When you use the war map and have to spend power, how do you know which one to do next? I had the option to open an area that cost 4 power, or 8 power. I tried the 8 power one first and loaded into an area with level 12 undead and they ate me. Then I didn't have enough power to open the other area. Thankfully I could load a save before spending any of those power points. In general, should I be 'buying' the areas of lower power cost first?
Don't worry about it too much. It won't be long before you are swimming in power and don't have anything to spend it on. That said, do the requisitions (those quests you get at the camps in all the zones) they all net +1 power and are repeatable (just talk to the requisition officer after you complete one). After the first 2 or 3 three areas are open, you won't have to worry about power any more and can stop doing the requisitions (save the materials for crafting).

Basically the starting areas are (most have higher parts to them that you come back to though):
Haven - L1-4
Hinterlands - L4-7 (though some parts are higher)
Val Royeaux - L4-6
Fallow Mire - L8-10
Storm Coast - L7-11

Once you are working on Storm Coast you will likely not have to worry about power any more.

So I'm getting stuck at "Loading Dragonage servers" or whatever it says at the startup. I'm assuming this has to do with the fucking idiots hacking PSN?

Weekend event for anyone interested. Accumulate 100 Bow kills and 100 2H Axe kills. 'Special' chest for each challenge which basically amounts to a free large chest, cause there sure as shit wasn't any special loot in mine, but 2 free large chests just for playing isn't completely awful.

*edit*

Pretty pathetic compared to the ME3 events though, since they actually had their own unique loot table. Every aspect of DAI mp is a pale shadow of ME3 mp.

I like the way promoting characters works in this one, but otherwise, yeah.

So I saw my friend play this on his PS4. I compared to what I saw on my PC. Shit like "click on this tiny thing to loot it, but stand really, really close" vs him just walking over it and pressing X..

Is the general verdict Shitty Port to PC or am I just making a fuss over nothing?

I haven't played any other version but you can just walk over to loot and click the interact button in the PC as well. That said, one of the strongest features (Tactical mode) of DA:O that made the pc shine vs console, is pretty terrible in this game, taking away one of the main reasons to play it on the pc.

You need a pretty current gaming PC to run as smooth as the PS4 version (though the PC graphics are better) so keep that in mind if you are considering between the two.

The PC version is fine outside of it crashing about 10 times over the 70 hours I've played so far. I can't comment on the co trols because I've been using an Xbox controller on the PC, but the controller is actually pretty good.

i have it on ps4 and yes you just walk over to it and press X but your 'stand really. really close' still stands. That is one of the things that annoys me, as well as the search button...I don't really understand the point of me constantly clicking my joystick...just make it a toggled pulse please.

You can just walk over to the thing and hit your interact key instead of clicking, the same way you would with the controller.

This is fucking atrocious on the PS3. The graphics are hideous, it looks like something from the PS2 era, and it's insanely choppy. It's hardly ever above 20 FPS and very, very commonly dips below 10, often as low as 5 FPS. It borders on unplayable, it simply stutters too much to fight properly a lot of the time. In addition to this, the UI looks unspeakably bad with character portraits and skill icons looking like something from 1998. I'm also hearing a lot of people reporting that once you get to that oasis area, the game simply becomes unplayable due to 0.1 FPS and then that's that, you cannot get further, people simply give up playing the game at that point as you can't even really get out of the area under those conditions. Totally broken port, should not have been sold for last-gen consoles.

You don't have to click shit on PC either, move close enough so you can see it, then press F.

I will be taking free netz for this advice.

After familiarizing myself with the keyboard and mouse for a couple of hours, I can confidently say that it's better than the controller. The tactical mode should have been refined a little more but everything is laid out in front of you. Pausing and using the wheel with the controller was a pain in the ass.

Finally managed to beat the game. The post-credits scene was "wtf" until I read the article on Kotaku that explained things. Several of the scenes and story missions in the game have taken on a completely new meaning now.

The only thing I wish was that the last story mission was more Mass Effect 2 collector base than Final Fantasy XII Bahamut in terms of scope.

i haven't had much (any) time to play DAI yet, for this free weekends multiplayer chest what do I need to do? the message says kill 100 people with a bow or a greataxe, is that the only way to get it? prob not gonna bother if its a lot of work, since i'll really get into the game in a month or two

or are the chests you guys are talking about the ones in the store that is "free"?

Other than the kinda WTF final boss of ME2, that last level definitely set the gold standard for RPG climaxes.

The bow kill one is easy since Archer is one of the starter classes. Greataxe is harder since you don't start with a Greataxe or a class capable of using one.
