Is anyone not of the PC Master Race running this at an acceptable level on an iMac/bootcamp, 5K maybe? Or is it down to console peasantry? Just curious as I get the feeling DA:I is gpu intensive. Cheers!

BTW, The game did finally work for me on the PS4 after allowing all 44 GB to download before applying the patch, been playing it about 15-20 hours so far, it's awesome! Probably will be the last digital purchase I make though, fucking nightmare. Especially with all the christmas time hacking making it that much harder to play my single player game.

I beat the game last night and realized I never even had or used a mount. Quite honestly though I was starting to tire of the game and decided to rush the story missions along so I could beat it and move on.

Well I have one and never use it...it's not much faster than walking, and you pass up all your loot, elf roots, etc.

I had a bunch of special mounts and never used them either. They were way too slow to justify missing all the shit you'd otherwise be picking up.

Overall, I don't really know why I didn't like this game more. The quality was extremely high and there was tons of stuff to do...I just never found it all that interesting. The main villian was totally forgettable and never all that menacing and the side-quests were so divorced from the main content that I wondered why I was doing a lot of it. I think a big problem for me was the shitty loot/itemization. I rarely found any items that made me excited and crafting was a productive chore at best. I liked the companion interactions a lot and I also (weirdly) liked the political intrigue mission at the Ball a lot - other than that I don't think the game was very memorable. Combat was ridiculously easy even on Nightmare (apart from 2 fights) so that was also a bummer. Anyway, I think it is a really solid game but it left me wanting something darker and with more depth...queue Witcher I guess.

Mounts can go pretty fast when sprinting. I would hate to get around Hissing Wastes or even Exalted Plains without one.

Mounts can help greatly with cliff scaling, too, if that's your thing. Really, though, they feel like a (poorly designed) afterthought in this game.

Corypheus was a pretty cool villain in the DA2 DLC since it was the first time you encountered a historical character that started it all. I think the problem with the story was that they never really explained what his or even solas' motives were. It was really just all the other characters speculating, but you never actually heard directly from the main villains themselves. Really loved the lore bits with flemeth and the elven ruins though. I have a feeling the ending was kept kinda plain so they wouldn't write themselves into a corner which leaves things more open for the next game.

Also, horse take no damage no matter how high the cliff you jump off of. That was pretty much all I used mine for... base jumping off cliffs to shortcut.

Yeah I found the Elven ruin lore and the Flemeth involvement the most interesting part of the story. The Solas reveal kinda came out of nowhere since I never had anything to do with his character in my playthrough and never did any of his side missions or anything. I thought the idea of corrupting Templars with red lyrium was a good idea but not taken far enough and Corypheus just struck me as a kind of idiot rather than a really menacing character. I think they should have slain one of your companions for real to make you hate him or something. Blowing up some village I don't give a shit about doesn't really cut it.

The thing with Corypheus is you don't interact with him at all after Haven until the very end. And Haven doesn't feel like much of a loss, since you go from there to getting a huge awesome castle right away. They should have made you suffer without a home base for a lengthy mission or two before you get to Skyhold. You basically spend the entire game after Haven beating the fucking shit out of all Corypheus' minions, Varric and Dorian even joke about how thoroughly you kick his minions' asses and spoil all of his plans.

Multiplayer is surprisingly enjoyable. If they put as much continuing effort into it as they did with ME3 it could be good for a few months. I know EA won't want to hear this, but its basically completely pointless to buy chests with real money. The best items drop in game and I was able to unlock all the classes with materials to spare after a couple days of play.

Dagger users and the Qunari class seem to be the weak ones, but everything is playable, at least until you play on Perilous. Reavers, Archers, Elementalists, and Necromancers are the best options at that point, because shit hits so hard that chain CC is your only viable option. If you are anything that tanks, forget about Perilous until you slot a bunch of heal on kill (or just +heal for reavers and Necromancers). Walking Bomb, Blizzard, and Mana/Heal on kill really clears shit out on Perilous, with the Necromancer. My other characters just cannot compete, even though my Necro has a shit weapon. Any class can work at Threatening, though. Except maybe the Qunari class, since it cannot generate enough guard to stay alive.

Yea, I'm sure they'll release some xpac type thing, but there is a dearth of activity at the end. Would be nice to have some small rebuilding activities.

I was irked that Skyhold still isn't 100% repaired at the end. I got mad stacks, a huge army, and everyone from Denerim to the Western Wastes under my thumb, and my pad still has huge chunks missing. Also what's up with the bedroom? Most useless location ever. Developing my base of power is a big deal to me. Assassin's Creed has been doing that better than others in 3 and 4. I'd like games like this to follow that example. They made an effort here, but they could do more.

I'm not even halfway through the main quest, but I will say, they did a pretty good job considering it's bioware's first slightly "open world" rpg, the engine is leaps and bounds better than that ancient piece of crap they were using for the first game ... If DA2 had as much content/art assets as DA3, it would be my favorite title in the series. I mean it's pretty crazy to think that this is the same engine that powers FPS like Battlefield in a heavily scripted RPG like Dragon Age, but then again, FPS have been getting more and more scripted campaigns over time, I'm sure it was just a matter of getting bioware's conversation tree imporated. The game looks beautiful, the maps are huge and loading overall is pretty minimal, the camera is vastly improved over the first 2 games. I mean it basically is like the transition from Everquest to WoW in terms of loading/graphics. I do think the combat isn't quite as good as it was in DA2, the tactical system (at least for the ps4) is pretty much useless, but I'm willing to live with that. I can't imagine it was easy to create content using a decade old engine originally designed for neverwinter nights, which maybe explains why DA 1 was in development for like 7 years? And why DA2 felt so damned rushed? I don't know what kind of toolset they used for DA1/2, but I actually tried out the Neverwinter nights world editor... and it really was just like working in old quake world builder (ie: you had to design a 3d world in 2d), wasn't really easy to sculpt a landscape or anything like you see in most any modern "making of" video these days... working on DA2 must have been hell.

I built a new PC last weekend and needed a new game to try things out on, so I picked this up for $40. Enjoying it so far, but one thing sticks out so far. I tried both Windows 7 and 8.1 last weekend and the game performs so much better on 8.1. The difference is night and day.

Interesting to hear - is that a first case for that? I've never bothered comparing back and forth since 8.1 made 8 viable for me.

It ran smooth on 7 for me, going to try it on the 10 tech preview a little later.
