I downloaded it, made it to maybe level 20 as a druid, got bored and uninstalled. More upset that the size of the game apparently ate up a dumb amount of monthly bandwidth caps
Yep, that was my exact same experience with the dogshit that is D4.

The controls are the most responsive, the movement feels fluid, the combat feels the best, the onscreen feedback is the most informational, etc.
Bah, both POEs, shit all over this game. The game play of D4 is severely lacking. The build up and spend combat for every class is trash, and not fun. The gearing and crafting system is also trash. End game is boring. Lack of any build diversity. Shit, even Grim Dawn does everything better than this game and its like 10 fucking years old now. Even Last Epoch, which I dont even like, is better than this, and cheaper. So many man hours spent to make this trash too. Its a shame.

I know, "My game is better than your game" arguments, lol. I mean, have fun if you like this.

Weird people keep repeating this even though it was only true for a few builds during the first season.

Everything else you said is correct.

Look, a pox on all of their houses, to be honest; I am not a fan of anyone's game, although I like Eleventh Hour the best, it seems. I had/have a lot of fun with Last Epoch, I loved the hell of out of Grim Dawn, I probably played POE2 too early but to be frank have never been the biggest fan of the unified skill matrix whatever but the POE games have the most committed fan base so taking nothing away from POE/POE2. I think I called POE2 "the Dark Souls of ARPGs" when it launched, which I intended to be high praise. Given the power of a great drop and how easy it seemed be intended to trade for great gear, except that GGG saddled POE/POE2 with the most archaic 1990s BBS trading system possible, it literally blows my mind. Watching my ARPG buddies bite the bullet and then blow the doors off the game by getting geared by going into people's lairs or whatever? I missed the magic of it. Also of Dark Souls until Elden Ring, so there's that. It could be just me.

Back to D4: You can look back at the early part of this thread where I flayed Blizzard and the state the game shipped in and the first couple of seasons; the Blizzard that made so many great games, much like Bethesda of old, is dead.

That being said they had made a lot of improvements, both gameplay and balance wise with D4 and I am enjoying playing it, particularly since I don't have to play through the woke/hates the West/sacrilegious/borderline blasphemous storyline they have in D4; its open world ish enough I can just start each season now without engaging in the story, which isn't something that can be said of any of the other ARPGs mentioned.

If I want to build character in RL, I will go back to cross-training; ARPGs is not where I go grind my life away. D4 has enough complexity/fun factor for the moment, and when that clock stops, or someone else improve upon the formula for me, so will I.

Game is dead. The changes to boss farming killed the game dead in its tracks. At the same time, they nerfed drops and said they only wanted 10% of the players to reach T4....which is the same thing as saying they want 90% of their players to not play at all.

Blizzard games aren't worth playing.

Something I'd never imagined I would say 20 years ago but here we are.

People go from 1 to 60 to T1 to T4 in about 6-8 hours at the launch of a season and less than half that a couple days later, so if that was their plan it didn't work very well. Drops are not nerfed in the slightest either; season 10 in particular is nothing but loot pinatas everywhere.

The biggest problem is the endgame makes no sense. T4 is the cap on difficulty for all content besides the Pit. Pit 55 is the same as T4 and any remotely decent build can do at least Pit 100 which renders everything else completely trivial. At the same time Pit itself is pointless for anything other than leveling up glyphs (which takes an hour or two since there's absolutely no need to go past level 46 on them). All the best loot comes from the rest of the content that you've already trivialized, so there's no incentive to keep farming for +gooder gear.

I haven't played S10 or 9. They absolutely nerfed drop rates at the same time they changed the bosses in S8. That they went back on the nerfs in S10 is irrelevant; they already shed a ton of players over it.

Nothing they do makes sense. Might be why they fired the lead over it not too long ago. At the start, leveling was too slow and drops too few. So they got rid of 40 levels, sped up leveling of all types, and increased drops. Then they decided people were trivializing content too quickly so they killed both in S8. They also changed season progression to this dumb reliquary thing which gave fewer rewards for more money.

All this back and forth on not understanding their own reasoning for changes, and they completely ignored why content was trivialized in the first place. Their only carrot on stick to draw people to a new season is to make a few wildly OP meta builds which take no time to gear for, then people blast through content and quit. They still haven't figured out this why people are done with a season in a week or two. OP builds trivialize every aspect of the game thus giving players no reason to play it for anything other than a very short amount of time.

The glyph thing was another nerf. Sure, glylphs on op meta builds don't matter much, but on eternal realm, they do give a big boost to non meta builds. Non meta builds on eternal meaning all of them without seasonal powers. The only form of progression then was min-maxxing gear and gaining glyph levels. The nerf to drop rates meant that getting perfect 3-4GA gear next to impossible, and the nerf to glyph leveling meant that getting to 100 would take forever. Thus, the population on eternal vanished.

I'm surprised MS hasn't shelved this game. No players and no income.

To be fair the whole gearing system lategame needs a better approach: farming mats for bosses for a chance of a 3GA or a 4GA and then farming thousands of mats for tempering tries gets old really quick. I last max 2 weeks before I really can't take any more Duriel runs etc.
Also did they nerf Obols? I spent hundreds of 2.5K stacks to try and get an epic this season, nada. Usually I had 3,4 with the same amount.

The whole Legendary items thing they went for made it awful. I imagine I would have liked it better if they had rares/uniques like PoE and just fucking use the Legendary powers as runes or in the skill tree or something.

But they are doing an overhaul guysssss, this time for sure they will get it right.

Haven't played since January, but parked it on an archive drive just in case I felt the urge to have another go someday... well, after reading this page, I finally deleted it.
Good riddance.

Ahh yes. People hated capstone dungeons, so they removed them. They return, and there are more of them. These people are beyond help.

People didn't hate the capstone dungeons, wtf are you even talking about? The main issue is a lack of meaningful content where you get to "endgame" in a few hours then repeat the same shit over and over until you burn out and don't log in for 2 or 3 seasons

LOL, more stupidity from the local Meter Reader.

People didn't like them which is why they were removed. Do you even play this game? Have you ever?

Sounds like another 'one step forward, two steps back' patch. Loot changes all sound great (except Sanctification, fuck off with creating a new way to brick items after finally fixing tempering's bullshit) as do some of the other changes like the changes to armor, getting rid of resistance aura and bringing back the missing rare monster affixes from D3, etc. Then you get to the class balancing part of the patch and it's basically just a laundry list of "fun detected" nerfs that make no sense at all, the most irritating one being nerfing sorcerer teleport into the ground.

This is why I only bother checking out Diablo once every half dozen or so seasons.
