameplay is superior. ARPG gameplay is mostly all the same. Unless you want to count POE's amazing TRADE SYSTEM..../s It always puzzles much at how much POE gets a free pass on such an aneurysm of a system.

D4's open world system to me is up in the air. The little I played tonight screamed world quest, and it was pretty easy to farm them for drops. I kinda want a reason to group up and kill some shit(do a run not just farm the open quest). The open world quest thing kind of defeats that.

Nobody who plays POE gives the trade system a pass. However, the market is still amazing and robust and no other game market comes close to it. Everything (99.99%) of shit that drops is tradeable. Its only bottlenecked by the implementation of trading. Its kind of crazy such a huge system is in the game and you'd never know if if you didn't visit the website or shop, and even then you'd never make the most of it without 3rd party tools. But the same can be said for most amazing systems in games (addons in WoW).

Why more game devs don't adopt this type of crowd sourced development is beyond me. The 99-2008 was so fucking amazing because almost every game released with an SDK. Developers could offload a lot of their cost and design time if they just exposed key apis to the public. Of course then you circle back to the problem of needing 3rd party to compete but alas there isn't a perfect solution. Maybe implement some kind of in game addon store with features and tutorials but I have no idea what legal ramifications that has.

Game studios stopped doing this when a guy named IceFrog used those tools to make a UMS that was more popular than the game it spawned from. And then that studio got greedy and tried to sue for IP rights... and lost. And then that UMS became a huge success on its own and spawned the most successful game genre in existence

4) UI, drops (loot) it all just looks very D3? Might be in the minority, but I don't like that every item is the same size in the inventory. Give me my inventory management POE style.
R.8d20ae51361050734dce54f06a651b6d

Inventory management is anti-fun in ARPG loot games. "Hey, here's a bunch of cool items, but you can only carry 4 of them if they're bows/2handers of all varieties or you can carry 10x as much if you pick up only the smaller items so you can choose to either get to look at a bunch of items and/or sell them or look at 10% as many items and/or sell them for 10% of the gold because lol"

That doesn't really count as an escort quest then, IMO. The real bullshit with escort quests is when they make them take 37 minutes to walk the distance it takes a player 30 seconds to run, and every 9 minutes it spawns 3 mobs to come fight you.
